Vizhinjam has the deepest draft in Asia. Almost 20 metres natural depth without dredging! Ships carrying 24,000 TEUs can easily dock here. Whereas other busy ports like JNPT and Mundra can only handle ships carrying 8000 TEU.

deep sea port refers to ports that have very deeper natural drafts.
Transhipment ports receive containers from very large container ships and then reload them onto smaller ships which carry them to their destination ports(usually ports with limited draft availability)
