There is a very very old chromium OS feature request to allow to move the panel to top but some "designers" at google don't agree with that. Fyde OS can be installed on a specific partition (for dual booting) whereas Chrome OS flex needs whole disk.
very informative! I had been looking for something light weight to use on a media PC with native android support. Had looked at flex and was disappointed that it doesn't support Android
No, that's completely UNTRUE. There was previously a chromium os distro named Flint OS, which was bought by google. Some of the chaps who were part of Flint then went their own way, and started FydeOS. It's an independent company, based in the UK & china.
Anybody know if this can be used on a old Chrome book that is no longer receiving updates. My Granma has one and it stopped updating a few years ago (end of life) and sites are complaining that Chome is too old. This this just install and give here an updated version?
Old chromebooks had only 16 GB of storage and fydeos/flex require at least 20. You're better off with an xfce-based version of Debian (512 mb partition for efi, 2 gb swap file, and the rest the root partition for debian -- it leaves you with 8 gb free space, it's the only modern linux that fits in those old chromebooks). I've converted 2 of these old chromebooks like that.
"Fyde OS is Chrome without Chrome" - I can't believe you didn't go for "Fyde OS is a Chrome away from Chrome."

Thank You! As a VMWare Fusion user, I appreciate their including a VMWare applicance! Except it's x86 not ARM. Best Regards and Best Wishes!
According to wikipedia, so take it at that, Fyde OS was acquired by Neverware in 2018, which was acquired by Google in 2020.
@@jvp714 wow that's unfortunate 😢
