Seen a couple people poke fun at Mat’s more feminine look and all I can say is that no amount of lace could please this man. So this is just par for the course
i think a lot of people dont really clock the fact that Mat is a lovable dork in the books. I think Finn is nailing and will continue to nail that uniquely "Mat" aesthetic.
The costuming is great. The facial acting looks fantastic, too. I'm excited to see these scenes! I believe Moghedien will show up, she almost has to. And Mat's luck needs to make an appearance - hopefully introduced early in the season, maybe in Tar Valon or Falme.
YES! Happy WOT Wednesday! I check every day for a new upload from you man! Looking forward to S3, I think we are going to truly get to see Rand really start owning his own power and status
I missed the beginning of the Dusty Wheel stream (I'm at work) so I only saw one image. I'm glad you were so quick on making the video and showing them all. I can't wait until I hear what else you have to say about them. Yes... the #2 best Trakand I hope Mat goes through a doorway or some how gets his items in Tanchico since he's going to miss out on it in the waste.
Matt in specifically pink lace...I think that they are going to mash together Tanchio and Ebu Dar, as well (it makes sense for them to do so, IMO). I wonder if we are going to have the equivalent to Queen Tylin/Matt relationship there...perhaps with the panarch of Tanchico?
based on Mat's clothes, i think Ebou Dar and Tanchico will be mashed together and i think the "object" you mentioned that they are looking for will be changed to the access key(s) to the Choden Kal (i think i spelled all of that wrong lol its been a while sorry)
Jon: Just like in the books. The books: Tanchico, the capital of Tarabon in The Wheel of Time, has architecture that reflects its status as a wealthy, bustling port city with strong Mediterranean and Middle Eastern influence. The city features a mix of graceful towers, domed buildings, and narrow, winding streets that create an elegant yet labyrinthine urban layout.
The marketplace looks like a real bazaar and we haven't seen any zoom outs of the city as a whole to view any affluent areas with the buildings you described, the closest you get is one segment of a harbour street which wouldn't be affluent and Jon says aligns with real places he's seen, so maybe hold off on a full judgement until you've seen more shots.
@Frogface91 Jordan modelled his nations off real world places. Tanchico should look more like Marrakech than Tahiti with sun bleach stones instead of coconut fronds. If anything, the show's depiction of Falme is closer to Tanchico. They aren't even trying
@@robinirie98 This level of nit picking and pettiness is actually insane, like, are you ok? If they've gone in a different direction to your personal imaginings, that doesn't mean it'll have a negative effect on the story or that people aren't trying, but you don't seem concerned about the story, you seem determined to find any little inconsequential detail to criticise to back up a predetermined bias.
@Frogface91 Actually, you stans don't know me. If you have read my comments in the past you would know that I care most about story. Story is about who does what, when, where are what are the consequences. You stans seem to believe that a place when unmarried people are banging it the bar room of a pub is the same as a conservative backwater village because the character names are the same. I would not have nit picked if I wasn't being gaslit that it's accurate.
I believe Nynaeve's shot is different from the Mat-Min-Elaye because the objects the shopkeeper is holding are different in those two stills. And it looks like he has a stylised star on his bench and they look like DIY exploding devices ... So... We have a nod to the Illuminators guild!!!
I love Matt, he's always been my favorite character. I finally saw him becoming the Matt I loved in the books in the last episode of season 2. This is the Matt I love. Now, let's see his luck change and let's see him flirting and dancing with the ladies.
So far I've known 2 people that have died waiting for season 3, they will never get the chance to see it now. I don't understand why "TV shows" takes so long to come out now, they're short and takes forever to come out.
Thanks for the quick posting! I hope we see the Mercedes badge in the museum. Since Amazon is involved, I hope they didn't license the position to another company (looking at you Tesla).
Production Assistant : "Hey Barney, Wardrobe wants to see you for a fitting of a Season 3 costume." Barney : "Sure, I bet it'll be something really cool by then." Wardrobe : "Ah you're here - shimmy yourself into this little number; I'll be back in ten minutes to see how it looks on you." Wardrobe ten minutes later : "Barney? ... BARNEY? ... Where has that kid gone?"
Bayle Domon does not cart the girls away from Tanchico. He helps them get into the Panarch's Palace and causes a riot outside of it. He and Egeanin get caught up by the return of the Seanchan. Nynaeve, Elayne, Thom, and Juilan leave on a wagon together disguised as dye merchants, and they head through Amadicia. I think the girls won't just be hunting the Black Ajah but also an object of Power that can hurt Rand.
I loved the pictures! Thought Mat looked hilarious 😂. But I'm super annoyed that I still haven't got a single picture of Faile!!! I mean, come on! Is it too much to ask???😅😅😅
But Mat has been in Cairhien too, even if just in the Foregate. I do believe he is nervous cause they are worried about Darkfriends, rather than just the big city, but I am really loving his look.
Thanks for getting this out quick Jon! I'm not sure why I'm thinking this - and it's been a while since I read 4 and 5 - but I guess each penensula has it's own kind of architecture? For some reason I was picturing (or expecting) more stonework than this. (Or am I getting this mixed up with Ebou Dar? - Like I said it's all running together in my mind - especially since Mat is with them! LOL)
The Nerdist article summarized what Ondrej told them about the rest of the city. They're still keeping the palatial stuff on the three hills and we'll see plenty of it (even if mostly in CGI wide establishing shots - though note that last week's Tanchico image had a stone wall backdrop). These are just images from the poor parts of the city around the docks. And I believe that matches the books - wasn't there a lot of talk of dangerous parts of the city? Edit after rereading your comment: you may well be right that they've amped up the poor part of the city to be like the Rashad in Ebou Dar. They're already blending Tanchico and Ebou Dar a bit just by having Mat present, so that makes sense if they're drawing on both cities for creating the lower class areas.
@@maxsilva11 Ah I see now - the docks and the panarch circle would indeed be quite different. Like I said, I keep blending storylines in my head as A) Nynaeve and Elayne have SO many variations of basically "the same" adventure and B) yes Mat being there makes me think of Ebou Dar. I think your summary of the Nerdist article and the point you made is in fact spot on! Thanks for the help!
