At its core, Hinduism is essentially an ancient indigenous culture. “Sanatana Dharma” is a way to align with the rhythms of nature-the cycles of the Sun (Surya), Moon (Chandra), and Earth (Prithvi).
That’s why we often find many shared concepts and rituals with other indigenous cultures around the world. It is these common threads that tie us all together, both in its essence and in the fight for preservation.
Here is the next feature in our special “Diverse Voices in the Hindu Fold” series - for Black History Month. We at CoHNA are honored to share the journey of Ellie Fokane from Johannesburg, South Africa.
Here, she reflects on how her experience with Hinduism blended with her upbringing in Indigenous African Spirituality. Her experiences in Hinduism offered a tangible solution during a phase of intense inner turmoil.
