This video needs to be linked on mayo clinic and health line or whatever. I spent so long Googling this condition, and the internet said, "it sounds weird, but it won't hurt you, so just ignore it... unless it does hurt, then you need surgery." Finally, I find something validating my condition and a REAL treatment plan. Thank you guys!

I told my mother about the clicking sound in my left hip when I was a teenager. She wasn't interested. My Aunt, a seamstress, kept telling me to stand up straight when she was hemming my skirts and dresses. My left side was shorter than my right. A doctor told me when I was also a teen, that one of my shoulders was higher than the other. Nobody ever tried to find out why. Last year, at age 75(!!) I finally learned about snapping hip syndrome. I still don't know the cause, but when in 40's a brilliant exercise teacher/ballet dancer, asked me if I'd ever had a fall as a child. I fell down my grandmother's stairs on my tailbone.
Thank you for this video. Why don't more people in medicine and physical therapy know about this?

I am a sports therapist and have had a clunking left hip whenever I perform leg raises and toe taps etc during Pilates, I have always keep my back pressed into the floor. I did these exercises today whilst watching you both and absolutely no clunking and snapping at all? Normally I have to really over engage my core to prevent excessive snapping. This is amazing, thankyou so much.

I started working out consistently a few months ago and noticed when I do certain leg movements there's a popping in my hip, but only on the left side. I had never noticed it before, it doesn't happen when I walk. This video just happened to pop up on my TH-cam feed, and I'm so happy it did! That popping hasn't started to lessen since working out, but now I know how to get rid of it for good! Thanks guys!

I experience hypermobility and have been managing snapping hip for a long time. I have tried protocols from doctors, chiropractors, PTs, youtube etc. Stretches and other exercise might work for people who are less mobile than me but I haven't had success yet. I’ve had this snapping hip thing for years, initially it wasn’t causing any pain so although it was unnerving it was just something that happened and I didn’t even try to fix it. Eventually I’m sure I irritated the bursa or gave myself tendinitis by working out and doing exercises how the instructor said to (tilting hips to press the spine into the mat during leg lifts - I think this teacher has Pilates as a background). At this point I can’t do most leg lift exercises without pain and my hip is constantly popping. Found this video last night and did the exercises shown, today no hip pop?? What. Even. Is. This. Magic. I’m sure it’s not ‘fixed’ but this is very encouraging progress. Thank you so so so much you two are angels for sharing your knowledge with us all 🙌

Thanks so much for the vid! I've had a snapping hip since forever and it's a real pain during ab workouts (leg raises etc.). I tried a couple of other videos, but I found the usual focus on stretching not useful, bc my hips/psoas aren't all that tight. But the control and activation exercises here really felt different! I usually try to keep my lower back pressed into the floor during core exercises since that's how it was taught in a Pilates class. But keeping the lordosis and the pelvic floor activated is something that I feel might really make a difference (too early to tell yet). I'll certainly come back to this! Thanks again!

I've been following your video on lateral hip pain after a nasty injury, and it's been helping but progress has been quite slow. I've also always had a clunky hip my whole life as well as increased lumbar lordosis on the injured side, so figured I'd add this series in and see what happened. Well, two days of this series added into my exercises and I've had more relief than in several weeks. May be a good one to link to your hip pain series :)

This video is so helpful. I used to have this badly. It would almost send me to the ground when I was just out walking. It would just come out of nowhere. It wasn't painful but the snapping made my whole leg go weak. Someone mentioned labral tears and I got really depressed thinking that was it and I'd need surgery. Eventually it got a lot better. I had taken up running and was doing a lot of work around my hips with the LAX ball. Maybe that helped. I still get it from time to time but it's very minor. These exercises feel like they will fix the occasional flare ups. Thank You Dr B and Coach E!

I found my snapping hip issue, which became a locking issue during outdoor walks in the cold, was not helped much by daily stretching the front of the hip. It was helped more when I discovered the ultimate culprit was a very knotted and tight piriformis in the back of the hip. Took a long time to figure out, because the locking and pain was in the front, and no pain from behind.
I'm keen to try your strengthening exercises. Thanks.

Man I was in the military and although I was diagnosed with arthritis & impingement in both hips. I was sent to physical therapy & had to take injections every couple of weeks.
Now, although they touched on a lot of these exercises and demonstrated how I'm just biomechanically jacked (my left left is slightly shorter, bad posture/walking gait, prone to IT band injuries, and arthritic knees.
However, no one ever diagnosed me with snapping hip or addressed my Psoas when I would explicitly explain the exact pain I was feeling.
Snapping hip hurts! Lol hips are always super tight, not aligned properly, and when I tell you sitting up, stretching or extending the leg is not a good feeling.
Watching your videos as they pinpoint the exact problem areas have done more in the first viewing than spending months in rehad or taking the cortisone shots in the hip. The tightness is still there, but I was immediately relieved on first viewing in this video!

I quit cross country and track in 9th grade I believe it was after conferences, invitationals, and JV to almost Varsity? It’s been so long I don’t even remember if there’s anything between. I wasn’t very serious about what I did, because I figured it was something to not be serious about because that particularly just felt right. I did it and learned, as well as making good friends all for the fact that it was what I loved, running was something that felt instinct to me. It made me feel like I could literally surpass the pain and meaning that had been inflicted on my mind watching my family members destroy themselves and become such weak spirited people. I thought that if I could run I could shed the weight of witnessing what I perceived to be my heritage. That I would inevitably be alone, like dad. And I gave it up because that pain in my hip would not go away. It turned my youth’s exploits into nothing but dust, long dissipated. I really cannot stress enough, the work that you’ve done despite my initial anger and frustration with myself alone while hesitantly trying to listen to you health folk talk me through the healing methods I can say that I am relived to know that your video helped undo years’ worth of pain. Thank you, I will now do animal movement free of hip popping.

I def need this...don't have snapping, but do have shortened right psoas.
My right glutes, psoas, obliques were weak and right IT Band was very tight also (used to be a distance runner).
My job is sitting at a desk all day.
My PT has me doing a step up on one leg then raising opposite knee.
There's no emphasis on slowing the motion down. In fact, he says I should only use my hands to assist with balance minimally, which causes me to hurry up the eccentric movement of lowering the raised leg.
I get that improving balance is desirable.
But I feel the need to fix the tweak in my right psoas when raising the right knee first.
In other words, strengthening the psoas with slow flexion and extension.
    Thanks for pointing this out.
To be fair, my issue at the beginning was complex:
Right glute was compressing sciatic nerve and it got worse from limping.
My right IT Band was very tight as well.
For 9 weeks, my physical therapist has been coaching me to strengthen my abs, glutes and lower back with bridge, clamshells, supine partial leg lifts to emphasize glute activation.
Then, lateral stepping with bands around my ankles and monster walk again with the ankle bands.
My sciatic compression is gone now.
The IT Band tightness is gone.
The main issue now is the shortened psoas.
Now doing side planks (knee) and another oblique strengthening exercise.
And the step up exercise with opposite knee lift mentioned before.
So I feel my progress has been fantastic with in person one on one support since there were multiple issues at play.
    Almost there!
