Also I recommend 'Regular'. NCT members are hugely influenced by hip hop, and they are some of the best rappers and dancers in the business.

NCT choreographies are one of the hardest. They are ALL such talented dancers that if each member was placed in different groups they would all be the main dancers for that group XD

So glad you finally reacted to NCT. NCT (aka Neo Culture Technology) is a 23 member group from SM Entertainment. They are known for experimental sounds,styling, concepts, genres, unusual instruments (including non instruments used for effect). NCT can always add new members to the main group, and they have several main subunits that is the primary way they perform. The subunits are:
NCT U = mix&match members to fit the concept of the performance or song, can be any or all of the NCT members, new members can be added at any time
NCT 127 = focus on Korean audience, usually their music is quite angry/noisy/gritty
WayV = focus on Chinese audience, often mature lyrics, similar to 127
NCT Dream - used to be the teen members but they all all getting older now, they are a bit more happy and bright but still experimental
They also break down each main subunit further into smaller subunits and solo projects for some videos. There is also SuperM, which is a super group pulling members from NCT as well as other acts from the same label.

Seventh Sense is regarded as one of the hardest choreographies in kpop, primarily due to it's unique beat and vague concept. It's the song that everyone dreads at variety shows.
For some other great experimental tracks definitely recommend Make a Wish (Birthday Song), Sticker, and Cherry Bomb. And if you want what is considered one of the most unlistenable songs in kpop definitely recommend Mad Dog by NCT 127 (it's an acquired taste, oddly enough one of the only NCT songs my partner likes and he loathes like every other one). And since you said you liked 90s beats, there's a whole song deadicated to 90s songs called 90s Love by NCT U. Also feel like you might really like Boss by NCT U. Regular by NCT 127 is also fantastic for its lyrics.
The comments about their fashion is killing me 😂😂😂. SM (the label behind NCT) is known for having some of the consistently ugliest clothing in kpop. NCT in their early days were particularly bad victims of terrible styling. The stylists very well could have intentionally fucked with all of them.

By experimental, we mean that their songs are pretty out there/ahead of their time. People usually either love them or hate them, there's no inbetween haha

NCT and Stray Kids are my 2 favorite artists right now, so I'm glad he's discovered both of them. I really hope he'll react to songs like Misfit, Regular (Eng Ver.), 90's Love, Bring the Noize, Yestoday, Whiplash and New Axis. I think NCT and Stray Kids are 2 of the best kpop groups at hip-hop music and "noise" music so hopefully he enjoys both groups.

This is the most quirky song I ever heard in every boyband debut and my oh my they really took the risk, it makes them stand out so much compare to flower boy/disco club genre during that time. They're really opened my eyes on NCT.

NCT is a 23 member group. Taeyong (the guy with the pictures of the people on his suspenders) is the leader of the group as a whole. NCT U is basically a mix of all the members. It could be any given member in any song at any time. However the 23 members (NCT U ) is split up into sub units. NCT 127 - NCT DREAM - & WayV (the chinese sub unit). They are all fixed units so the same members in each respective unit. It seems a bit confusing at first but once you start getting to know the units one by one it isn't so bad!

Hey Teddy, just wanted to help you a bit about what NCT is about! So NCT is kind of like an umbrella term used for a boy group that debuted under SM Entertainment in 2016 which currently has 23 members(started with 18 members). It has 3 main sub-units NCT 127, NCT Dream and WavyV which all have their own unique sounds and concepts. NCT U is like a rotational unit of NCT where different members of each of the above 3 units are picked out depending on the vibe of the song and which member suits that vibe the best, so each time an NCT U song comes out the members may or may not change depending on which member among the 23 suits that song the best. There are albums with all members of the whole 3 units as well (Resonance and Universe albums). NCT is also termed as a limitless concept where new members can keep getting added anytime SM wants..., there's 3 new members to join by 2023 in fact who may be a part of another new unit most probably NCT 140(unconfirmed). Rn, the 3 units are fixed with only members in NCT U being changed for every comeback!
NCT got 18 members during empathy when Jungwoo and Lucas joined, so for the first two years there were 16, but Kun did not have almost any involvement but he was there from 2016. Albums with all units are Empathy, Resonance and Universe. WayV just did not exist in 2018.