What I kinda dislike is the 'jungle shack'-vibe of the buildings. A lot of that is in the shaggy, leaf/straw roofs. The world of the Westland is pretty developed and this makes it look like a quickly thrown together pirate hide-out, which makes sense seeing where the sets stem from, rather than a long standing city.
I'm going to keep putting this vibe out into the universe: Phase 2 of Evil Climate Change doesn't start until about where we are in this season (and it's completely separate from Phase 1 in EotW), so the fact that weather stuff hasn't happened yet in the show doesn't mean it won't happen. I do agree that this could be combining Ebou Dar elements (I responded with a theory to Matt Murdick below), so if the Bowl happens it could be very different. I just don't think we can count it out. If anything, it feels like they combined elements of both Tanchico and Ebou Dar in case they don't get enough seasons to do both; maybe weather stuff will be continent on whether they get enough seasons?
Hello Up!!! Can you tell us when your interview with Sophie Okonedo will be released? We are so looking forward to something from her, about how she feels about Siuan and this new stage of being more present this season. ❤️🥺
Might be remembering incorrectly - but wasn't Ebou Dar important for the arrival of the main Seanchan fleet, Empress, and Return? Wonder if that will be part of the series at all, and especially Mat's interactions with the Empress.
Still nothing for Mat learning of the Daughter of the Nine Moons, his killing Couladin and forming the Band of the Red Hand, and meeting Tuon in the palace of Ebu Dar which is now Tanchico. Season 3 should be much better for Rand and Perrin's story line, and hopefully good enough to get approval for season 4 & 5. If they go every two years for a season, everyone will be so old by the time the get to the last battle books.
I think a lot of that could be happening here in Tanchico. In the books, it's being invaded "off screen" by the Seanchan right as the girls are escaping, so Mat might get left behind and basically be on his book 9 arc from there. And then it's possible that the Band could form from there: instead of Mat taking leadership of Cairhienin/Tairen soldiers to save them from Shaido, he could be leading Taraboner soldiers resisting the Seanchan occupation, and then lead them together with refugees (and maybe a kidnapped Tuon) out of the country like in books 10-11. As for twisted door frames... Who knows, that may be sometime they're planning to keep secret until the last moment. It'd be just as believable to have one in the palace museum in Tanchico as it was to have one in the Stone of Tear. They could even actually have him leave through the Rhuidean one, if they wanted to put him back on his book 4-5 arc after that.
I would like to know when or if matt gets the army of the red hand and if they are going to have Tasmania's because they don't have Gaul so it seems he was there for perrin and they excluded him. What are they thinking it is a epic story about the three men not just the aie sedai?
I've noticed this issue a lot with book to video adaptation in general and WoT especially: people develop mental images of characters and settings that are based in their imaginations more than or even in opposition to the text, and then get upset that the adaptation doesn't conform to that images. wait. so is Matt not going to the waste? Honestly, Julian seems an ok character to drop or at least delay his introduction. He is a major character in the later book storylines, but unless they plan to roll directly into the circus at the end of season 3 hes not core cast..
definitely the same street for the Nynaeve / Matt, Elayne, Min shots, but only see the one blindfolded salesman the same and he is holding items in different hands. So my guess is a different scene. Either that, or they screwed up!
Gaslighting on Mats custume. Taraboner men commonly wear baggy trousers and long coats, sometimes embroidered or decorated with colorful patterns. They often wear conical or cylindrical caps, possibly similar to a fez or turban.
Funny, I never imagined anything like that for a man of Tanchico. Perhaps I glossed over the details, as I often do while reading WoT. Lets be honest, the details on the book series are thick and out of necessity one often blanks the mind while reading through the description of clothing and buildings.....
I think it could be a quick flashback to Liandrin (a native Taraboner), escaping her forced marriage and giving birth to Aludran. I think we'll get a lot of delicious stuff regarding her, Moghedien, and Nynaeve all together in the city.
When you talk about season 3 being better for those who may not have enjoyed it so far, do you mean that the show will be a better version of itself or that it will follow the books a bit more closely. (For example: Rand, Mat, and Perrin getting a bit more agency)
Once again the lack of attention to detail book vs show. How many times did they mention the girls getting the veils in their mouths while talking? Channeling their inner bird box or what?
I really wanted to watch season 3 of Wheel of Time, but due to it being produced by Amazon, which directly enriches an already nauseatingly wealthy Jeff Bezos-- one of the oligarchs currently buying power in Trump's administration-- I just can't do it.
I hope they do better by Naneve this season. All the whining she did in season 2 was off putting and I have hope that she starts to accept her potential and use her powers to help.
What are you selling? Tanchico of the books is not some thatched hut fishing village. It's a major city of Randland with museums, palaces etc. Though the 'film' costumes look okay the veils were not across the eyes. Jesus, read the opening chapter of Tanchico where Jaichim Carridin meets with the dang King and some other scrubs. The veils are described in detail. I like the series, but there is nothing left of the books. Min and MAT CAUTHON in Tanchico? Puh-leeeez
None of the photos show the noble parts of the city where Carridin met the king. Not the Panarch or Kings palace... they show the seedy parts along / around the harbor. It is literally described as a declining port town that is dangerous and crime / smuggler / pirate ridden. Sure its a major city...but one that is basically falling apart. Also Min and Mat are there because of the mixed storylines. Ebou dar + Tanchico. that's why they are around. Dislike the show if you want ... but saying it has nothing of the books is very disingenuous.
It doesn't matter how much you or me like the S2 or S3 glimpses: all that matters if they can win the awe of the general public and the forgiveness of millions of book readers who they drove away with their terrible S1 shenanigans... and these people won't come back if they continue emasculating Rand as they have been doing... so he needs some wins.. Mat needs more screentime because only he can save the show (as he saved countless books) with his wit and charm... Hoping for a blockbuster season (because otherwise show is getting cancelled)

