      @@bobbyswan5659 After WW2, much of Sarawak economy drop because of the War. Actually Sarawak was given to British was a good idea because becoming Crown Colony could restore Sarawak economy faster. Take example such as Australia, New Zealand, Rhodesia, Canada and South Africa. They join as Crown Colony only to restore the economy and 8 or 10 years after that they declare a Commonwealth Status as independent state under British protection. Except Rhodesia and South Africa who became Republic. The japanese were actually searching for a new source for their country such as colonizer do. So much of the economy destruction are cause by Japanese.

      He was a good leader, actualy He not willing to do it but he must because no choice his Grandfather Sir James Brooke was servant of Queen Victoria

    He shouldn't have given Sarawak to the Crown. He should have rebuilt it the same way James Brooke did. Sarawak would have been a rich country by now.

      Instead he should give the throne to his Brother Tuan Muda Bertram or His Nephew Rajah Muda Anthony.

      The time period when James reign over Sarawak is totally different era from when C.V Brooke reign. At that time, James only need to protect and govern a smaller piece of land, different from the size of Sarawak now. Although after James died, his Nephew Rajah Charles Brooke manage to gain new territory and govern them because of his good administration skills making Sarawak (at that that time) prosperous.
      One of many reason why C.V Brooke abdicate his throne is because of massive amount of destruction on Sarawak physically and economically after the second world war and without enough money and resources, it is impossible to rebuild Sarawak as it is before.

      Charles Vyner Brooke also Violated the oath of his coronation as Rajah when he hand over Sarawak without proper discussion with his brother(Tuan Muda), Nephew(Rajah Muda),the people of Sarawak and local chieftains. (Some of the council Negri Members also get threatened, bribed, etc by C.V private secretary Gerald T. Mc Bryan when the cession Bills passed by the Council on 17 may 1946)
      He also did not execute his father will (Sir Charles Brooke) to govern Sarawak with his Brother. Tuan Muda Betram did not fight for the position is because of his lack of interest to govern Sarawak as a monarch, instead just giving up the governing of Sarawak fully to his Brother.
      When Sarawak get occupied by imperial Japan, the one who became the acting Leader for Sarawak when Sarawak Government in-Exile was established in London was Betram and Anthony while CV is absent.

      @@autumnsaturday251 Indeed, this is where Sarawak Nationalism begins to flow to the point of the assassination of a British Governor, Duncan Stewart by Rosli Dhobi, something that would frame Anthony for his supposed involvement (although he wasn’t being part of assassination, despite being part of opposition towards cession of Sarawak to the British)

    Sarawakians: Lmao.

    • @LordDim1
      @LordDim1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      The Sarawakians wanted him to return, desperately. But instead he decided to abdicate and hand the country over to Britain as a Crown Colony because it was so destroyed after the war he saw no possibility of continuing to rule it independently and be able to rebuild it. The Sarawak Ian people however were massively against this idea and much preferred the White Rajahs to remain in power