NCT is definitely one of my favorite kpop groups, so I'm excited to see you get into them! NCT is one big group (currently 20+ members) but they're split up into different sub units. It might seem overwhelming at first, but once you learn about them over time you'll realize it's not that complicated.

I’m a stay and NCT is my second favorite k-boy group ! Nct has never participated in kingdom so it’s not them that you’ve seen :) also as NCT U is a rotating unit those members you’re seeing right now are all dispatched in other units :) their concept is really interesting and their songs are sooo good, if SKZ are known for their noisy music, NCT are the founding fathers of noise music in kpop ahahahzh, if you’re interested in checking more nct I’d recommend : regular (English version), new axis, ok!, 90s love, make a wish, nectar, coNEXTion and then if you want really experimental « resonance » by the full 23 members AHAHAHAH, nct have some of the clearest and most interesting voices in all the kpop groups, their only default (?) is maybe that they have close to no hand into making the music they perform :)

As a fellow stay I am glad that you are branching out to different groups. Stray kids is my ult group but there are a lot of others that I am fond of as well. I grew up loving rap as well. The next song I would check out would be glitch mode by nct dream or jikjin by the group treasure. P.s. stray kids are amazing in concert as well and have crazy energy the whole 3 hour show

NCT are great I think you'll enjoy delving into them. Their choreo's are always fire, they have some incredible dancers. As they are many they have a strong mix of dancers, rappers and singers but I don't want to overload you with info here. I recommend listening to some more songs first. NCT's music is the best!
NCT has a lot of different styles of music and different groups. This is one of my favorite songs from them. NCT U also has Make a wish And BOSS that i like. I also really like the song Regular. It has a English, Korean and Chinese version and I prefer the Chinese version by Wayv while the other versions are by NCT 127.

So happy you started their jpurney by their FIRST song! NCT along SKZ is one of the most unique groups in the whole k-pop industry, lots of people have already commented that they are experimental as fuck and their whole concept is to be infinite. Each of the units is DIFFERENT, and even though they all together are all one amazing thing, you will love to dive deep into them.

Experimental in the way that SM producers are masters of... using sounds that normally are not (if ever) used in music, having huge swings in tempo and/or genre but transitioned in such away that it somehow works, subverting your expectations as to how the instrumental will be structured in general, combining hard heavy beats with absolutely soaring vocals that are some of the best in the industry and always trying something new... no two title tracks will be alike. And I'm not just referring to NCT... SM has been dabbling in experimentation with all their groups from time to time since they started, but with NCT (particularly 127) they really went ham and it's what they're mainly known for.

Hi! Thank you so much for reacting to NCT! I see you have good taste 😉 anyway, NCT is a 23-member (so far) boy group from SM Entertainment. Their concept is being a group with unlimited members who can do unlimited genres. They don't have a fixed sound but their music is often labeled as noise music. However NCT thrived and stood up for who they are and now they are one of the best groups and I love them for opening my mind to these type of music. Thanks to them, I began to appreciate different instrumentation and song structures. You should listen to some of their title tracks like Simon Says, Baby Don't Stop, Boss, Cherry Bomb, Hot Sauce, Limitless, Kick It, Superhuman, etc. Their songs are weirdly goOod. Enjoy! 😊

There are multiple sub groups within NCT. There is NCT 127, NCT U, NCT Dream, and Wayv. They are my favorite group. My favorite unit is NCT 127. But the whole group is insanely talented. This song is probably the most impressive debut song I've ever seen.

