I visited Hoi An in 2008 and it was immensely charming. It was not over crowded with tourists so the charm of the city was much more pronounced. I loved all of Vietnam and it became my favorite city in southeast Asia.

My first stay was about 10 years ago when it was the Life Heritage Resort. It was far from perfect however their long stay package was excellent river view room, bfst, massages and airport pick up and drop of for $140 aud a night. The massages still rate as some of the best that I have ever experienced. Beaten only by the Peninsula in Bangkok.
The hotel ended up being bought by the Anantara. They dropped off all the included benefits and increased the rate.
We stopped staying when the rates went up to $300 aud with bfst.
The hotel is not 5*, 4* at the best.
Pros
Lovely grounds
Attractive exterior
Close to Old Town
Cons
Far too expensive, much better for a third of the rate.
No lifts
Difficult to walk upstairs for breakfast for anyone with mobility issues.
Can be very noisy depending on the room.
Rooms are very dark
Rooms very dated
The rooms have recently been renovated so now maybe more attractive.
Frankly I do not understand why you have reviewed this hotel as a Luxury Resort as it is not.

End was beautiful
Another very nice video. I have seen the outside of this hotel but never the inside. They did a very nice job. In fact my wife and I refurbished our home in Saigon with a very similar "Indochine Style" with similar floor tile known in English as encaustic tile. We then sourced 1950s furniture and had all restored. Indochine style is very pleasant. On one hand it is nice being at the ocean but when it comes to Hoi An there is value to being right in town. For those that absolutely must have the beach I would recommend Palm Garden Resort where we have stayed many times. Not sure about now but when we stayed there every room had rocking chairs which I loved....
As other people say, it does not seem a luxury place, furniture, the stairs, even the pool you say was under works. I think is the general opinion. I agree. Anantara cie. ,has good places, the thing for hotels is if you find them in the right moment. They need a continious maintenance and sometimes the owners forget that. Thank you

A shame that we couldnt see the pool areas and their gardens , despite the renovation. I am currently deciding whether to stay at Anantara or the Essence hotel when I travel there later this year ( not as lux, but having stayed at an Essence in Hanoi I can deduce how good Essence Hoi An most likely will be). The quality of your video has put Anantara back in contention. Thanks.
Mark Johnson if you were in Hanoi you should have stayed at the hotel metropole

Very nice video, Anantara is amazing, Banana Island in Doha is on my bucket list, and I will also try the one in Oman in November, after your amazing review :) Really looking forward to stay there.
Finally, I really want to thank you for the inspiration you are providing to us. Just came back from 10 days in Seychelles, the Six Senses was beyond words... Got an upgrade to the Sea View villa, 5 nights in pure heaven.. Thank you for helping us to dream, relax, enjoy and inspire us. My honeymoon was a dream come true.. I just tried something new with the music ;-) ... But it's al back to normal this Saturday with my new clip (Cathay Pacific A350 Business Class).
I wondered if that red suitcase at 1:08 was an imposter :-) This hotel didn't do much for me--I think I miss the beaches and beautiful swimming pools. Not so keen on music with singing--I find it distracting. I did enjoy the night scenes, market place and dragon boats. On the whole, it's been a fascinating visit to Vietnam.

Music is not appropriate with the theme but very annoying ruining all effort to showcase the hotel too bad
Not impressive to me, but I have traveled a lot. No pool or spa, and only the dirty smelly river behind the property. No thanks
Just to give you the correct information: the property does have a pool (was under renovation during my stay but reopened since then) and a spa.
