  • In the wake of a series of shootings that claimed the lives of 8 people in the Atlanta area, including 6 women of Asian descent, James Corden looks at the alarming rise in violence targeting the Asian community, and how hate speech and action are linked. And it's well past time we all address the hate that is at the center of these crimes.

I believe hatred for injustice and evil is lacking in our culture and possibly why a large number of people are apathetic and don't contribute a lot to sort out things such as racism or abuse or crime...etc. As some might say - Hatred are more useful than despair as it can motivate one to take action to possibly bring about change. I don't believe anyone should hate anybody, not a single person no. Hut hating injustice and evil is something everyone should agree on if you believe in righteousness and justice.

There has always been racism towards asians but our voices have always been invalidated and silenced by people saying “other groups have it worse than you”.
If you have done this before, please stop.
Stop invalidating and ignoring Asian voices.
It is not that we never stood up for ourselves, it’s that when we did, our feelings always got pushed to the side.
This is why asians are so afraid to speak out about this. Because people constantly invalidate our feelings
If you respond to me saying I’m wrong, you’re just proving my point even further.

Agreed. I’m asian and there are so many issues towards Asians that are ignored simply bc we’re seen as a “model minority” 🙄 many Asians immigrated to America to lead better lives for their children or escape war like my family did. Despite this, many Asians become successful. So successful that people decide to invalidate us and our stories. You’re so right and I hope that people will come to realize Asians have their struggles just as any other group does.

As an Asian, I want to sincerely thank you for bringing this to light. But I want to address my own Asian community: I know it's not part of our culture, but we have to speak out. Protesting and civil disobedience is not the way we were raised, I understand that. But this violence has to stop. We should look to our Black brothers and sisters for inspiration, and make ourselves heard.

As a black person it was so good to see your words because often the black community feel we are the community that fight the hardest against discrimination in western countries, but do not get the support from other communities of colour, but our achievements always benefit these other communities. Immigration laws that allowed Asian families to move to the US or UK came from Black civil rights movements. Which makes it more galling that often in the Asian community they look down on black people. Hopefully these horrible incidents make Asians realised they can receive racism just like Black people.

    • @Delboy0
      @Delboy0 3 ปีที่แล้ว +120

@Above Flesh Firstly there is a big difference between Asian protesting in Asian countries and protesting in a majority white western country. Whether rightly or wrongly Asians have been perceived as community of colour most subservient to white people and the least willing to speak up or fight against racial discrimination. And I feel this reputations is why some idiots feel comfortable abusing, attacking and killing Asian people in this new climate of anti-Asian racism. I think Asians need to take inspiration from Black people because all the anti-discrimination and immigration laws came from the Black civil rights movement and continued to be change by Black people unwilling to be treated less than.

If he cared why do people on unemployment make more with the CARES act bonus than most Asians and other minorities working as "heroes" since the beginning of the pandemic? They all want hazard pay yet majority of the frontline workers don't even receive it, only 5% do. Then even with the bonus they make significantly less than those on the current unemployment benefits which was $600 now $400 + 50% of wages. So people on average on unemployment benefits enjoy more money and free time.
So how thankful is anyone really? You all demonize any time a frontline worker asks for hazard pay or points this out. I don't see the goverment, politicians, celebrities, or even you, those who thank our heroes with empty "thank yous" advocating for hazard pay. Everyone demonizes frontline workers for it. So I don't think anyone really cares about Asian minorities or any minority beyond there range of view. Only a small ammount of people truly care and are willing to do anything for them truly.
So if majority of your frontline workers are minorities, why not pay them more and let them collect unemployment +cares act bonus? That way they can use the extra pay raise and free time to educate themselves or focus on bettering their lives?
I'm an Asian American who worked during this entire pandemic. No one cared about me or my fellow frontline workers. What's worse is that because majority of frontline workers are minorities. We think it's hilarious how you all pretend to care about us but demonize us when we ask for hazard pay during a global pandemic so bad you shut down an entire global economy lol. But yall just gonna say I'm wrong and bad for questioning why we get paid less on avg than those collecting.
Not to mention time is money. So you're making CARES ACT BONUS + UI + FREE TIME. While we make near or minimum wage. So if you really CARES about frontline workers and Asian minorities, minorities in general, and heroes. Why not truly prove this? Because you don't LOL. Who are you fooling? I'm asian I do the MATH

I'm asian I do the MATH.

Racism is just another manifestation of frustration. I know several people who have turned into fascists over the years. Divorce, job loss, depression, sexual frustration, general frustration towards society, etc can turn people into strange beings. Of course all of them started following populist politicians, that always have an "us vs them" rhetoric.
The scary part is that intellectuals aren't immune either, their minds aren't immune to frustration and angst, that lead to anger and hate towards people they categorize as being the enemy.

Mostly of the attackers are black american. Now, what is the essence of black lives matter if they cannot even know how to respect asian lives? Are black people truly seeking for an equality or instead aiming for superiority? Can we join hands to protect life than to instill fear? Asians' life do matter also. Black people are well known of their unity, so why not teach your community to be more respectful and compassionate to your neighbors. All lives whether big or small, black or white, asian or western are all significant and have important role in the community.

Please don't lump all black people together in this way. There are a lot of us who do care about combating anti-asian hate which is currently going on, me being one of them. Also one reason why some black people aren't voicing support for this movement is because (and I must stress I'm not saying this is a justification but simply a reason) is because of the issue of anti-blackness in a lot of asian communities. Personally I believe there are plenty of racists in every racial group so playing this game of 'well I won't support your movement because some of you are racist to us' gets us nowhere. However I'm just pointing out that some black people aren't forthcoming with support for the anti-asian hate community because of anti-blackness they've experienced from Asians. Again, I don't think this justifies their decision, but that is the reason for some black people.

@@andrewkaramura5679 and sadly very minimal support by the BLM movement about these events, not only because of anti-blackness from the asian community as you said, but because of the black community sense that the BLM movement's progress is gradually disapearing from the limelight and the reason for this is because of pandemic that they have associated with the Asian Community. The Asian and Black community are both important, they are not part of minority, we now lead the majority, we have a voice as one, all we need to do is unite and support each other. Still, it is sad to say that we have been toyed with by jealousy and prejudice.
