Congratulations man! With the jetlag and your sickness midway through it's a huge accomplishment that you managed to finish the race - you really beat the odds!
Sometimes epic is overused in cycling videos, but in this case Clint, it is definitely appropriate! Great job and such great scenery and iconic landscapes! Maybe some day you can go back and do it without the jet lag and enjoy it a little more! Wonderful video!
Clint just beautiful... so glad you were taking pictures of the ambulances from the outside and not the inside looking up. I think you owe it to yourself to go back ride it again and take us with you
Absolutely incredible Clint. Really really enjoyed the video. I am glad you made it as detailed as possible and the commentary really conveyed everything. it felt like I was there with you. And people just don't understand how hard it is to be on a saddle for 9 hours. A true accomplishment despite your jet lag. BRAVO.
You convinced me. I have just registered for the marmotte alps 2019! I will arrive on the Thursday before the event. I hope I will not be affected by the jet lag (I live in Montreal). I hope to do it in 8h. Thanks Clint!
Although it sounds like you had a very hard day out there Clint it's still an amazing experience that I'm picking you will always remember and look back on fondly. Congrats on completing the event and thanks for sharing it with us.
You've captured the experience of riding La Marmotte perfectly. I can only concur with everything you say. Sadly I had to abandon before the second hairpin on Alpe D'Huez and gutted comes nowhere close to how I felt. Congratulations on finishing.
Thank you a lot for bring in us along with you in thia ride Clint !! What a beautiful scenery you filmed while enjoying this awesome ride man ! Cheers from Corona Ca
I just love the attitude of most cyclists... "So jetlagged I nearly fell asleep on a 30km decent at 60kph, and later, vomited at the foot of one of the hardest climbs in Europe, which I then rode up.... 11/10, would totally do again!" Great video Clint. Glad you've had a great time in Europe :)
Clint... thank you for sharing... the scenery looked amazing! Even more, given the jet lag and getting sick, you hung in there til the end. Looking forward to the next video...
Congratulations! It sounds like an awesome race! I did a similar event in Norway in the mid 90s, probably not as steep but longer. Absolutely stunning landscape, and as you say, getting above the tree line is amazing.
Really, really impressive!!! Great job!! A really nice video with, as you say, beautiful landscape! But I can't help longing for you to get back to Florida to make some more bike service and mountainbike videos! 😉
"There is no way that is 3k" thats what i was telling myself all the time before reaching Galibier, very very very hard for me too. Once in a lifetime experience. 👌👌👍👍👍
The stunning village after the Telegraphe is called Valloire. It is quite the place ! Also puts a massive knot in my stomach to think that the Marmotte Pyrenees is apparently harder than this one, and I am hoping to do that this year. Am hoping that my base fitness will allow me to train for that in about 2-3 months of regular riding (once every 2 days or so I am thinking)
That's awesome! I wish you the best! Though the jet lag really hit me hard I was blown away by the scenery of this ride. I want to go back over and just tour on my own time schedule.
@@ClintGibbs what training, if any, did you do in addition to your four weekly rides to prepare for La Marmotte ? My main concern is that living in southern england, I will struggle to train for the long climbs, as southern england doesn't have many long climbs
You are a trooper. I would've quit and slept, and slept, and slept. Hats off to you! By the way, thanks for translating to kilometers for us in the "rest of the world". You gotta do it next year and arrive a week before. Jet lag will last maximum 4 days.
Well done Clint, looked like a tough ride even without the jetlag and illness. Thanks for explaining the ride, could have just put a bit of music to the video, but you took the time to edit and describe everything, FANTASTIC!! How did you cope with the language? Head back to France next year around the same time and try the MEGAVALANCHE! Brutal but in a different kind of way!
Thanks for sharing, Glint! It´s really much appreciated. Hopefully the nest time you´ll miss all the troubles and enjoy it even more. Allow me a questin, please, what did you use for recording this vid? I´m fascinated by all the clear and in focus views during the ride. Did record vids with my DSLR but those are really painful things.
Absolutely. My advice always for a longer event is to never redline it. Ride at your own pace and don't try to keep up with someone who flies past you. They're either much stronger than you or they're going to blow up.
Excellent video Clint. Those 20 minutes felt like 5 because of the great commentary and beautiful shots. How many hours a week did you train in the past like 4-6 month? I'd like to do this event maybe next year and I am wondering how much training is necessary to actually enjoy the event. Congrats on the finish, definitely epic!
I would ride about four days during the week around an hour and then put in my long ride on Saturday, which worked up to about a hundred miles for the last two or three rides.
Great job,, I thought you were a mountain bike only rider, did you bring you're own bike or ride one from there? Yes beautiful scenery but you sure need to be in shape for climbs like that, going to watch it again actually..
I got out of road biking several years ago but Look sent me a bike to train on and use for the event. I'll be testing some of their gravel bikes coming out next year.
Good job finishing it, I probably passed you at Glandon top, I started in the second start at 7:30, I did it in 7h26 official time. What camera are you using ? I find it really good quality
I get the jetlag thing completely, when.I visit Europe and come back to east to Australia I suffer awfully with it. Going over there it's just fine. You can.get.over the counter meds, melatonin I believe and that works well I've heard but.yet to try it. I find Europe very addictive.it's.great in the villages especially.
Clint, you're a real trooper. The video was excellent. Glad you stayed safe and had this opportunity. Thanks for taking us along.
Awesome video and great commentary. I hope one day I can cycle the alps. La Marmotte looks pretty cool.
This is excellent. I took part that day too. You've captured it really well. Thanks Clint.

