    "Finding the nests is hard work" yea now imagine having to rebuild it every week. They sell the products with eiderdown at an extremely high rate for the lack of work and care of the ducks. It's plain disrespectful and should be regulated more. Also I'm not sure but her handling those eggs doesn't seem like the best idea.

      Agree. I'm still mad at it

    • @ragnhildmd5063
      @ragnhildmd5063 2 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      That's not how it is done (at least in the country where i'm from). The eider duck (the only kind that produces eider down) is so domestic in behaviour when nesting that you can literally walk up to it and touch it when it's on the nest. This makes it vurnerable to predators, as they often don't flee when i danger. In the areas by the coast where they nest, locals have held a tradition for centuries that is profitable for both the people and the birds. They build many small shacks/houses on the land they own, that the birds can safely nest in as the human presence will keep predators away. After the eggs hatch and the duck and chicks abandon the nest, the people will gather the nest, clean the down and sell it for being used as filling in duvets (and sometimes winter clothes).
      (the video did say that the woman only takes a small part of the nest and leaves more than enough for the eggs, when searching for them in the wild. However i'm only used to the former way of down harvesting)

    • @blue.johnstone.z
      @blue.johnstone.z ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ragnhildmd5063 it's fine if the eggs had already hatched bc they don't need the nest anymore but the literally showed a woman taking the eggs out of the nes and then taking the nest. i mean im glad she left some behind but i wish she's waited for the eggs to hatch first

    • @ragnhildmd5063
      @ragnhildmd5063 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@blue.johnstone.z yeah, that's why i said that the practice is completely different in the region i'm from in Northern Norway. There, they build small sheds for the ducks (even with name signs for them) and keep them safe from predator until the eggs hatch and the ducks leave woth the chicks (they even have their own webpage with english available, so i can link it if you want to check it out. I have a duvet that was made by the women on the island, and it's amazing). I also disagree with her removing down from nests where the eggs haven't hatched yet. And her argument that "it Will easily be blown away by the wind after the eggs hatch and the nest is abandoned" seems strange to me. The down is so tangled with old prices of seaweed and straws that to make it keep it's shape that it should still be there for days after the nest is abandoned. I agree that it's nice she at least left some of the down to keep the eggs warm, but the practice that she and her colleagues does is not how it originally was done, and it doesn't sit right with me. It's luckily not how it's done in most other places where eider ducks nest. In other places of Iceland where people look after the ducks while they nest also let them stay on the nests until the eggs hatch.

    I worked for a company that, among other things, digitizes books. They are also one of the last companies to digitize microfilm and microfiche or go straight to microfilm. I didn’t do that myself but it would be interesting to see them in an insider video.

    Printer watchers. There are rooms full of computer printers printing out material, usually at night, and it's the job of the watchers to make sure the printers are operating smoothly and to correct any issues.
    Toilet roll machine watcher. It's their job to not only make sure the machine is working, but the paper doesn't break prematurely while being spooled.
    Knight carver. On wooden chess sets, there are specific people dedicated to carving the knight. While most pieces can be put on a lathe, the knight has to be carved by hand and match all the other knights in the series.
    Video game player substitute. Some games require players to level up their characters. Some rich people hire these people to play their characters while they are doing other things. When they have time to get back to playing, their character is leveled up more if not all the way. These games usually involve leader boards.
    Icicle shooter. In Russia, icicles can form on buildings and get large enough to kill somebody if they fall. These people walk around with low caliber firearms and shoot the icicles off buildings.
    Helicopter operated tree trimmer.
    Fatberg removers. Fatbergs are very large chunks of fat that accumulate in sewers and block them. It's the job of these people to remove them.
    Porn dubbers. In higher budget porn movies, these people add the squeals, grunts and baby talk in the sex scenes. I've only seen one in Germany, but they could exist elsewhere.

    Am I missing something? If the Lego buildings are "built exactly on a 1 to 20 scale" then the One Trade Centre should be 90 feet tall, not 26 feet. (Actual building is almost 1,800ft)

    • @Nysvarth
      @Nysvarth ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@blue.johnstone.z For scale models you just divide by the scale factor. (1:20 means for 1 cm of model its 20cm in real life). Think they are just wrong and meant 1:200..

    Showing up late, but for those interested in the blacksmith part, here's a thing you will like :
    If I'm not getting wrong, the blacksmith shown in this video created his own TH-cam channel titled "Man at arms" where he and others blacksmiths recreate legendary weapons from movies and animes (eg. Wolverine claws, Aragorn's sword, Kill la kill cisors blade, The bride's katana)
    All their creations are as good as the depictions, and fully usable (see at the end of each video !). A must to watch !
