    Loved how this movie is so much of a homage to Harold Ramis, "Egon". It's a great way to tie up any loose ends from the first two. The "old guys" showing up and Egon's spirit really topped things off, almost a tearjerker. Renting out the theater just shows how dedicated Cassie is. THANK YOU.

    "I'm Venckman, from the home office."
    Shakes Phoebe's hand.
    No big thing, no praising or laughing, no shock a kid just did what she did. Just a straight acknowledgement Phoebe's a Ghostbuster, just like they are.

    • @Eidlones
      @Eidlones 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The whole joke of the first movie was that they're blue collar exterminators, thrust into fighting a god.
      Then the audience grew up and evangelized being a Ghostbuster, cause of nostalgia.

    • @GuukanKitsune
      @GuukanKitsune 2 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      @@Eidlones Actually, the whole joke of the first movie, is the idea of dealing with something fantastic, but it's just a 9-5 job and treated like nothing special.
      Besides, nobody said anything about any of that. I was pointing out the level of respect Venckman was showing Phoebe: acknowledging her as an equal and a fellow Ghostbuster.
      Not patronizing her with 'not bad, kid' or 'you're gonna be a great buster someday.' Not expressing how unlikely what happened was and how a kid never should have pulled this off. Or how all the equipment is dangerous and she shouldn't even be breathing on any of it.
      He just straight acknowledges that she is a fellow Ghostbuster, not some kid who found some dangerous toys and lucked out. Phoebe EARNED that.
      That is good writing, and good acting, combined. A lot is expressed in that moment, with one act and one line.

Very funny, very heartwarming, good character writing, and a nicely done update! I was 4 when the first movie came out, didnt have the courage to watch the first two until i was 13, and was really impressed with the visual effects, the comedic timing, the sense of humor, and how the ghosts managed to be sometimes hilarious and downright chill inducing as well.

    For what I wanted out of it, this film was nearly flawless. It wasn't a reunion tour, the new cast and story got to live and breath on their own, and they were great. The updated look was awesome. And I'm sorry but I nearly cried when Ecto-1 peels out of the police station sirens blaring. That was such an awesome moment. Rudd's explanation of science is also pure genius. "History is safe. Science is giving yourself the plague and gambling on the cure. It's punk rock. We're the safety pin through the nipple of academia." This guy sciences.

      @LMoftheCoast 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      100% here too. I barely managed to hold it together through the Spirit Egon scenes, but the moment the theme song began to play I lost any remaining composure I had. It was just so cathartic. After the past ten to fifteen years of bad reboots and remakes of treasured properties of my childhood (and especially after the monstrosity that was the 2016 film) it was amazing to see a movie done right.
      Sure, there are problems with the film if you look hard enough, and there are things that I personally would have done differently… but that really doesn’t matter. It hits all the right notes emotionally, and made this old, cynical man feel something again, and even better, feel like the franchise and the fan base were respected by the movie makers. This film was a passion project, made by people who love the franchise, and it truly shows.

    I finally watched this last month and wow. I felt like the child I was when I watched the original. It was beyond charming and clever. I also appreciate that they took elements of a few proposed third entries that never came to be, and used them for this story. While it had a few call backs to the original, it did not go down the route of Force Awakens and lean on them (and become a greatest hits of the original) to attempt to be good.
    The way they brought Harold Ramis into this movie, and handled it with such respect and love was beautiful. It was also great seeing the original cast as well, and in a time frame that worked, where they are not forced into the story and overstating their welcome.
    And the theme of passing the torch to the next generation is also beautiful when you consider the director Jason Reitman is the son of Ivan, who directed the original.

Whereas you compare it to The Force Awakens, which used those as a crutch to redo the entire trilogy to attempt to tell a new story... this one did it right.

The actor that played him, Harold Ramis, had died a few years or so before this movie began, so that death scene, as well as the end, were sort of a send off.