NCT127 is Korean with 9 permanent members, *1 member moved over to WayV which had 7 members, they are the Chinese NCT unit,
NCT Dream is a set group of 5 full group of 7 with 2 rotating members that also perform in NCT127.
NCTU is currently 23 members which encompass all unit members including 2 who will most likely become NCT Japan.
NCTU projects pull members from the other groups and can have any number of participants on the project.
NCT127 is R and B based but their title tracks are often “experimental”.
NCT Dream is Pop but are moving towards other genres.
WayV is Pop, experimental and Club music.
NCTU units cover all genres of music but most are Dance and Pop
In NCT-U's"The 7th Sense," what you are seeing, as part of NCT's dream concept, is supposed to be the use of the 7th sense. Humans have 5 physical senses -- sight, touch, hearing, taste and smell. The 6th sense would be, the ability to perceive or sense something that isn't there, like, for example, in the movie "The Sixth Sense" where the boy could sense ghosts. So in this MV SM Entertainment used the "7th sense" to describe where NCT's dream state comes from. The 7th sense transcends the physical world and it deals with the dream realm. If you look up the English translation of the lyrics, you will see how they are all talking about dreaming, so each of the scenes within the MV is a different part of the dream or each of their individual dreams. (It's really worth looking up the lyrics to help understand NCT's concept and this song better.)
"The 7th Sense" came out April 4, 2016, and it is NCT-U's debut. As you saw, in this song and MV, there are 5 members who debuted as the first installment of NCT-U -- Taeyong, Mark, Ten, Jaehyun and Doyoung. This was a really important MV because it was the public's first introduction to NCT and it was NCT's first debut out of all of their sub-units.
Ten is the one in red in the room with the plants; he is NCT's Thai member and he is also a member of WayV, NCT's Chinese sub-unit. Mark is the rapper in the pink tiled room and he is Korean-Canadian; and Taeyong is the blond who is the leader of all of NCT, so he looks after all 22+ members -- Can you imagine having that job? And Jaehyun -- the one you see with the blue and green lights highlighting him -- and Doyoung -- the one with the orange hair -- are two of NCT's main vocalists.
NCT-U is the group that can have any number of NCT members in it depending on the concept for the song. So even though they debuted with 5 members, you will see that NCT-U is always changing up the members and the style and sound of their songs is constantly changing. NCT-U can have anywhere from all the members or only 1 or 2 members. The U stands for United, but I also like to think of it as Universal because of the way the group never has a fixed number of members.
As you may know, SM Entertainment is known for having some of the best dancers and singers in the industry. That is just a fact about the type of people SM selects to be a part of its company. You can't be an SM artist without having amazing singing and dance skills. So even the company's rappers are unbelievable singers and dancers. That is why the company has gained the reputation as the vocal powerhouse of the industry, who also happens to have some of the industry's top dancers. When it comes to SM, this is just the skill level we have come to expect. SM is an expert at finding and developing the best singers and dancers in Kpop.
If you like their dancing, then you really should check out their dance practice video for "The 7th Sense." NCT is known for their dancing, and they have a dance practice video for almost everything they do.
Here is some more information about how NCT works. I hope this might make it a little easier to understand. NCT is different than any other Kpop group in the industry.
NCT (which stands for Neo Culture Technology) currently has 23 members. And the group right now as a whole has 4 sub-units. The way NCT works is it's a group with an infinite number of members. (There are an unknown number of trainees who are still waiting to debut who could potentially become members of NCT.) As SM Entertainment's male trainees graduate from the training program and SM decides they are ready to debut, they become a member of NCT and they debut as part of one of NCT's sub-units. (They just added 2 new members -- Sungchan and Shotaro -- at the end of 2020, who are expected to eventually become members of a new sub-unit.* )
