My wife and I have never watched anything on DGN except live disc golf. And we watch almost every round of live.
I really don't understand how people (with a family) have 4.5 hours on 4 consecutive days to just watch disc golf. Post produced is an amazing product for people who love the sport and have stuff to do. (for context, I am married with 3 kids)
Exactly the reason I watch post coverage because I don’t have 5 hours to lounge around
That’s the entire broadcast. The lead card is 2-2 1/2 hours long and you can rewind and watch it when you have free time
If it’s a nice day and I have the choice of watching disc golf or playing disc golf. I am picking playing every single time.
I watch live often. Usually, it's just playing in the back ground as I do homework for school. That being said people do it for football every weekend so it's not impossible by any means.
It’s play in the background thing for me. And pay attention at integral points. Just like test cricket. That being said 4.5 hours of free time a day is hardly an unreasonable amount of time, especially when 2 of those days are on the weekend.
If I am paying for DGN I want to watch a tournament every weekend
Maybe I’m alone in this, but I liked having the silver series events. I work from home, and it’s great to flip on in the background on Friday when I’m working. I will miss having less chances to do that. To be fair, I’d hardly ever watch the Saturday round, then flip on the Sunday round.
Yeah, now fewer people are going to watch these qualifying events if they even film them, touring pros have fewer options of events to play, up-and-comers won't have the opportunity to play well at a silver event and get their name noticed by fans, and we all have less content to watch.
It's a lose-lose for everyone
Many touring pros (e.g. Calvin) said that they don't like that they have to attend Silver events to get those extra points. But I agree that it was a good opportunity for up-and-coming players
@@crypt84 Wasn't Calvin dropping top ten finishes from regular tour events because only the best 8 or so count?
We dont even have good 1080p live coverage for all fans , im a veteran fan of 20 years and people like myself want to watch premium live coverage , which is why we pay. Cut all the small stuff and other BS content until purses are higher for professionals and coverage streams do not have issues. Casual fans from my experience watch mainly post produced content with the occasional live event now and then. Die hard people like myself and my friends pay monthly and watch every big tournament live and even schedule out watching them on our calendars monthly like regular sports ( NBA / NFL ) . We also watch allot less post produced if any unless its highlights from a tournament we already watched live and we dont waste time watching low level events nor care about spending our time watching semi pros trying to get protour cards or the other misc stuff on dgn. I like the different subscription models , that would be great!
That was a great episode!
Epic call out, Hunter!
I think dgn (or the tour, not sure who controls it) needs to master their main product before they branch out. Things like sketchy signal, commentators, and live broadcast crews.
Damn it Trevor! We wanted to hear Brodies point in rapid fire rd. 🤷♂️ You need to be a host of the people dude. (And instead of taking pints, you should have added a point to his score for telling you to stand on your tippy toes!😂)
I like Brodies idea about different kinds of content for different eyes. Once my wife started learning more personal things about players like the Conrad’s bus tour, she became a huge fan and now watches scores live on pdga every weekend.
25:00 Jason rolling in with the Ninja Pic!
Nice job adding the timer!
Cereal Debate Night. Everyone eating cereal while debating...and GO.
The first half was a bit frustrating to listen to for me and I can only agree with Brodie. It should be fairly obvious that producing live coverage for an event is incredible expensive. Hunter said that they should just do a "bare-bones" version, but even if that was possible people would complain about low production quality and skip it. And as was mentioned: no one is watching qualifying events except a handful of people, either because they are hardcore fans or because they know one of the participating players personally.
One thing I would like to see is a re-delegation tournament where the players at the bottom can defend their spot against the newly qualified people. Though that would be an interesting watch.
As for who is watching DGN: My partner and I are playing discgolf multiple times a week, sometimes play tournaments and are now mostly watching live. Typically in the evening when we have time and can skip through some of the breaks. Only time we watch post-produced would be some silver events or sometimes FPO since its mostly about who can keep up with Kristen.
