    That’s not a timing belt it’s a drive belt. It’s an electric motor not an engine. You’re using car terminology not bike or ebike terminology. Also those are not handlebars you installed on the handle bars. Those are called bar ends.
    Tires go flat for many reasons. It’s part of biking. So the Trek tires having flats could be because it didn’t have a proper seal (tubeless), low pressures, overloaded, thinner casing, burrs on the rims or spoke holes, poor rim taping, and many more causes. It’s not a fault of the bike itself at all.
    I like your review. I needed to hear something about this bike as it seems a decent value vs the brand name bikes out there.
    Was that skipping happening under a load? As in pedaling when you were standing while pedaling or maybe while pedaling uphill. A belt is more prone to skipping than a chain because the chain itself has more weight and grip on the chainring not just tension

    2 years on from your review, and Gazelle are still right up there. High quality at a reasonable (definitely not cheap) price.

    Thanks so much for the video, very informative. I'm about to buy a Gazelle as I have twin 4-yr olds that are getting too heavy to pull with a regular bike in their burley bee. If you don't mind I would like to as a couple of questions: 1) Do you think this bike is powerful enough to go uphill for a couple of blocks with the kids in their burley bee? Right now I just have to stop about a quarter of the way and and walk, and; 2) You say you pulled your kids, did you use a trailer like the burley bee? If so, did you need a trailer adapter to make the connection? Thanks so much!!

    I have this same C380+. Only have about 500 miles on it with zero problems.
    There is ibe feature I really HATE about the C380+ ..which is not a deal breaker. Of course I’m referring to Gazelles’s crazy cafe lock. To me, it’s useless & even counter productive. The only way the key can be removed is to use it (lock the bike).
    If it’s a quick, few minute stop, you only need a simple lock. But if you choose to lock the cafe lock ..good luck! If anyone (else) trys to move the bike ..even a few inches, you’ve just wiped out 3 or 4 spokes or more. Sometimes your parked position may be in anothers way & maybe the just need to role your bike back or forward only a foot, BAM you’ll need a few new spokes.
    For a quick stop that you do not lock for ..anyone else can come along turn the key to lock it themselves, which then alliws them to maliciously remove the key & you are left locked, without a key.
    EVEN WORSE, they can then use that key to unlock & steel your expensive battery pack.
    Even if you choose to lock your bike & take your key at the risk of sme broken spokes ..this littke cafe lock alone will not stop anyone from lifting your locked bike onto their nearby pickup or SUV.
    The bike is not that heavy & very portable.
    So you might say, then carry a medium size Krytonite chain. ..yes. But if you do that, then why also fool with a spoke breaking cafe lock.

    • @finraziel
      @finraziel 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had to Google what a cafe lock is... But I'm Dutch (like Gazelle is) and just about all bikes have those types of locks here (and they all lock the key in place unless you set the lock). We normally call them Axa locks, which is the most common brand. I've never had any problems with broken spokes, but then maybe that's because these types of locks are so common here, people know to expect them and don't try to move the bike against the lock...
      We do normally also have a chain lock to secure the bike to a fence or lamppost, at least for expensive bikes like this. The cafe lock is still good to have as two locks are harder to break than one (and bike theft is a big problem here).

    • @dlmurray55
      @dlmurray55 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@finraziel bike theft is bad everywhere to be honest, we just don't have a ton of riders here like you guys do. It's starting to pick up though. In big city here people steal bikes with angle grinders. Only lock I think I know of is from Hiplok that is a D lock that can slow or stop it fully. Their D1000 lock looks good in reviews. No one should leave there bike around without a D Lock in my opinion. Most in big city use chain locks with a D lock and try not to leave it long as even when people are all around they will still still it with angle grinders right in front of people and it only takes a min or less for most D locks sadly. Though the D1000 Hiplok does look promising with up to 20 mins to hours to cut.

    • @WeileWorld
      @WeileWorld ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In Denmark you must have this type of lock on a bicycle or electric bicycle or you can forget calling your insurance.

    • @raynetrunner2868

      @@WeileWorld
      Thanks for your reply.
      Yes, when I know I’ll be parking it, I’ll drag along my heavy duty Krytonite chain key lock or my even heftier ‘D’ lock.
      But for short hops & the possibility of leaving the bike for only a quick minute or two ..I choose my parking spot carefully.
      I’d never use the crazy included cafe spoke breaker lock. I already replaced one spoke myself when I forgot the cafe was lock and only pushed the bike a foot or so.

