    In 1986 I bought a PT-92 because it was on sale at $180, it became my favorite pistol....at the time I owned 4 Colt .45 ACP Government Models and a shitload of other autos and revolvers.
    For 20 years I shot the shit out of that gun, and it NEVER...EVER...jammed , and it's out of the box accuracy was AMAZING. I used all manner of factory JHP and my own reloads in all bullet types.....the gun was stolen 5 years ago, and I have never gotten over it's loss.
    Taurus makes a good gun.

    Got this same gun. Got it with Pachmeyer grips, which are great if your hands are large enough to get around them. Had the mag release reversed because it is much more comfortable to release it with my right hand middle finger. My gunsmith said he has a Beretta 92 and he had not thought of this, but he was going to do the same to his gun. Safariland #7 holster fits this gun exactly. Love this gun. No failure to feed or eject. Very accurate.

    I love mine. Minimal recoil and muzzle flip, option of carrying cocked and locked or half-cocked with a long first trigger pull as a safety, accurate, reliable, and possibly the sexiest handgun in the world.

    • @totalnewb123

      @@eastbayarea864 yes you can. I believe only rim fire pistols and rifles like a 22 cannot be dry fired.

      @@totalnewb123 right on man! Thanks! And man this is a really nice firearm to have I noticed some differences though some models have like a pistol grip. And others I've seen on TH-cam come with a nice big case with also a cleaning rod but those videos are from Brazil so I wonder if in Brazil they come standard with a nice hard plastic case mine came in a cardboard box which is ok I guess but I wanted a case like they had

    Wow, I was expecting the comments to be trashing this gun. When ever I tell someone (especially the employees at the range) that I have this gun, they always say how terrible it is. Well five years later this gun is one of my favorites. It’s great looking and the trigger pull is exceptional. On top of that the price was unreal. I think I got it for $450 brand new.

    Great video and review, thanks. I have one that I got in 1991, it was my first gun and is still shooting perfectly today with probably about 2k rounds through it. I have heard some criticisms of Taurus lately but, the two I own have performed flawlessly to date. My PT92 doesn't have a rail though, must have been before they added them on. Mine is super accurate because of the 5 inch barrel, I am spoiled and notice the difference when I shoot a compact.

    It comes that way. It's because the slide is stainless and the frame is aluminum alloy. They mirror polish the frame and leave the slide a satin finish. I've seen a few videos on here where people have polished the slides on their PT92's to match the frame, and it looks amazing. You can get a very close match to the frame if you mirror polish the slide.

    I've had a blued (Blk. actually) PT-99 for over 20 yrs. (pre-decock) with a little over 2000 rds. put thru it; as u said I could've purchased a Beretta if I had chosen, but the Taurus to me felt better, & loved the location of the safety. Her name is "Lucille" & she has never once failed to go boom, with many different types of ammo, No issues what so ever! I carry mine in a Uncle Mikes shoulder rig with no problems @ all. I would recommend them highly. thanks for video

    Yes, big and heavy, however this is a real gun. I have owned mine for 25 years and has NEVER jammed. Of all the guns I own, this is my favorite. I am certain that I will be able to give this to my son and he'll think it's just as cool as when I first bought it. Nice aspects of this gun? The stainless steel is a VERY high quality and when you want to lube or service it? You need NO tools and the entire gun comes apart in 3 seconds by simply pushing a locking mechanism on the frame.

      PT92AR here, model looks identical to this in video except mines got the mother of pearl grips and gold screws and accents. Ive had it near 10 years (and I bought it USED), its my only semi auto handgun, and I run up to all 7 mags thru it back to back at the range. Its never jammed nor had any malfunction of any kind to date, and when cleaning parts all that stainless steel looks brand new STILL. No swirls nor even faint scratches in the barrel either. I absolutely love this gun, and it IS my dependable, reliable workhorse.

    I have 2 of these and they are bomb-proof. Never had any problems firing cheap ammo. Love the double action. The 92 has fixed sights and the 99 has adjustable ones.
    Only problem I ever had was trying some Shot-Shells. Those ones that are small shotgun shells for 9mm. They didn't have enough power to eject the empty case.

