Did you see the secret 8th Hiking essential?(Its in the video description!) 👀🥳 I hope you found this video helpful, I've just realised it acts as a Christmas gifts list for any Outdoorsie/hiking interested people too! Let me know what your hiking essentials are down bellow, what won't you leave home without? 😁 Remember: LINKS TO EVERYTHING I MENTIONED ARE IN THE VIDEOS DESCRIPTION!
I think i am ready to upgrade our 'flask of luke warm coffee' to stove so we can make fresh hot drinks while out hiking. ive looked at those cheaper options from Amazon but shyed away, but great to see you using it and recommending it. I will take a punt for the kit you have because it will be useful addition when we are camping and will potentially fill the gap til i can justify a jetboil! great channel, great advice!
Whenever myself and my son Thomas are doing walks in the area (same area you are from) if we see a red jacket we both say ‘I wander if that’s David?’ Will probably cross paths one day, great video, Andrew (Watford)
Hahaha thats so sweet! Be sure to say hello if you do ever see me razzing around! I'll probably be quite surprised - but excited to meet any subscribers! 😁
Great Channel! I like seeing other hiking enthusiasts. I'd recommend getting a Garmin inreach or mini. Especially if you are solo hiking and going to areas with no coverage. It's pricey and the subscription also hurts the pocket but at least it will put your mind at ease for emergency situations.
Random question about socks/hiking shoes. Some people say two pairs of socks with one pair being toe socks to reduce blisters. What's your thoughts on this? Other one is hiking shoe size. I'm just about to start hiking and one channel says that you should get a size larger than usual as your feet swell. Like I said, I'm new here so don't shoot me down, just want to get it right first time rather than pay out twice for shoes.
Hey Chris!! I’ve also heard that getting a bigger shoe is standard practise for some hikers, but I personally don’t do this. To avoid blisters I wear a thin sock liner, a thick merino wool hiking sock. And then if I’m doing any serious mileage (more then 30 miles) I will wrap the areas of my feet that are particularly prone to blister - in medical tape. If you look in the videos description you’ll see links to all of the products I’ve referenced. Some people love boots and some people love trail running shoes. When the weathers good I tend to go with my blue new balance trail running shoes but now that we’re in winter I’ll be hiking in my boots! I love my shoe set up, I never get any blisters any more. You’ll find that a people have A LOT to say about not wearing boots, there’s a lot of ‘I used to hike’ couch potatoe keyboard warriors who will try to convince you that if you don’t have proper ankle support then you will die😂 But the truth is you’ve just got to do what’s right for you and slowly build up your strength! Best of luck, hope this helped 👊
I always carry voltarol cream when going on a long hike. Had to use it the other day near the end of a 20 miles hike when my knees started to give up on me (I'm getting old!).
@@DavidPMcEntee Yeah i actually prefer to walk up hills and mountains rather than down! Walking down is worse as you put more force on your knees. I try to take smaller steps when walking down steep slopes/hills, as it puts less force on the knees that way.

Great advice, couple of tips I didn't know. Thanks 👍
Thanks Nigel! This is one of my under rated vids so it’s nice to see people check it out!

You were recommended by Adam Hoyt who I follow in New Hampshire bagging the 48s. Subbed and along for the ride.
Thanks man, Adams a legend 👊
@@DavidPMcEntee He certainly is. He does a really good job with his videos. Look forward to watching all yours.
what about Shoes? What shoes do you recommend that are weatherproof / mud, water, snow (wide feet)
I’ll make a video on this in the future!🥳
@@DavidPMcEntee thank you Shoes are my toughest purchase...

That’s a good idea mate! Might add that to my medical kit myself! Knee pain is the absolute worst, I always get it coming down mountains!!

1:42 Patagonia Sponosor? Is that a new dinosaur species? Haha 🤣
How does this always happen 😂😂😂
I'm pretty sure merino wool is from new zealand. That's as far from Europe as you can get 🤣
Nope, Spain! Read this - en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merino
