Can the assesment be faulty? Cuz my hip popped even when i did it but it went down, I've done quite extensive stretching with my background in dance (for example frog stretch), could i still have it while just being more flexible?
I also like the comment below suffered a horrific groin injury as a result of a bicycle crash. It was at high speed and the entire seat post ended up penetrating my pancreas. I now have a mechanical device to help deficate.

Probably more related to your bones popping than your muscle or tendons being too tight. Could be arthritis, especially if there is pain.

Problem is it hurts to do the exercise that you are suggesting to do.
Take it slow and focus on the stretches for a few weeks before trying to exercise.
Jolting a tight muscle like that is not great for it.
