What a stud. Wouldn’t be surprised if stuff is tore in his knee. With that being said to literally take the hardest route through the bracket and dominate the way he did is mind blowing. Going to be missed if he doesn’t come back but it was a pleasure to see the journey.
A great showing for Erie, PA in the finals. Erie Cathedral Prep's Carter Starocci wins his 4th NCAA title. David Carr, son of the great Erie Tech Memorial wrestler Nate Carr, wins his 2nd title. And Tony Robie, a former Strong Vincent High wrestler, coached the 149 pound champion Caleb Henson for Virginia Tech. Pretty impressive ties to northwest Pennsylvania.
@teddavis292 Not making up anything or excuses because Carr deserved that title, but Mesenbrink would've been able to beat him had he been able to get out of the rideout of Carr. I think Carr might've just made PSU and Mesenbrink realize what he really needs to work on, which is becoming so good at bottom position that nobody can ride him out like that.
@zaynes5094 I totally agree. I'm a huge PSU fan. I was discussing this with a friend. The thing is, PSU kids usually get the takedown, so they're not on the bottom as often. As the national field dwindles down, even elite wrestlers will have their weak spot exposed.
That is so Cael! I’ve noticed other coaches HAVE tried to emulate Cael but they really don’t understand the level to which Caels staff goes to give every kid the mindset and resources to succeed. I follow very closely and put together bits and pieces of the approach and it’s way more extensive than people realize. Also as a further point of distinction I observe that other programs try to fit all wrestlers into their mold, eg the Iowa Way. Cael individualizes his wrestlers and they each have their own unique and special approach, which the staff nurtures
Great kid, well deserved. 2 things, First, after he won his match, Burroughs made the crack that nobody was going after Carters hurt knee, and he knew someone at Olympic trials that would. Super classless. Burroughs hasn’t won an Olympics since 2012 I THINK….Its time for him to go away. Second, when Carter tells the story of being overweight, and coach Cael riding bike with him till his weight was manageable, all the other coaches should take heed in how PSU is doing it better than you on many levels. Carter remarked the other coaches he saw were on their phones. 🤦♂️🤦♂️
This is the thought process that we need in higher Government honesty and commitment love this kid MAN🏆🇺🇸

Hopefully Carter comes back to Win a 5th National Championship. Be the First wrestler ever….
Said Cael and staff go down into the Fox hole with the wrestler’s ! Other Coaches do whatever ! That’s Huge for Elite wrestler’s !!!!
That’s def a torn acl.
I think he tore his LCL. I'm not a doctor but go back and watch the injury. Either way it's not healthy.
Great kid, well deserved.