  • @BikeLaveen
    @BikeLaveen 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I just ordered the Ultimate C380 because I wanted a step through model. For the belt issue, have you downloaded the Gates app to test the tension of the belt? If you still have the problem, I would suggest contacting Gates about it. As for the paint on the rack, I would reach out to Gazelle. Maybe they'd be willing to send you a new rack? Regardless, I would put some clear packing tape over the spots that you are having the rubbing issue. You may not have any bike affiliation, but you sure are using this "review" to push your course. 😉

  • @GH-wt7ww
    @GH-wt7ww 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Nice review. Flats are common and are expected. But for the price this bike better be whisper quiet, never skip on the carbon belt, never have a issue on front suspension, never have a battery issue with sounds. And paint should never fade or peel. Those are big deals for me at that price. Where your bags hang rubbing the paint try clear chain slap strip guards.

  • @badabing8884
    @badabing8884 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    How do you ride the bike? Do you ease off pedalling when you change gears on the shifter? Could that lead to the skipping on the chain?
    I think it’s about trade offs.
    I think you being 220 Ibs also affects the battery range.

  • @dlmurray55

    Most people would be better off with a carbon drive belt vs chain to be honest. You would be shocked how many people don't take care of chains by not cleaning them or not doing it right. If left alone it can destroy the derailleurs/gears and cause a pricey bill at the shop. I could be wrong but most studies show drive belts are only around 7% ish less efficient then chains last I looked up some of that info. Also belts last a very long time normally, long as you take care of how you clean it or not get unlucky. Belts can last up to 30,000 km or 18,641 miles from a video I found. No need for lube, easy to clean, no rust, little to no maintenance.
    There is a higher up front cost to replacing them but they last long time so worth it to most. I'll take a no grease belt to deal with any day over chains since I'm using for city riding vs off road though some still like it off road. Mud and dirt slides right off belts so can be more efficient to chains at times due to that if you have a nice hub.
    look up "Belts Are The BEST Bicycle Drivetrain Available" from CYCLINGABOUT on youtube. Good video for learning why you might want a belt vs chain

      Belts are becoming the standard, is what I'm seeing here in The Netherlands. They were a novelty only a few years ago, but they're catching on real quick. They're very carefree and clean.

    Turbo Creo Comp Carbon EVO is amazing 😻. I love it!!! I’ve had mine since Jan 3rd, 2020. Mine hangs up on my wall. It’s easy to carry on the train as its super light. I have not had problems with it. The Turbo Vado SL didn’t exist yet so I didn’t get that one. I would love to have a Turbo Vado SL with a belt drive.

    • @SwiftySanders
      @SwiftySanders 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@MyRealEstateDOJO I love the c380+ but the deficiency is noticeable and like you I too experienced some knee weirdness. What was your fix for that? I’d say the c380+ is close to the perfect commuter bike given current tech but the knee weirdness and the deficiency. My Turbo Creo SL is fast. It’s maybe as fast or faster than my Medeo. It doesnt help as much as the motor is a SL motor but its also 29lbs. I feel like the TC is easier to just hop on. I feel safer with the Medeo and c380+ because they come more fully featured. During the winder the C380+ will be a no brainer here in NYC. I like not having to clean a chain. To answer your question directly Ultimate C380+ or even Medeo T10+ is more reliable and sturdy. Turbo Creo SL is a nice to have and I love it but the utility of the Ultimate C380+ cant be beat. I feel like the Ultimate C380+ can take a beating if it has to and still look nice.

    With that speed of 28 mph, this would be called a speed pedelec in its country of origin. Forbidden for use on Dutch bicycle lanes, instead you'll share space with motorists, you'll need a driver's licence, registration plate and wear a helmet. All things you don't need on an electric bike, but they're obligatory on a speed pedelec in The Netherlands.
    This is probably why we don't see many speed pedelecs in The Netherlands. The country is well designed for bicycles, with separate routes everywhere that cyclists have gotten used to. If a speed pedelec can't use them, then lots of people will not want a speed pedelec.
    This will be different in countries which are differently designed and have different rules.
