It feels sloppy to listen to. Like he realized after recording everything that he said "no more cursing" and told the editors to just go back and mute it. An okay message in concept that was executed with zero integrity. Every time there was a mute, it pulled me out of the song, which is too bad.

@@S0LACE222 But why have the mute at all? If you don't want swearing in your music, don't record it anyway just to mute it later. Why would I (or anyone, really) prefer to listen to a song that has the lyrics drop out every time someone swears? Like saying you prefer the radio edit lmao. If it's the same song with a wider vocabulary then there's no need for mutes in the first place and the song is better for it.
Plus, imagine listening to a full album and every song has great flow, solid lyrics, good instrumental, backing, yada yada. But every time there's a mute, it breaks suspension of disbelief. It makes it feel like a product first, music second.

The reason that every song after Junya feels more on topic/ethereal like you were saying is because it starts to enter that shift in the narrative. The album listening parties essentially laid out the concept.
Listening party #1: Kanye is wearing all red, wandering alone through a barren stage the size of a football field. The songs are unfinished with terrible sound quality (probably not intentionally) but it represents his depiction of Hell within the Divine Comedy. Kanye is in Hell for his sins, his guilt, etc. The last song played at this event was "Jail", in which he sings about his priors (sins, trauma).
After the listening party, Kanye posts a pic of his room at MBS which looks exactly like a Jail cell.
Listening party #2: Kanye has laid out the contents of his "jail cell" on stage and took away the walls for the whole world to see. He pantomimes and goes through the motions of the creative process as the album, which is sounding much more finished, plays around him. This event is his depiction of Purgatory, or his jail. The last song played at this one is "No Child Left Behind" as Kanye ascends to the ceiling of MBS, representing his entry to heaven and exit from Purgatory.
Listening party #3: This show starts with Jail as the first song, symbolizing that it picks up after he just left Purgatory. The setting is a replica of his childhood home, or his own personal Heaven (thus completing the settings of the Divine Comedy: Hell, Purgatory, and Heaven). This show ends with "Come To Life", in which Kanye sings that he's finally free - a sharp juxtaposition from "Jail", insinuating that he's gained closure and has left his sins and trauma behind in the ashes of the fire he burned in.
The released album does the same in a similar fashion. It starts off with Jail, and the immediately following songs (God breathed, Off the grid, Praise God, etc) all have darker, edgier, muddied production with less mention of religion than the second half - perhaps representing his life before turning to God. The production gets less darker as we move on, with the first truly religious song 24 appearing as well. At exactly midway through the album, the halfway point of track 14 (which is the 13th song out of 26 - Donda chant not included), the beat drops on "Heaven and Hell" and the choir comes into an otherwise empty production, possibly representing the change in Kanye's life before/after finding God. Empty and desolate vs full of sound and surrounded by warmth. After that song, the album is more gospel focused (Jesus Lord, New Again, Lord I need you, etc), and reaches a climax with "Come To Life". Might be worth mentioning that Heaven and Hell also uses ascending (Heaven) and descending (Hell) notes as well.
Overall, the album is essentially an auditory journey of following Kanye in his path to his religious awakening. Sure there are things I can't explain (Gabgolab sample, tell the vision, collabing with shitty people) but this is just my perspective on it.

@J J You might think that but Kanye has shown multiple times that he can make art as layered as this. MBDTF, Yeezus, and TLOP all had hidden stories in them. There is a 0 percent chance that all of this was just random with no meaning behind it if we've seen him do it before.

On the heartbeat thing because I see confusion:
The "dying heartbeat" aspect is a slight stretch, however, sounding like a heartbeat in general does have validity.
This is due to the iambic pentameter esc quality of it: Donda being pronouncd DON-duh, resembling a DUN-dun effect, which is often used in Shakespeare's work.
(It obviously doesn't have the 10 syllable ABAB, CDCD, aspect of it.)

Am I supposed to count the beats to know?
My issue with that concept was that it was given raw, with no context. Its registers as a lady just saying a name to a weird cadence for awkwardly long. It needed SOMETHING around it to make that sound interesting and drive home its purpose. Its asking me to read in, but it doesnt give you any intrigue to really make you wanna. Its the wrong kind of "What was that about?"

I honestly feel Kanye's mental health and drama has negatively affected his music. After MBDTF he did an incredible album but it was already not ahead anymore. It was playing catch up with what others already innovated. After that, it felt like a mess. He managed to do some great albums in 2018 and then it went off the rails again.
Nobody who's been old enough to be around since he started, can honestly say his music hasn't declined. I still enjoy a lot of it and hold out hope for an insane classic again, one day, but so far since 2010-13 we haven't had one. Great albums in 2018. Up there. But not quite. And again, it simply declined again.
Sloppy songs, albums not connecting like they used to, styles all over the place, it's like he doesn't care anymore and just is letting his mental health deteriorate. I'm sad to see. I really do hope he finds peace. True peace from within and not the outside world.

I disagree. His music would've gotten really plane and boring if he stayed in the same mental state that he was when he made College dropout or Graduation, as great as those albums were. It's that wide spectrum of emotions and characteristics (or insanity symptoms if that's what you wanna call it) that make albums like MBDTF, Kids see ghosts, TLOP, Ye or Donda so great, at least to me.