Yeah I could see having a highlights package for each qualifying event that you could use in live coverage as filler material is all you need
Maybe, but then again I don't feel invested in a qualifying event unless there are direct consequences for tour players based on the results
Do you think the heavy DGPT Texas presence has to do with the NADGT?
100 percent with Hunter on the qualifiers being covered. If your card players can’t play it makes a new interesting storyline to see who rises to the top. I’d rather watch that than Isaac Robinson and Eagle smoking the field
Do you think California was left out because of the drama on the FPO side? Seems like the tour is red state heavy maybe for the same reason. Avoiding litigation when you are a young business, is huge, financially.
Yes lol they are avoiding states that they could potentially get lawsuited and actually having to go to court
Minnesota is one of the biggest states for disc golf and has the same issue. It's not a long-term solution to just not bring the tour to these states.
@@philipsaul well sorry bud but they don’t got the money like the pga does lol. If they brought it to states that they could get sued in. They gonna go bankrupt in a year or two easy lol
Maybe more televisions playing live coverage at the events
I am a casual fan. I have a bag and i throw discs and play sometimes. I watch every Jomez, I watch the foundation videos, I don't pay for anything. I have seen other random events pop up on my youtube feed that I will not watch if there is someone I don't know a name of on the thumbnail.
There is 5 courses in Missouri that are better then all the Texas bs
Agreed!
Population size brother
I watched the silver event's
If I could get off work and watch that days live coverage for four or five hours I probably would. Off and on. How can we do that?
i liked brodie stopping to show to answer something really important about the growth of the sport
I liked Vegas. Water, bunkers, wind, different types of grasses -- lush green mixed with dormant areas. Course was way cooler than most people give it credit for.
Personal preference will always reign supremely here and any where in any and every arena that objectivity exists on this plane.
If a moneysource like the LIVtour in golf would like to get involved in discgolf, is that acceptable for discgolfers?
Unfortunately I don't think so. I've seen a huge percentage of people who say they don't want the sport to grow cuz they like the "grass roots" aspect. Idiots if you ask me
Let's goooooo should be a fun one
As a new player to the sport this year post produced coverage is a bizarre thing to me. I’ve never watched a Jomez or Gatekeeper why would you not want to watch a sporting event live?
because you dont have enough free time and a 4 hour event can be edited down to less than an hour thats why for me anyway. I prefer the live myself but usually just end up listening because of work
Also a ton of the coverage this year has been terrible quality. I'd much rather watch Wimbledon a couple days late in 1080p than watch live in 240p with spotty connection.
disc golf network, should pair with a company like DFX, and have a monthly special addition disc sent to all subs.
need a disc golf show for tour caed similar to the Ultimate Fighter for UFC
Trevor said the most iconic hole in disc golf is 17 on Winthrop Golds, but I think it’s hole 8 at Maple Hole honestly.
Spoiler shield 🛡️
I'm a casual fan. Play once a week. I only watch post production like Jomez. Watching live tours doesn't seem to catch my attention. It probably would if it was on live tv like other sports are.
Saying Calvin is having a bad end of a season is absolutely crazy.
Not keeping dgn if there are only events every other weekend.
I’m a casual fan of disc golf. I don’t watch pro’s but follow along a week or so later. I get caught up with y’all more than actual watching. I like highlights more than watch a full round. I play more than I watch. I do not have DGN I thought it was a waste of money tbh
KCWO > dynamic discs open
And it's not even close.
Lone Star State representing.
I really hate when I have to agree with Hunter.
A silver series as a filler would be fine.. as long as they are not losing money to stream them.
As a native Texan, I’m super excited to have more events in Texas. Because use to, if we missed Waco.. that was it. So it’s nice to have more of a presence here at home. I understand what others might have to say but personally I like being able to have options to see
I think of it like MTV, what made MTV popular? Playing music and videos. What killed MTV, not playing music and videos. I feel the same way about DG content, I want to watch people disc golfing for real. It seems to me anyone who regularly watches DG content/tournaments and real play and also actively plays DG and on any level actively works to improve their game, by todays standards, could be considered a "hardcore fan" . For real most people don't care about DG
im more than a casual disc golf fan and jomez/gatekeeper/etc is enough for me. the live content ive seen doesnt really seem like the quality is there yet.