*NCT probably will be growing to 26 members soon. SM has been showcasing 3 new SMRookies -- Shohei, Eunseok and Seunchan -- lately and they just recently performed at the SMTown concert with Sunchan and Shotaro. So, by all indications, it looks more and more like NCT will be getting 3 new members and they probably will be part of the new unit. It is speculated that the next sub-unit will be a Japanese based unit because Shotaro and Shohei are Japanese.
NCT is a group that is constantly changing and rearranging its members and sound and we never know quite what to expect from them. With an infinite number of members and a concept that allows the members to rotate between sub-units, changing, adding and subtracting members depending on the concept and style of the song, you should never expect the same thing from them. You are better off always expecting something new, that somehow, also ends up sounding very much like NCT. LOL
NCT is a very international group. The members as a whole currently represent 9 different countries and they speak 8 different languages. For example, there are 10 native Korean members (Taeyong, Doyoung, Taeil, Haechan, Jaehyun, Jeno, Jaemin, Jisung, Jungwoo and SungChan), Mark is Korean-Canadian, Johnny is Korean-American, Yuta and Shotaro are Japanese, Ten is Thai, Lucas is Chinese-Thai from Hong Kong, YangYang is Taiwanese but he grew up in Germany, Hendery is Chinese from Macau (China) and 5 mainland Chinese members (WinWin, Kun, Xiaojun, Renjun and Chenle).
The second sub-unit is NCT-127 which began in July 2016. NCT-127 currently has 9 or 10 members. This group is more of a fixed unit so the members don't change quite as much. The 127 in this unit's name stands for the longitude coordinates of Seoul, South Korea, on a map of the world. So it's 127's job to represent Seoul -- the birthplace of Kpop -- around the world.
NCT-Dream is NCT's third sub-unit, which began in August 2016 and it is made up of the 7 youngest members of the group. All the Dream member's are currently between the ages of 20 and 23 years old (they were 14-17 when they debuted.) SM originally created NCT-Dream with the idea that if they had a trainee that they felt was ready to debut even though they were really young, they would start out as a member of NCT-Dream. They were the cute babies of the group who were learning the ropes and honing their skills because they are young, but they are also some of the most talented because they debuted way sooner than a lot of trainees. The way NCT-Dream originally was designed to work was that the members were part of the group until they turn 19 and become an adult. SM's original plan was that when the members turned 19 they were supposed to graduate from the group and they were no longer considered a member of NCT-Dream. Mark (the leader/captain of Dream) "graduated" from NCT-Dream in 2018, and Jeno, Haechan, Jaemin and RenJun we thought would be graduating in 2019 and form a new NCT sub-unit or be add to a sub-unit that already existed. (Which would have left NCT-Dream with only 2 members, with the idea that new trainees would probably debut sometime in 2020 and become members of NCT-Dream.) However, SM announced at the beginning of 2020 that they decided to make NCT-Dream a permanent group and suspend the whole "graduation" concept, including putting Mark back in the group.
The fourth sub-unit is WayV which debuted at the beginning of 2019. They are NCT's Chinese sub-unit who produces songs in Mandarin and promotes in China. There are currently 7 members in this sub-unit. All the members of WayV have Chinese heritage, but like Ten who is Thai, they aren't all native Chinese. The reason why WayV doesn't have NCT in their name like the other sub-units is because, at the time of their debut, the conflict between the Korean and Chinese government was at its peak and China wasn't allowing anyone associated directly with a Korean company to do business in its country. Because of this conflict SM had to find/create a Chinese company -- Label V -- that was willing to represent NCT's Chinese sub-unit, but would also allow SM to have control over the group's concept and activities. Most of the members of WayV had already debuted originally as members of NCT-U + 3 new members who debuted specifically with WayV because they were Chinese.