amazing scenery! glad you captured it!
I've been watching your videos for about a year now and your 2018 Marmotte Alpes series was the best!!! Thank you for sharing.
Your best video ever! Thank you for taking my wife and I along with you...... great editing and congrats on finishing.... very impressive.

Congratulations! I am so proud of you (and jealous). The ride of a lifetime. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Congratulations. Nicely done. I'll probably never get to it but this ride is now a life goal.

Thanks Clint! I was looking forward to that. Stunning footage- I can only imagine what it looked like in person.
You have to do more of these ride vlogs they're amazing, really fun to watch.

It's amazing how quickly we forget the pain...
I hope you got to do some mountain biking out there! It truly does look like cycling heaven
Clint... thank you for sharing... the scenery looked amazing! Even more, given the jet lag and getting sick, you hung in there til the end. Looking forward to the next video...
Congratulations Clint! Thanks for sharing your ride.
Well done Clint. I'd recommend the Pyrenees too for beautiful mountain rides steeped in cycling folklore.
That looked like an epic ride! Nice scenery. Also nice to see the graffiti on the road from previous Tours. Thanks for sharing,Clint!

Well done, I very done it 3 times and it never gets any easier, hopefully you will come back next year.
Hello Great video. I was there and completed it. I feel your pain. Such a great event but boy how hard was that . x
Simply incredible! Congratulations!!
stunning scenery. thank you for sharing
Awesome effort Clint very well done indeed.
That’s some awesome scenery, thanks for sharing this incredible experience :)
Amazing scenery! Well done!
Great video. Stunning views. Jet lag is tough to handle sometimes. The altitude didn't help. Kudos to you.
Such an awesome experience! Thanks for sharing.
"There is no way that is 3k" thats what i was telling myself all the time before reaching Galibier, very very very hard for me too. Once in a lifetime experience. 👌👌👍👍👍
Been waiting for this video. Glad you enjoyed it, even with the challenges.
Take a look at Mt Lemmon in Tucson, Az. 25ish miles of continuous epic climb/descent. Tommy D trained a bunch on this mtn. Great vid btw.
Great video, really enjoyed this.

thanks for sharing this experience! quite jealous when looking at the scenery. I'm not a Roadie but this could really make me considering it ;-)
A great honest account, well done!
Awesome job!! Thanks for sharing

I used a GoPro Hero 6. Really good electronic image stabilization.
Glad you enjoy your trip in france, first time I heard no complains from a north american about my country.
I love France!
What a amazing place. Magical !!!
Amazing, well done to you Sir....
Awesome Clint!
Nice one! I got round in 8hrs 42mins and it was TOUGH!
Great clips Clint. Is 4 w/kg enough to complete the Marmotte comfortably?
Absolutely. My advice always for a longer event is to never redline it. Ride at your own pace and don't try to keep up with someone who flies past you. They're either much stronger than you or they're going to blow up.
Looks incredible. I need to do this sportive just need to convince the wife. How did you get on the Look Gran Fondo team ?
Look selected a few people who had social media outlets (Instagram and TH-cam). I also have a connection in the industry so it all worked out well..

Wow that countryside was magnificent! Right on for making the finish line. How many feet of climbing was that?
I had just over 16, 000 feet of climbing
Merveilleux ! Merci Clint

La Marmotte is nice, but Maratona dles Dolomites is the best. Congratulations for the ride!
Good job finishing it, I probably passed you at Glandon top, I started in the second start at 7:30, I did it in 7h26 official time. What camera are you using ? I find it really good quality
GoPro hero 6
I had the same question, Clint. How are you mounting it--bike or body? And is it on a gimbal, cuz the quality is great? Thanks for posting!
happy for you brother!!!
What gearing were you using?
Nice vid bro!
Is it flax fibre or flex fibre? Oh and well done!
Flax

If you ever decide to visit Switzerland, just let me know and I can be your guide. We have some of the most beautiful roads in Europe.
That would be awesome!
Outstanding!
18:30 La Meije 3984 m on your left ! Behind 4102 m la Barre des Ecrins ! Huge !
