In 1978 I was 11 & wanted to go to a concert with my older cousins so bad that when I heard them talking about going to see Yes in the round I begged them to let me come. My older cousin (defacto leader of the others) looked at me & said "if you can sing one Yes song you can come" I immediately sang You & I. So on Sunday of Labor Day weekend 1978 I sat in the New Haven Coliseum with my cousins & Yes! And on my 1st day of school the following week I wore my little to big on me Yes concert shirt. A beautiful three quarter sleeve baseball shirt. And Yes delivered everything I had hoped for & more that night!
I saw them in Maryland just a few days after that. It was a sold out concert. We went to the Capitol Center to see if there were any seats available. Two second row tickets had just been returned. It was an amazing concert. We could almost touch them, we were so close. Steve Howe had about 15 different guitars set out. He just effortlessly picked them up throughout songs and didn't miss a note. Kids today haven't got a clue what great music is. Yes is the best!
What a kind of experience!!! I attended a YES venue until 1998, when they came to México for.the very first Time. Your story reminds me the first Time my niece went to a concert at her very chilhood, to see ASIA with original members, with His uncle, and His favorite guitarist ever... Kind regards from México
Thats a beautiful story. I saw them first time on that same tour also. 78" I think it was Tourmato tour at Madison Square NYC. I was 14. I had been listening to Yessongs with my older cousins for a while It was magical to me. I had a expectations of what the concert would be like, based on the live record. That concert exceeded my expectation. I still love this stuff.
I saw them at McNicols arenA! Keep looking 4 changes! Then I was in the Tenth row at Fiddlers Green in Denver. Alan Parsons & YES😊 my eldest daughters first concert, she was 9. My X husband & his Pregnant wife!! He said, how did u get these seats? I said, I got em! ( Flirting with the guy at the box office at the Pikes Peak center) Didn't hurt!😂

Yes is one of the few bands where their live performances outdo their records. There is something very special about seeing and hearing Yes live. It is truly transcendent.
Perpetual Change off Yessongs had this whole new alt part. I burned it from my vinyl copy. I wish it had been in that new DVD. I am still trying to find this version of a Yes song I heard on satellite radio awhile back. It was the best live song I have heard from them. I tried to look it up. It was off deep tracks station. Yours is no Disgrace? One other one I noticed was the extended jam end on "A venture" as part of steven wilson remix I think?. whoooaaaa!!!! lol
I really think this is one of the greatest rock songs ever written. The melody is just so beautiful, and the arrangement is so on the spot. Not even to mention the musicianship needed to perform that on stage in the early 70's.
Caution : Geniuses at work. Look at Steve Howe. Absolutely amazing. How can a group sound better live than their albums? Thank goodness we were privalaged to witness them in the 70's and beyond.
The best bands do imo. The studio might be the best place as far as true creative freedom. But a "band" is really a function of certain styles of music imo. Even if you think about early recordings of rock classics, Presely, Fats Domino, etc and then later with Zeppelin, the Who, etc they recorded basically live as a band. Overdubbing was sparsely implemented for the most part. My point is "rock music" is one of those styles where the band and that live performance is central to the music. The energy of a live performance and the freedom it provides to stray from the studio version all create this extra layer of expression. Yes and Led Zeppelin are to me bands where the definitive live albums crush all of their other works imo.
I feel truly blessed to have been 18 years old when Yessongs was released, no one before or after would come of age in a better musical era. My best friend died recently and it was his wish that this song was played at his funeral.
Saw Yes for the first time in 1977 at the midnight movies. Actually went because the Stones were on after Yes. Me, my friends and brother and sister were so blown away by Yessongs that we left early during the Stones because they seemed so flat and boring. I was 15 y/o and have been a fan since.

I first say Yes perform live May 1979 in the Boston Garden. I was forever changed that day, and realized Yes was not a band to make pop-hits, they were out to push the limits of music and their talents together. Their performance was other worldly, mesmerizing and larger than life.

The live Yessongs album (and the studio album Close to the Edge) was my introduction to Yes way back in the early 1970s as an impressionable teenager (I blame my older sister). QUE GRAN TEMA LA CONSIDERARÍA LA MEJOR DEL ROCK PROGRESIVO, SIN SUBESTIMAR A GRUPOS COMO GENESIS, ELP, CAMEL, KING CRIMSON ETC... LA VERDAD QUE LAS COMPOSICIONES DE YES TE LLEGAN AL CORAZON.
The really amazing thing is how little time Alan White had to get *all* their tour material down, not just this easy little tune all in one time signature (yes, I understand irony, thanks)-without his efforts this would have been a train-wreck. Drummer knowing where one is at all times is vital to this music.
Steve's slide playing is just so special in this performance. Really inspired me to pick up the guitar as a teenager, not my main instrument but it's still inspiring me to keep practicing.

In 72 I was 11 and did not see my first YES concert until 77-78. Many times since. Always killer. I have seen David B and Jon D as vocalists but nothing compares to Jon A.
You can tell by Steve's facial expressions that he obviously loves to play that lap steel - that and he knows he's in one of the greatest bands of all time.
What a great band. I was going to school and my room mate, Joe from Brooklyn, played Yessongs. What a great triple album. I did not listen to Yes till just recent. What a great memory.

I'm still trying to decipher the chant at the end of To Be Over 48 years later
Saw them 1979 the first time. Amazing❤
QUE GRAN TEMA LA CONSIDERARÍA LA MEJOR DEL ROCK PROGRESIVO, SIN SUBESTIMAR A GRUPOS COMO GENESIS, ELP, CAMEL, KING CRIMSON ETC... LA VERDAD QUE LAS COMPOSICIONES DE YES TE LLEGAN AL CORAZON.
This is one of those songs you just must listen to.
People forget how great of a band yes was these young people today have no idea what music there missing
The Rainbow was the best concert venue I have ever attended, from Ontario to London England.
The really amazing thing is how little time Alan White had to get *all* their tour material down, not just this easy little tune all in one time signature (yes, I understand irony, thanks)-without his efforts this would have been a train-wreck. Drummer knowing where one is at all times is vital to this music.
The way these guys are so tight in their playing. It's amazing.
Close to The Edge is a masterpiece!❤️
Steve's slide playing is just so special in this performance. Really inspired me to pick up the guitar as a teenager, not my main instrument but it's still inspiring me to keep practicing.
62 years old and you are my absolute favorite band ever such memories and such love
Stunning piece of work
That is such a beautiful song. It warms my heart to revisit it.
One of my all-time favorites. Mind blowing with all members on their peak.
Such a masterpiece! one of the best songs ever written! pure magic! I love it so much.♥
In 72 I was 11 and did not see my first YES concert until 77-78. Many times since. Always killer. I have seen David B and Jon D as vocalists but nothing compares to Jon A.
Nobody could sing these songs like Jon. The lyrics came from his spirit. The voice came from the Infinite Spirit
You can tell by Steve's facial expressions that he obviously loves to play that lap steel - that and he knows he's in one of the greatest bands of all time.
He's happy knowing that he helped make them that.
U are nest
What a great band. I was going to school and my room mate, Joe from Brooklyn, played Yessongs. What a great triple album. I did not listen to Yes till just recent. What a great memory.
amen..yes is one of the most natural greats of 70s music.
@@BluesLicks101 and then Steve went on to tear it all down as he turned them into a karaoke band with no emotion what-so-ever.
PERFECT SONG........WONDERFUL