NCT is SM's attempt at taking over the music industry around the world. SM's goal is to eventually have NCT sub-units representing every major city in every country in the world. Some day they hope to, for example, take several Japanese members and create a Japanese sub-unit, or put together members from Thailand and create a Thai sub-unit, etc. It has always been SM's plan to have world domination. And to that point, right now NCT-127 is the group that SM is using to try and get their foothold in the U.S. music market with songs like "Regular" and "Highway to Heaven" and collaborations with American artists such as Jason Derulo, as well as a U.S. concert tour and promotional tours with the American media, etc.
So, this year is NCT's 6th anniversary, but debut dates are different for any number of members because it all depends on when they were added to the group. And many of the members of NCT actually became recognized by fans even before debut because they were part of SM's pre-debut group project called SMRookies, so SM did activities with several of the members before they debuted.
Taeyong (the leader of NCT and a member of NCT-U and NCT-127), Mark (a member of all of NCT's first 3 sub-units -- NCT-U, NCT-127 and NCT-Dream) and Ten and Lucas (members of NCT-U and WayV) are also members of the very first Kpop supergroup, SuperM, which is an SM group consisting of members from EXO, SHINee, NCT and WayV.

NCT U is a rotational group's, all NCT's member are part of this unit. The member change based of who suits the song sound and concept. This unit debuted on April 9, 2016. This sub unit is the first unit that debuted
NCT 127 is sub unit that based in Korea. The 127 stand for Seoul longitude. They currently have 9 active members. This unit debuted on July 7, 2016.
NCT Dream is NCT sub unit that supposed to be teenager group's. When the member turned to 20 years old (Korean age) they tend to graduate from the group and join other unit. But now the concept is no longer like that. The unit have 7 member. Their concept more of cute and youth concept. This unit debuted on August 24, 2016.
WayV is NCT's China Sub unit. They are under Label V (China entertainment under SM Entertainment) They have 7 member. This unit debuted on January 17, 2019.

there are all members in a large *NCT* group (male group consisting of an "unlimited" number of members (which will increase), new members will debut in separate subgroups within the group).
From time to time, new members appear in it, so it can be said that every year new NCT divisions appear ( *NCT 2018* , *NCT 2021* , *NCT 2022* , *NCT 2023* ...).
There is also a group of the youngest members *NCT Dream* . Group with the concept of youth and growing up.
A group of exclusively Chinese-speaking participants - *WAYV* (the name is different due to political problems with China).
*NCT 127* (the longitude coordinate of the city of Seoul) is a group that "has set itself the goal of spreading their music from Seoul around the world" (in my opinion, this does not mean anything special, the group does not have a definite scheme in choosing participants, as far as I know)
And there is *NCT U* (united) - rotational one (members change depending on the song's concept), so you can say that if it's NCT, but the members don't match the lineup of other groups, then it's NCT U.
Oh, don't forget the newest subunit *NCT DOJAEJUNG* (debut in 2023), which consists of DOyoung, JAEhyun, and JUNGwoo (THE vocalists).
Some of the members also have solo songs and albums, collaborative songs with other artists, are also members of the *SuperM* group (SMEntertainment's "top artist" group).
As you can see they have tons of great interesting content (and the music is a small part of it just so you know)
The hardest part is getting to know all the members - it's easier to look at the fan guides and see these crackheads in their natural environment so you can better identify and learn them from the memes. But knowing all the members isn't really necessary in order to listen to and react to their music and MVs, so don't be discouraged :^)

If you like experimental and different, NCT 127 - Sticker would be a good one to give a try. It's SO different, people either really love it or hate it. I'm obsessed with it, the instrumentals on it are just so insane but that's what makes it unique

By experimental group we mean that you'll hear songs and formulas that are unusual? Idk how to say that. With NCT it's either you like it or not. There is no in between. I think you'll discover members that you'll love to know about. It's a big group but since you are here for the music I don't think it will stop you. I might be wrong but I really think you'll like them. The units are so unique and different from each other that you'll find your taste! And the fans are pretty chill and funny af. Like the Neo boys (NCT members) we are weird but very nice!
i agree. the experimental part of nct for me is the structure and the chord progession/harmonies... they always got this hard ass beat but somehow the topline is not the flow that i imagined so that's cool and interesting to me. most experimental unit would be nct 127 with sticker, simon says, and cherry bomb. fan favorites would be the songs with more melodic chorus such as superhuman, limitless and favorite. but if you want to just have a taste of 127 i'd say go for kick it cause it's kind of their flagship song
obviously, all of songs in their discography are experimental, choose any clip from any unit, it will be something different
nct 127/nct dream/nct u/wayv each unit has oun color in songs, so i recommend all of them for diversity in playlist😌

Now i reeeaallly want you to check cherry bomb by nct 127 out! They have some crazy choreography in there and the song is so experimental! They incorporated nursery rhymes into the song and honest to god it came out sooo well! One of my favorite tracks by them
NCT being experimental in many ways in their songs. The structure, how they mixed the part of the song into one piece that new fans find it wierd at first and crazy over it in the end, how they produce it. And you just can't denied how their vocal, rap and dancing does a top tier in the industry.
I think, If you like 7th sense, you'll love NCT for sure 😁
