I really enjoyed the system and setting of this world, and I'm hoping the final chapters tie up loose ends in a satisfying way instead of leaving me frustrated and bored. Moving forward, it's time for people to lock in and not be stupid. it's time for characters to be interesting and not annoying. It's time for villains to get their just desserts. It's time for miscommunications and misunderstandings to be cleared up. It's time for Jay to get more powerful and advance in his class. It's time for the innocents to have rewards and respite from their suffering. This will tell me if I should read book 2 or go back and re-read Ajax's Ascension again lmfao As for these past chapters themselves. I think I'm misunderstanding some things; have they really been sending Lannister, the person who controls the access to and from the mirror reality, to go on search and rescue missions? That's dangerous for no reason. The most stupid thing I can think of actually. I still have no idea why they gave Jay an anti-teleport stone when they're about to teleport him or why Sullivan gave him the mana blanket other than random maguffin reasons. None of it makes sense in sequence unless it's revealed that Kel is a time traveler, possibly Jay's mother, and she and Jay's father have been setting things up specifically for just the right future to save the world from bad things and this is the one specific chain of events that can do it. I can't tell if things are about to get good or really bad as these plot threads are about to converge into each other. I really hope it's satisfying. If Matheson isn't turned into some silent death knight who maintains his sentient desire for power, for Jay to control, I don't know what the point of him even was. His existence is annoying. Norgrim seems like one of the dumbest people to allow the students to have the dynamics they do. He is a man of half-measures which consistently makes situations worse instead of better. He's like a mentally-disabled Dumbledore. Dumberdore. All the characters are dumb to be fair. It's been a sticking point in this web novel. if you're a likable character who appears in more than one scene, your fate is to be off-screened. If you're unlikable, you get plenty of screen-time.
I can clear up why they gave him an anti teleport crystal, it's because they set up teleportation traps in order to slow down any mage hunters or adventurers, wondering too close to the portal. As for the blanket, its anti magic property could probably be used to mask Jay's necromagic. As for the lannister one I can only guess that he usually doesn't go to the rescue missions, but him and one of the best agents to find and rescue variants went to recruit Jay because his power can turn the tide of their fight if they can help him grow. Im confused about his skills myself, like his ability to reshape bones levels up without skill points being used on it, but his tooth shot, raise undead, and undead command (aka levels) cant level up without them? Also the raise undead skill when it evolved allowed him to summon 2 new undead and skip the creature bones. But when he ranked it up again, it only increased his number by 1.
ugh... not more side character back stories. I hate that part of things. If it has no real impact on the story then why the time wasting space filling story extender? 🤨
