I like this teaching style. A lot of teachers on the internet just show you very basic moves and don't go into detail with why you do things in a specific way, or what the actual moves and stances are called, not like some guy who watches anime and shows off his moves like he can teach, or someone who teaches casual and simple moves without any real substance. It reminds me of my old Japanese teacher. She does kendo and likes to talk about it, and she is very good at it. We're essentially getting a paid lesson for free. Thank you sir

I've always liked the history of different countries with their respective cultures. But when I set my eyes on Kendo, I was fascinated (more interested) and wanted to try out this sport. I'm glad I've watched this video
Nice dojo . . . so much space. I use 2 whips as my weapons and I ALWAYS win. My weapons: 2 signature whips 2 katanas 2 glock handguns 1 sniper rifle 1 electric staff + bulletproof heavy duty metallic body armor w/ oxygen mask
I train in Korean martial arts (3rd dahn HKD) and a dahn bo (pending first dahn) was learning sword recently. I watched his movements and stopped him mid-stride while asking his brown belt daughters (11 and 14 years old). They answered correctly because the mokgum (bokken) "blade" was facing up and he would have sliced his hand to shreds. NEVER use a live sword without knowing the basics beyond reproach and being aware of the sword. I use both wood, dull metal, and live swords in practice now but it took me two years of constant practice to be safe enough to do so. Live swords will teach you what practice ones do not: to be aware of what is in your hands and that it can seriously harm you, as well.
It's interesting that you say practicing with a shinai gives you bad habits. I always train at home with a shinai because I always assumed the extra weight would make for a better work-out, but you're right; that extra weight can make you sloppy too. I think I'll begin using bokuto for solo practice in future.

Hi! Thank you for your question! Kirikaeshi is very important yet people start going through the motions. It is because we do kirikaeshi a lot. It is very ironic, isn't it? We do a lot because it is very important but then we get used to it because of it! That is why we need to "complete" each strike when you do kirikaeshi. You can make it smooth but try to do it correctly. Kirikaeshi is to train ourselves physically and mentally so if you go through the motions in kirikaeshi, you are not actually training through kirikaeshi. 1. Do it correctly (focusing on coordination of your arms and feet) . 2. Do it smoothly. 3. Do it strongly. Your kendo will be awesome!
Step by step. You can speed up once you get the correct movements. Without learning the correct movement, you should not speed kirikaeshi up. You will have more bad habits that way.

Its old video but i love the way he is teaching ... he just make the lesson interesting ... its just amazing ...very sympatic person (sorry for my english im from czech republic so im not that good at it )
Thank you for your comment, WoodyStudio!😀 Hope you liked the video. Don't worry about your English! Eglish is my second language too! I am so glad that you left a message!

@@KendoGuide ohh its so awsome that you replyed on my comment .. fells amazing .. i fell in love with kendo and i want to start doing it so thats how i found your channel but i have question .... where are you from ? :D im very curious sorry for that :D ...
@@KendoGuide BTW: my real name is Miroslav Datel im 20 years old ... and oh 1 more question (i hope im not disturbing you) isnt it too late for me to start kendo in my 20 years ?
I like this teaching style. A lot of teachers on the internet just show you very basic moves and don't go into detail with why you do things in a specific way, or what the actual moves and stances are called, not like some guy who watches anime and shows off his moves like he can teach, or someone who teaches casual and simple moves without any real substance. It reminds me of my old Japanese teacher. She does kendo and likes to talk about it, and she is very good at it. We're essentially getting a paid lesson for free. Thank you sir
Thank you for your teaching, Master. I am grateful.
You're welcome!
This guy is such a good instructor ,he makes learning easier .
You are my first Kendo Sensei. Thank you! 😎

I’m a Japanese student who was raised in the states, I recently returned to Japan and I’m attending high school there. I joined the kendo club with no experience. I’m gonna start watching these vids to improve and hopefully they work

Thank you for your comment, help me reach 1k with 1 vid!😀 Hope you liked the video. I have tons of videos here but also have more info at kendo-guide.com. Hope you get a lot of info you need! 😀👍
If you go to a dojo, you can ask your teacher why your strikes are weak.