    THIS is how Beretta's 92 SHOULD have been designed. :) Safety on the frame. Beretta has the name and is a 500+ year old company. They do make great firearms. it's just their version of the 92...Should be changed.
    I wonder how Taurus was able to take Beretta's design and modify it. Then sell it as theirs. Naming it the "PT 92". This 92 is so handsome. Love the mirror finish.
    I wonder if you can get it in nickel. :)

    • @brucec43
      @brucec43 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If my info is correct, Taurus purchased the Beretta machines and kept the personnel in place back in the 90's after they finished a run for the Brazillian military. I assume the Brazillians wanted a version with the frame mounted safety/decocker and Beretta did it for them. So there's not much reason they couldn't sell this version as a Beretta. No idea why they stick with the slide mounted safety.

    I just bought a handful of stainless magazines at a gun show for mine. Two are 15 round with the Taurus logo on the side. 1 is a Ramline and I wouldn't recommend it, although I don't know how it works yet. It has a strange tape spring. The 4th is a 30 rounder like the one you showed all are stainless.

    do these PT92 take the beretta 92fs mags? seeing how u can get those beretta mags for under 10$, i hear with a little grinding they can be made to work? but how reliable do they feed ?

    Please be careful with the safety decocker, I have a PT92AF I bought new back in 1994, cleaning one day and checking out mechanics of how things work, I noticed the safety decocker fired all the way down to the firing pin. I tested this issue while out at the range and it sure enough, fired a round. obviously something internal has malfunctioned with mine that needs tending to, but everything else with it has worked perfectly. It is an awesome firing gun, very comfortable.

  • @GuitarLoveTV
    @GuitarLoveTV 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    There's no more 3 day wait here. I go in a gun shop and leave ten minutes later with my new gun. I couldn't imagine not being able to own a gun, like in Australia....or even having to wait to get a gun. Got PT92 gun question for you. Without the magazine loaded in the well, does your slide lock in place when pulled all the way back or do you have to manually push up on the slide lock lever to lock it into place?

    A very decent review of what many consider the Flagship of Taurus semi-auto pistols! Just one minor dig, if you're gonna call it an "In Depth Review", at least actually field strip the firearm. Even though your verbal only explanation was more coherent than many TH-camrs who demo the breakdown in a half assed manner. It is indeed a good home defense weapon, almost as good as my bedside Glock 22. Thanks for sharing! I love my PT92 AFS too!

    Just so you know, Taurus didn't change the safety to the frame. Both Beretta and Taurus had a frame mounted safety at the time this gun started manufacture. It was Beretta that went to the Slide mounted safety with the release of the 92S model. The factory that builds the Taurus, as you said, was a Beretta factory and do was all of the tooling It was a few years after Beretta sold that factory to Taurus that they began production of the 92S model.

    I bought one of these a couple years ago (pt99). It's been nothing short of excellent. Never a single malfunction. I know a guy who has a 92fs (which he praised like it was the second coming of Christ). That was part of the reason why I went with the Taurus. I liked the Beretta, but not the $600 price. Not only does the Beretta have a plastic guide rod, the trigger seemed to be made of plastic as well. He told me that it was metal, coated in plastic. Can anyone confirm this?

  • @earthdog1961
    @earthdog1961 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Without going thru the 233 previous comments. . . how does it shoot? I had a Beretta 92F and it couldn't hit a watermelon at 10 yards! It was like the "cone of impact" was 3 feet wide! I sold it for a loss, and bought a Glock 17 and was ever so happy since. If Taurus has tightened the 92 version up a bit I'm still interested. I have a thing for full metal framed guns as the weight takes up a lot of the recoil, and increases accuracy. Any pistol that can keep a group of 2 inches "free hand" at 10 yards is a friend of mine! (:-|)

    If you are still answering questions...if you are....do you think the quality control of these has gone down over the years or is it the same in your opinion as buying one ten years ago verses 2019? Does your 92 eject the rounds with enough force and distance. Also does your slide hold open everytime last round is fired?

      I sold the gun probably 3 years ago, but it always functioned fine. I can't say if the newer ones are any better or any worse.

    No, there are minor variances that do not allow them to be interchanged.

    I prefer to carry decocked with safety off. I would rather have a long trigger pull to worry about on the first shot than fiddling to flip a safety off in a critical, adrenaline pumped situation but yes, I would be confident in the gun, carrying in that manner. The gun has a drop safety.