Exactly I don't see mat as intergral to the tanchico storyline. all his setup for his personal development is with Rand's storyline not the girls.
I think a lot of that could be happening here in Tanchico. In the books, it's being invaded "off screen" by the Seanchan right as the girls are escaping, so Mat might get left behind and basically be on his book 9 arc from there. My head Canon had a full face veil like you see on belly dancers.
Me, too...but I still think that the costume designers are still doing an amazing job.
How many WoT tattoos do you have?

Maybe Amadicia (with 's' sound, probably for the 'c'), not Amacadia 😉
I've noticed this issue a lot with book to video adaptation in general and WoT especially: people develop mental images of characters and settings that are based in their imaginations more than or even in opposition to the text, and then get upset that the adaptation doesn't conform to that images.

A solid veil over the eyes is a blindfold. That’s not thatch, it’s palm fronds on a hut. Ridiculous.

Gaslighting on Mats custume.
Taraboner men commonly wear baggy trousers and long coats, sometimes embroidered or decorated with colorful patterns.

2:11 My wife has an outfit with that exact pattern.
Do you think we get the Finn? Really hoping so.
Who do we think the bloody girl is in front of the statue?
It looks like she's cradling an infant 🤔
I think it could be a quick flashback to Liandrin (a native Taraboner), escaping her forced marriage and giving birth to Aludran. I think we'll get a lot of delicious stuff regarding her, Moghedien, and Nynaeve all together in the city.
Tbh I always confused the two story lines anyway
👍👍👍🎡🎡🎡⌚️⌚️⌚️
Those eyes only veils are dumb.
Why so?
Rafe must rly hate mat😂😂

Checks and balances wont work if everyone with power is under Compulsion by some Forsaken.
Or if they ARE the forsaken I guess
@WoTUp maybe book Forsaken. The show Forsaken would be an improvement on Trump's current cabinet picks.
Once again the lack of attention to detail book vs show. How many times did they mention the girls getting the veils in their mouths while talking? Channeling their inner bird box or what?