His patience is that of a big brother, his expertise that of an experienced teacher. I'm glad I stumbled on his video.
I really enjoyed watching this, you're a very good Sensei! The pace of the lesson is very helpful. Thank you

What part of the body? You need to train all the parts of your body 😀👍
@@KendoGuide yes I'm still editing this comment to beat all the features from that Art! thanks for the precious content
this is the greatest basics explanation out there, unlike others you actually show and describe why is every detail important. Thanks.
Thank you!
Thanks for making this video. I have improved my sword skills and use this video all the time to check myself
Thanks for your comment and you're welcome, Jelly McYeat! 😄🙏

The beginning part gave me a flashback to my first Sensei, he always used to say this:
“Perfect practice makes perfect”
Thank you for your comment, __Lowkey CrayZ__!😀 And even though you cannot ever achieve perfection... that's why we are challenging, aren't we?
I'ma just make myself a Samurai this Quarantine
Lol you must be the daimyo by now 😂
I like his sense of humor!
Thank you for the kind words! I don't remember if I said anything funny in this video 😅

I came here searching for some pointers on how to practice some suburi and i learned a few new things. Thanks, your video help me understand some of the unclear things. I'll go practice now :D
Tahayari Dan You are more than welcome! Glad that the video helped you :)
My weapons:
2 signature whips
2 katanas
2 glock handguns
1 sniper rifle
1 electric staff
+ bulletproof heavy duty metallic body armor w/ oxygen mask
Who the hell are you?!

@@ryancasey4038 Oh. Sorry for disturbing, big guy.
Got a katana today at comic con. A REAL one. So I have to learn how to use it right! Nice video!
You should be very careful. You really have to learn how to treat the sword right.
Be careful!
Jonathon Cowley u r french me to
thank you for acctually providing a valid educational video, instead of just smash, smash, cut, slice.
You're very welcome! Glad that you liked :)
wow really helpful thank you master sir
Great to hear that!
Was looking to learn before entering a Kendo club at a university and all the kendo teachers nearby no longer teach, so glad to find amazing content of good quality like this!

Thank you for your comment, potato!😀 Hope you liked the video. The pandemic really is a challenge for us. But also because of the situation, there are things that we can do more. I have talked to some people that I can't usually talk. That is a big positive thing out of this stressful situation. ❤👍

I was always told to master the basics first, in further exploration of this practice..I know I will be able to grow stronger through the preciseness of it all. This is why I chose this form of blade.
I love ya!! I appreciate the time and teaching. Domo Arigato gozaimasu. Very zen like. The sword is a beautiful weapon that takes many years of tears, sweat and ( occasion cussing 🤬). My thanks 🙏
Thank you! Well to me, a lot of cussing! LOL!
Can't tell you how much I appreciate this video. I live in a rural area with no access to this knowledge but thanks to you I'm learning the correct way.
先生、この素晴らしい指導に感謝します。
ありがとうございます!
My shinai gonna arrive in the following week, watching this make me feel so so so excited to practice. I can’t waitttt
Thank you for sharing your excitement! It’s great to see fellow practitioners looking forward to their training. Enjoy your new shinai!
Thank you!
You bet!
Finally I Find a good teacher. Thanks for upload this video.
Greetings from Argentine.
You're very welcome! I am glad that you think I am a good teacher :) If you can find a dojo around where you live that is the best. If you cannot find one or doesn't know where to start, let me know. You can use this dojo search: www.kendo-guide.com/kendo_dojo_search.html
good luck!
IMHO: One could practice, alone, outdoors, using One's own shadow to help assess One's own form. (if no mirrors available).
cant wait to start trraining!!
Наконец то, хоть кто то выпустил годный туториал к кэндо!

Finally, someone create awesome tutorial for Kendo!
Thank you!
I just joined my university's kendo club. We have a 7-dan instructor who is very proficient, but this is great for practicing at home. Thank you for the content.
Great video , thank you very helpful . I've been studying for a long time different styles and techniques
you're welcome!
I know a little of english but uself make it so clear, what a good teacher/master...
Thank you so much ! I used to practice kendo each week end on Dojo but it wasn't really enough thanks to you I know now how to practice kendo also at home for improving my skills!
You're welcome! I am glad that you think this is helpful!
I have a question if it doesn't bother you : Do you have some advices about how to do well kirikaishi ?
Doumo arigatou gozaimasu sensei ! I will try my best to do it better ! So is that mean that we don't need speed for doing kirikaeshi ?
Step by step. You can speed up once you get the correct movements. Without learning the correct movement, you should not speed kirikaeshi up. You will have more bad habits that way.
Thanks for this, it really helps me a lot and I hope that this will be big martial arts here in Philippines
Thanks for your comment and you're welcome, @chriszxv1.0! 😄It looks like the Philipines have quite good groups of kendo people. You should check their site: www.kendo.ph/
