I think Lafleur meant it exactly as it came across. Saying it was a joke or taken out of context is just trying to save face. The thing is, he wasn't wrong... didn't we all hold our breath when Carlson would go out? I know everyone points to the fact that he's a rookie but it is possible to be a good rookie. Just because you're new to the game doesn't mean you get a pass for being inconsistent.

Despite the Packers shooting themselves in the foot with multiple game changing mistakes in the second half in their 24-21 divisional round loss to the 49ers, Matt LaFleur is still a coach whose loyalty relies on Jordan Love, a young man who keeps improving and developing his mental toughness of becoming Green Bay’s new franchise quarterback! This team really showed great skill as a playoff contender and proved that they test themselves as a team with massive talent despite being a #7 seed! Everything for this franchise is about to void out the old Aaron Rodgers era and bring in the brand new Jordan Love era with all kinds of momentum this young team produced all season long no matter the ups and downs!

They wanted to move on from Crosby because he cant kick long like the younger guys do now. I remember watching him kick in a Giants game this season long range and he drilled it down the middle of the uprights but it was short by a few yards. I know for a fact Crosby nails that missed kick and they dont go for a 4th down attempt in FG range when you know Crosby is there to kick for you.
Green Bay tried to go with the new philosphy of getting kickers that can hit 60+ yards and it bit them in the ass bad this year.

I've been saying the same thing. Tom Brady has a few less rings if he doesn't have a reliable Adam Vinatieri and people are harping on Jordan Love's interception, while it was a mistake, the harsh reality is that I'm not sure it matters how many yards he picks up unless he's getting a touchdown because Anders Carlson can miss it from anywhere on the field. Crosby had his ups and downs but more ups than downs, 400/492. Jordan Love and the Packers won't be making any true Super Bowl runs without a reliable kicker.

I wonder how many missed kicks are actually the kickers fault? If the snap isn't delivered to the holder properly, and I've heard that a good long snapper will spin the ball the same way every time so when the holder catches it the laces are in the same orientation he's used to so placing the ball for the kicker with them pointing in the right direction is easier. So the kicker needs the snap...and the hold to be right before he even tries the kick.
Most of the NFL kickers are like automatic off of a tee....so I tend to blame the kicking trio when one goes bad and when the team blames someone I hope they're pointing at the right person. Pat is right....don't let your kid grow up to be a kicker. :)

Everyone anticipated this to be a rebuilding year, which is an ideal time to work in a rookie kicker. No one expected them to be a SB contender. Even after 2 losses in December and a near loss against the Panthers most people wrote them off and finding a kicker wasn’t a high priority.

I never like to pick on the kicker, but if you’re not consistent enough to be relied upon for average kicks, you gotta go. If you miss an extra point nearly every game, you gotta go. Kicker is too important of a position to wait around to see if a guy will get better or not. He had his chance, a full year to prove if he could do the job or not. And unfortunately, there’s just not enough evidence there to make the case that he should still have a job kicking for Green Bay.

    @andrewkalwitz 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

So, I think I heard they signed a kicker to compete with carlson. I didn't appreciate the miss by Carlson cuz Mason Crosby would almost definitely hit any kick you really need. However, I don't mind letting Carlson sit with his error all off-season before winning his job back. There is no reason this isn't exactly what a kicker needs to become great.
In theory, I might prefer putting a kicker out there who missed, if only they have the mentality that they want another kick right away. This was a narrow miss. He might be extra reliable if you put him put there after a miss(in a theory), because he gets serious. I'm sure it happens like that sometimes.
Kicker is the most unique position in sports. You can also win the big game because you got a guy who won't miss from 60 yards, especially when the games are so close. I wonder what the most game-winners by a kicker are in a fulll season. If a kicker could ever win more than 12 games from 50 yards out, that is an mvp candidate.
Justin tucker might attest to any kicking error that might have scarred him and heightened his focus. Maybe Carlson can become a great kicker precisely because all this noise he's been getting. I hope he is itching to kick another field goal and that the competition raises his confidence like "Sea Biscuit."

How can they not find a new kicker for an entire season? Very early in the season everyone knew packers needed a new kicker WTFFFFF. THEY waited til it was all on the line to save a little scratch this year.

    Let us be honest.
Kicking for a potentially game winning kick is the hardest thing in the NFL.
You are with no doubt the reason the team will win or lose.

I need the Chiefs and Ravens defenses to put on a master class. Make it a Butker vs Tucker game. Trading back and forth 40-50 yarders. end the game 21-18/18-21.
    ABSOLUTE CINEMA

Has anyone actually looked back the "legendary" Mason Crosby's stats? His 2012 numbers? 63% FGs.... His first four years, he didn't even break 80% FGs. 2017 and 2018? Once the Extra Points were moved back to the 15 yard line, he was no longer perfect from XP. He missed 4 in one season... When he was a well seasoned vet. ....FFS! People need to relax. Carlson will be fine...

I don’t care what anyone says or how good Jordan Love was this year. If we draft one of the available WRs or trade up for a Justin Jefferson as a compliment to Devante instead of trading up and drafting Love, we have at least 1 Super Bowl. I’m happy about our future but we had a Super Bowl winning team and blew it.
