Thank you for this incredible channel! My Uncle kept his boat in Paw Paw Lake,MI teaching me boating as a little girl with safety foremost. You place so much work & beauty into these videos! They make me so happy and relaxed. Plus I have learned a lot. Also love how you explain various boating methods etc. Thank you for being awesome and keeping it real.
I liked your comment about asking for help when docking. Some people take it as a challenge or mental competition to see if they can get the perfect docking without assistance for some weird reason. If help gets you docked quickly and safely, that should be the key.
So glad i randomly found your channel i have a lifelong history with all the great lakes , and zero with boating... In the sense of open water keeled craft. I can't wait to see your video catalog 👍
I am glad you find my videos interesting! I do have a decent stock pile of footage of saved up. so I hope there will be plenty until I can get back out on the water this summer! Its mostly on lake superior and lake Michigan with a bit of lake Huron.
I will do a video on it at some point. but it will be sometime after this trip series. I don't currently have easy access to it in the winter. apart from a few minor things its how it came from the factory so the ranger tug website can give you a really good idea of the boat until i can make a video on it.
I’m glad you enjoyed our area I live about 20 miles north of where you docked for the night in Hancock. Definitely try to get to Isle Royale if you get a chance next time you are up in Superior.
Just wanted to add a thank you for putting in the effort to put together this consistent video series as I know it’s a lot of work… and a hello from Florida where we have a hopeful future of exploring the Great Lakes
It is defiantly more time consuming then I originally thought it would be, but I am having fun learning to edit. There is defiantly a lot to see on the lakes, but I am envious that you can boat year round in Florida.
Enjoyed the video. Right before you entered Houghton, the large buildings on your left are Michigan Technological University, the Great Lakes Research Center building is a part of campus (and a fairly recent addition) and is the building right down on the water. Most of the other buildings are specific to the various STEM fields taught at MTU.
The imbedded maps showing your progress was much appreciated. I'm curious if you find much difference in performance when your fuel tank is quit low vs. full. The Cutwater 24 I'm getting has an even bigger tank (116 gals) and I'm pondering whether hefting all that fuel around might have a significant penalty re: getting up on plane and/or fuel burn. Thoughts?
I am glad you liked the maps! it took me sever hours to learn how to get the line to move so it was time well spent! As for fuel my ranger has a 150 gal fuel tank and I usually calculate range only using 80% of the total so I have a safety margin. I don t really notice a difference in time to get on plane as its not really something that matters much in long range cruising as once your up on plane you don't slow down all that often. I do see a increase in MPG as my tank drains but it generally averages out over the day. 100 gal of gas is 600 lbs and any weight has an effect of MPG. your gear and supplies as well as the number of people you have on the boat will also have a small effect as well as wind and wave conditions. another thing to be aware of is that usualy salt water will get you better MPG because its more buoyant then fresh.
@@MillennialAfloat Wow, 150 gals?! R23's being built today come with a 80 gal tank. I believe I saw you briefly including a drone shot of your boat and it looked like you have the factory dinghy storage rack above an outboard. IOW - large under cockpit storage. Still, almost double the stock fuel capacity is a surprise to me.

I have heard great things about isle royal and unfortunately the timing did not work out on this trip. it is on my bucket list!

Thank you for letting me know. I thought it was a good looking building when I passed it!
Looks like a great trip. Just a FYI its pronounced KEE-win-naw, not KEE-naw.
Thank you! I did not know that. I will do my best to correct it for upcoming videos.

Keweenaw is pronounced "Key-Wee-Naw". Isle Royale is pronounce "Isle Royal".
Thank you for letting me know! someone mentioned it to me already so I think I have the pronunciation correct in the next one
