It's only been over 10 years since I took one of my R/Cs out for a spin. Nerve damage sucks lol. Good thing I have plenty of great videos to watch, like this one and all the others you made and will make.

I’ve never heard the term dig ratio until you on a recent vid. I know all about over and under but calling it dig ratio makes more sense. Many people think they do different things leading to countless questions online asking the same thing. I prefer underdriving because you end up with more teeth on the ring. Thanks for these informative vids they make it easy to link to people asking about it.

Back in the early years of rc crawling we installed digs to get around sharp corners..
rear wheel would lock up to act like a pivot turning point.
The “over under” works a little like a dig, depending on the ratio of the over under. 👍🏼

@@Trail_Blazin_RC I was there for the old days and diy dig. A pain to make but useful. I just think dig ratio more accurately represents what is going on for over/under.

I like a little overdrive to my front axle, for sure. Not too much, though.

Yea, I need to get some overdrive in the front of my Honcho (or underdrive in the rear - or both even) at some point. Actually I know for a fact my rear has a chipped tooth given the slight thumping noise coming out of it.

    • @HolmesHobbies
      @HolmesHobbies  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

the thump is a dead giveaway

As much as people liked running overdrive/underdrive ratio, anymore I like running matched front and rear setups for efficiency.
If I can get 2.5 miles out of a 1300mah 4s I'm going to do that......

With a ~ 10% overdrive your tires have enough slip on whatever you’re driving on that it doesn’t bother efficiency in a noticeable way.

@@chevyon37s I just didn't notice enough performance difference driving trucks back to back(one with and one without). I have double underdrive in my 10ii.
And standard ratios in most of my others.

I would love a video on gearing, I have a trx4m that I just put rear under drive in to. I am new to the hobby and have been messing around with it seeing what different parts do.

The tire rotation thing looks like it might be more consistent than my standard method of smelling the pumpkin. Thanks!

Would over drive gears in the diff of portal axle help give a Lil bit of take off wheel speed (punch)

Better to gear taller pinion on motor, less torque twist when axle ratio is maximized

@HolmesHobbies well that were my problem is really. I have a temper gen 2 with the stock motor and trans and trx4 axles, and the trans in it is like a one-off. I haven't found any compatible parts for it

So you wouldn't have underdrive gears in the rear and Overdrive in the front at the same time?

      Could for more rstio difference

Same first world problems here. Many rigs and very little time to run them.
