What a nice little tip that is with using the circlip in the lathe chuck to locate the piece for machining. I'm going to have to buy a selection of circlips now!
It is a good tip yes. But it should be enhanced a bit by using a clock indicater and a magnetic base set to hold finger clock and try to set the workpiece more accurate. Otherwise a very good video afterall and im impressed as to whats being achieved there
I've been around lathes, mills and other workshop kit for nearly my whole life and I've never seen that circlip trick before. It's fantastic. I love it. It's so simple. I will definitely use it sometime soon. Regards Mark in the UK

Nice build. That is basically the exact same idea in most every pneumatic hand rotary tool as well. Except they use vanes from non-metallic materials so they seal better and wear less... When those tools start loosing power, you replace the vanes and you are back in business... Thumbs Up!
Nice build but you need much much higher precision if the pump shall give more pressure than a couple of bar. My powersteering pump is of the same type and when it failed I bought a new one but I took the old one apart of curiosity. I couldn't even see any scratches but it had lost pressure anyway. The wings need to be very tight in the hub and the inside of the housing needs to be ground and polished. The smallest gap or scratch and the pressure is lost.
Everything was fine, only if you had touched the contact surface of the aluminum parts (5 pics) with the inside of the main part, the pumping power would have been much higher. That is, you would level the parts with the inner radius of the cylinder. I hope I got my point across❤
@@metallantik In my VE Rotary Diesel Fuel Pump in 1HZ engine it has those think its 5 veins like that and they just sit in the slots in very tight tolerances and centrifugal force spins them out it doesn't have any springs. The outer edge of each bit has a slight curve and the centre of the inside one has a straight cut grove i assume help to not make suction when they go in out as it spins. Cool lathing work.
Reminds me of the time I invented this very pump design back around ~1985 only to find out a few years later it had already been invented a long time prior and in wide spread use. I find it amazing how the same things can be thought up by many different people over time.
I like the design especially when impeller is so simple but i was thinking with your use of springs, if the impeller was spinning at a high RPM would it still get a good seal as the fins be thrown out towards the side of the case similar to an pneumatic motor.
Incredible, very skilled and talented to make your own rotary vane pump, gives me inspiration to make one. Would be nice if you can make a 2 stage vacuum pump. 10:14 - Is this a mechanical seal? Where can I get one? thanks.
This hydraulic pump will definitely work. It is a well known one, but because of materials used and the lack of surface treatment of the pump house, it is just a matter of time until the hydraulic system will be damaged, because of the small aluminium shavings.
Well done But there is another way to get more accuracy when putting those piece in the lathe I blotted some aluminum rod in between the jaws, and when I go to use it without the jaws in place, I machine face it, they are removable, And if he did not have a mill He could have held that center piece on the carriage on the lathe and used a milling bit or even a drill bit to cut a real perfect slots .
the second improvement could be that you clamp the milling cutter and the part into the tailstock in the lathe and you can mill, file by hand with quite a lot of effort
Oh hey thanks for the video. I'm cloning some dry sump stages for my engine build, stumbled across this! Nice to see you having fun fabricating. Thanks for the vid!
Love the fact you flew clean past the tolerances for the vanes, and installed the oil seal backwards. You can always figure out which side is the side that fluid is supposed to be on by the easier of the 2 ways to install a seal on a shaft. Lip always faces higher pressure.. 😂
You made everything up to the plastic hub/bearing in the end. Just wondering why you did not also make that since you did everything else. I mill would make many of the things you did a bit easier and precise, but good job using the tools you had.
Why does everyone unnecessarily destroy phones? Even tho it's not working it can help someone fix theirs and keep trash from landfills. In modern times people only buy stuff. Repairing is where the real charm is

Excellent and beautiful, you are unique😍😍
Thanks 🙏❤️
The circlip idea was awesome!
Thanks 🙏
Use of circlip for positioning of part in lathe, is a amazing idea😮
Thanks a lot 😅🙏
As soon as I saw it I assumed that's what those slots were for and was wondering why I never see them. Then I saw this comment.

Thanks a lot ❤️🙏
Very nice.
Your pump has no ball bearings, so don't apply radial force to the axis with that chain / gear. Use direct coupling to the motor.
Interesting way to register your work, quick and dirty. I'LL have to try it out.

I really hope you sent this to the phone manufacturer. Lol. However, I will be using this to help me design a few things. Thanks, Brother!

Makes you wonder how many modern inventions had been utilized by ancient peoples but lost to time
Idea Is awesome.

What's your top pressure?
I like the design especially when impeller is so simple but i was thinking with your use of springs, if the impeller was spinning at a high RPM would it still get a good seal as the fins be thrown out towards the side of the case similar to an pneumatic motor.
Yes,youd get both the springs and the centrifugal force throwing them out
Making something like this is very hard. You are a skilled person ❤
Thanks ❤️🙏

It looks like a pretty good hydraulic pump you're using your time for something really worthwhile

Hmm... not much holding those vanes in the recesses.

WOAH! This is really cool. Thanks for sharing!
I agree i have a selection of snap rings or circlips I’ve never seen that before I’m trying this thanks

have you messured the pressure the pump is able to generate?
I didn't know that trick to center pieces on a lathe... and I work in a workshop of lathe... thanks for the video.

what is that piano wire in a coping saw? great build btw.
The test subject was a tough one.😅😅😅
Nice build.
what determined where the inlet and outlet go as i would have thoungt the most open portion of the pump and the most closed
Well done

a smart and professional job👏😍
Thanks a lot Ali ❤️

Awesome. You should definetly buy a mini mill.
Thanks a lot 🙏

You have great ideas. Thanks

Very informative thank you ❤❤❤
For an vacuum pump (desoldering tool) I've seen a similar design but using graphite (carbon) vanes.
Oh hey thanks for the video. I'm cloning some dry sump stages for my engine build, stumbled across this! Nice to see you having fun fabricating. Thanks for the vid!
May want to consider using an old power steering pump. Cheap & long life hydraulic pump.
you're welcome ❤️
Interesting😉
Thanks🙏
Fun project, nicely done
Thank u so much 🙏❤️
cant you just drill a hole in the center, then drill an offset hole in the rotor?
it looks like you put the shaft seal in backward at the end, the side with the little spring is supposed to face the pressure.
👍❤️
Where is the bearings???😊😊😊
Does not need 🙂
