@@JohnECocaine Rolling Stone 4.5/5 "What’s truly impressive about Monster is the way R.E.M. make an album with such potentially grave subject matter so much fun. Earlier R.E.M. albums have been impressive in other ways and not without their own humor, but this one fairly barrels along, sweeping you into its vistas with the sure-footed élan of a band very confident of its considerable powers. It also affirms in no uncertain terms that R.E.M. are a band. Monster could be guitarist Peter Buck’s finest hour; he’s all over this album, proving he can be just as effective without all those overdubs and acoustic fills, playing more from the gut. Mike Mills’ melodic bass lines are integral to many of these songs, his piano and organ add a range of textures to the soulful “Tongue,” and he locks in with Bill Berry’s crisp, incisive drumming to make a suitably “monster” rhythm section. If you’ve been a fan of R.E.M. live and missed the raw power of their gigs on earlier albums, then this album is for you."
By the time they shot that video, R.E.M. had broken up. I think Peter might have been pleased to be asked about the bands and project he’s been working on more recently than having them repeat R.E.M.
I’ve never seen an interview with Peter Buck before and he seems a really nice guy. REM were the best and he added real attitude with his amazing guitar playing that was integral to their sound. It’s so funny as a person he sounds and looks so humble.
Peter's interviews are all over TH-cam! Watch some and you'll find he's always been the great, easily accessible, humble gentleman that I met in 1978 buying comic books and used records when he worked at Wuxtry here in Athens.
I've never actually met him, but used to see him all over Athens back in the mid-late 80's. At my band's shows, in the record shops, bars, et al. I delivered pizzas to his house- he was a good tipper and entirely pleasant . ANyway, he's always felt almost a family member, so integral were REM to my upbringing.
Not to defend him by any stretch but maybe two things... some like him have some social anxiety and don't always know how to handle some social situations. In return they seem awkward and uncomfortable. Resulting in giggles, overpowering voices, switching body poses, etc. Second, it might be the fact that guys like him have only seen celebrities/musicians only online or magazine articles. Then to suddenly witness their presence right in front of you would often make one feel nervous or awkward... in other words, "Starstruck". Thankfully I never had that issue and treated most famous people as humans and down to earth as possible, talking to them or discussing other subject matters other than their craft to start out with. Then when it felt right, ease into what they're known for.
Peter Buck is Peter Fifty Million Big Bucks. I doubt his wife will be the least bit annoyed that he bought some expensive guitars. Buck says he hates the music business, but it's been very good to him & his other R.E.M. pals, each also worth tens of millions of bucks.
Peter Buck is the reason I started playing guitar circa 1991. Such a down to earth cool dude to boot.
I decided to buy acoustic guitar after hear Peter Buck play guitar with REM. So fantastic and original sound
me too! 1991
We attended the same high school and college.
Quite possibly the coolest dude to ever walk into that shop.
Peter Buck is so cool. Thanks for all the great music. I hope R.E.M. gets back together.
Trust me it's best they don't.
Yeah, I hope they don't & go down in history as the great band they were & I totally believe that will be the case.
why not? far sight better than anything out there now, even on their worse days
I hope not. They left sounding great. Keep that legacy.
Wow, that's a guy with so much history behind him.
Those early records like, "Chronic Town" were so good!
REM are legendary. Saw them in 1995 for the MONSTER tour. Such great memories! Amazing album
Cubulous furthermore, that was their worst record. A shit record really. Your taste is in your arse.
Funny, I thought your tounge had been there too, because you certainly talk a lot of shit.

Peter Buck taught me to play (indirectly). Growing up in the 80s listening to all those great early albums as I learned guitar.
Legend
Videos with his son are always so uncomfortable. LOL
Agreed...

Norm's son is just a disaster............
Right? I would be humiliated acting in front of Peter Buck like that lol. Peter just seems very nice and cool!
Lemmo's Rickenbacker demo brought me here. Was hoping for a Peter Buck demo.
Peter Buck is one of those specially talented guitarists who can play the mandolin.
Upvote for Portland! PDX and REM!
Wow 😲
Makes me want to visit and buy a electric Guitar 🎸
Did he buy a Rickenbacker?
PETER OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The man on the right seemed to be really nervous and unsure of what to say.

That was it? Didn't get into some good nerdy guitar talk with him? Errrr.....missed opportunity.
Peter once said he only used to get asked 2 questions when he was recognised. "How is Michael" and "what strings do you use"
Seriously? Wow!!! People can not think of anything else? lol.
REM
Nice chap.
He always seems very cool and chill!

Peter Buck, you're sizzling hot.
The Real Deal.
Son's annoying
Norms son needs to learn how to behave better around people. Cringe.
