Excellent video. I think I own the entire Birthright line and somehow never got it to the table. :D This video got me enthused about it again and I finally broke out my box set and played a solo warcards scenario. It is really good. Quick setup and cleanup, which is super important in a wargame. Ran 5 units of Anuireans vs 5 units of goblins in a couple of hours, at a leisurely pace. Only thing I'd probably add would be the use of some beads or tokens to mark routed units and such to remember to execute their moves in the Morale phase. Other than that, great! Thanks for the video overview!
Great video, I love the change from a card draw to a d10 die roll for attacks. As possibly the leading authority on campaigning in that setting it'd be awesome if you could get either of the original co-designers (Rich Baker and Colin McComb) on as guests to hear their takes on the creation of the setting and its struggle to find its footing among all the setting saturation and financial troubles that TSR was experiencing at the time.
I really like that concept for resolving fantasy war, and since a lot of my players are tactical they will enjoy it. I'd only make 1 small change and swap in a 2d6 roll for the d10. With the bell curve the +/- modifiers will play a bigger part.
Great video Double D. Always wanted to try the mass combat in Birthright. This vid was a great idea. Helps to walk through a system instead of jumping in from a book.
You finally got the magic of light and heat back! Hope you had a wood burning stove or that it wasn’t too cold for you and the Misses. Losing the power mid winter in northern climes is definitely not fun. Been there done that.
So I really enjoy the Rogue Trader Battlefleet Koronus Ground wars rules for mass combat. It's simple, easy to understand and tactics are still a big part which allows the players that want to have direct control over and make smart decisions matter. I tried the birthright card system 6 years ago. I enjoyed it but it upset one of my players so much that he left the game for the day. So I ended up going a different route and going back to the previous combat system we were using, which was boring but tolerable. If I had to do it over I'd use the RT Battlefeet rules now and things would work far better.
He thought it was convoluted, unintuitive, and pretty much a two-player game, along with the fact that there were no specialized stratagems or tactics that you could use. It was move and attack or shoot or charge and that was about it. The enemy that they faced was superior in number and that didn't feel good either. The group did end up winning but he wasn't around for that.
I want to thank you for your recommendation to play C&C. I’ve run 2 sessions with my nieces and they love it! We are about to start the Shadows of Halfling Hall module, then move into Death in the Treklant. I’m weaving the narrative together. Any recommendations on modules after that I could weave into for levels 5 to 9?
for 25 years i have wanted to do a birthright campaign, in one sense or another... never had the friends and players for it and now my health is not up to running something like that on my own at the full level as written in that setting and system... i wish the old pc game got reincarnated as a gm assistent so i would not have to do everything on paper...
Interesting. I'm about to run "big" combat in my game. player's ship are about to be attacked by pirates. ARRRGH. It's interesting. But it doesn't look like what I need.
that's one thing that has been lost compared to TSR D&D, art style and quality just doesn't feel right anymore, the hand-drawn stuff was better and had a more traditional feel, same goes for games workshop's 80s/90s stuff, we're losing the humanity of nerd hobbies
Interesting system.
Looking forward to seeing your video on Castles and Crusades mass Battle system especially how it compares with this.
Loved that setting… loved that system… still my best and most fond memories and my best Campaign World ever

I'd love to talk to them!

Thank you Don!

Fireplace did the job, thanks Surly!
6:65 I love that you demonstrate! Bravo!
Thank you AA!
Might be the best simple war system out there.
Warmachine from rules cyclopedia would have something to say about that.
Battlesystem was pretty cool as well!!!
I'm also using the dices to this system.
Well done! I have never wargamed except on PC games, and this is making me want to consider giving it a try.
It can be fun! I do recommend pausing the action to focus on a few rounds of low level PC combat.

Yes DoubleD taking to TH-cam again. Huzzah!
Triumphant return! 😁
you try the old battle system from TSR . it's a mass combat system from the late 80's
I have not but I am gonna look into it!
I really wanted to try birthright for a while but it's not available for print on demand.
You should check out the ACKS mass combat rules, really good stuff in there.
I am definitely eager to check it out, I will do a deep dive when I get the books in my hand.
I like the d10 system over the cards. I've never really done mass combat in game.

I have not run any C&C modules yet, but I am glad ypu are enjoying the system!

I had to work Wednesday and missed the BLG stream! Why is it not available on your channel?
There was no stream as I was without power! You missed nothing. 😃 This Wednesday we're gonna try again.
@@DiversityDragons Ah ok! I will see you then.