Storylines are a good cover for saying disc golf doesn't have good commentary for live coverage. It's annoying hearing we need to build storylines, yet live has little emotion that doesn't feel fake or forced for the sake of commentary
Hunter saying the qualifying events need live coverage is absurd. How would DGN ever get a return on their investment on events that will have a worse strength of field than any of the silver events
Raisin Bran is the shiz!!
Dustin can’t hang with the freestyle. Let him keep his PowerPoint, Hunter still sweeps
Jomez and gatekeeper are the disc golf coverage. Ive never met anyone who has a dgn subscription
Well about 50k people have a subscription
@@FoundationPodcasts exactly, not very many. Almost 200k watched the last jomez mpo video
More eyes is more money..
I consider myself a casual fan of disc golf, i usually watch final rounds only, and sometimes only final 9, final round, and that's not every tournament. Most tournaments I just look up the scores on Udisc live. A few years ago I would have considered myself a hardcore fan I watched all of every tournament, MPO and FPO. And I agree with brodie, there's no point in cutting silver series, renaming them to qualifiers, and then spending money to televise them. If you're going to do that, just keep it as it is.
The courses they pick in Texas are the wrong Texas courses lol
Why would anyone pick Calvin to win a major!????
Signed up for DGN one month. Watched 2 live pro tour events. It was blurry as hell. Quit the subscription, went back to watching Jomez. The live product is abysmal to watch.
No story :(
hunter is definitely right people buy dgn to watch live disc golf brodie is wrong again
I agree 👍
Lol
Wouldn't that make brodie right? 😂
That banner behind Hunter sure looks like the Nazi SS symbol as a background image. Why the hell would someone choose that image. Is it supposed to be a lightening bolt? Tough look.
Qualifying series would not be worth the effort or money. I have no desire to watch any of that. Especially when I don’t know a single player
Hunter, sorry bro you gotta get off that soapbox, even in PGA the non-card holder events aren't broadcasted. it has to come down to ROI. I'm not watching lower tier players.
I watch every Jomez coverage and a lot from Gatekeeper media, chase card is often very interesting. And listen to a lot of podcasts. But for me Majors isnt that special for me - almost just another dgpt event. I think most casual fans Cant even tell the difference from a normal event and a major.
Anyone who pays anything to watch disc golf related content is wasting money. Put up pay walls and people will just find something else to do/watch.
I'm a casual fan, a poor one at that, so i can only afford to watch post produced.
Hunter...as an "analyst" you need to do better at researching your material. Jeff Spring said yesterday on Nick and Matt that there will be other events that have points available for the tour. Love you guys but you need to pay more attention to the world of disc golf as you are the most viewed dg channel!!!
This was released before he went on the Nick and Matt show and the article they released was the only information at that time. That article showed the only ways to earn points was DGPT, DGPT +, Playoff, and Major events.
As a hard-core disc golf fan, I watch all the silvers, all on tour stuff, all the wind read essays and would love to watch up and comers battling for a tour card. Both Brodie and Hunters take on this subject is dumb.
You think you’re in the majority? The numbers say otherwise
Top end DGN production? Please....weak at best, boring ball golf feel, jomez got it right the first time and gets better every time. I put DGN on at bedtime.
Listening to Jonah is painfully boring. How is he on the panel
Oh, it's Jonah - can't wait to hear some bad takes lol 😂
This show woukd be better if we got more of the pros on here.
There are seven tournaments in pro trans States, the trans issues had zero to do with the scheduling
Jonah lame
cant hear jonah. come on guys.
1 mediocre and 3 terrible disc throwers in a podcast. whats the point???? lmao
What's the point in your comment?
Who hurt you?
Your mom listens to them
keep working on that +18 score bud. maybe a new zuca cart will get you there. LMAO@@mickiesworkshop3490
didn't know throwing a disc well was a requirement for debating lol
