  • A new diagnosis of ADHD can be a double-edged sword. On one hand, there is the relief - finally you understand the neurological roots of your (or your child’s) actions and behavior. On the other hand, there is confusion, overwhelm, and questions: What does the latest scientific research say about ADHD? What are the most effective, evidence-based treatments for managing symptoms? Could ADHD be a competitive advantage? Getting the right answers to these questions is critical to taking control of ADHD symptoms once and for all.

67 years of age and waiting to get an assessment with a psychiatrist in Australia.
Every single aspect of my life has been affected. How do I feel - exhausted, sad but it explains so much.

Im a 55 year old female Diagnosed 2 months ago!! After learning of life long friends diagnosis at 47, I started researching into ADHD.. I was totally uneducated. I instantly knew not only did I have it, so did my youngest daughter who is 27.
It has been a huge revelation for both of us.
Miss diagnosed for years with Bi polar, depression and anxiety, prescribed many antidepressants that never worked.
    I survived a ruptured Brain Aneurysm at 43!! I got this 👍🏻
My doctor started me on Adderall and it has changed my life. My daughter who lives in Australia has an upcoming appointment with a psychiatrist.
It has been quite the journey..
Looking back everything fits into place now.
I now wonder how on earth did I successfully raise 4 amazing children🫣🤯
I can finally move forward and learn to do everything possible to live out the rest of my productively.

I think one can keep the secret (adhd) even to oneself - with false selfs (90% of life energy) ! of cormorbidities (HP + C-PTSD).
    (Anger is perhaps also "internalized")

In addition, it is a misleading label. I have hidden my struggles for many years because they are socially stigmatized. Listening to this guy.... it is so obvious. When I understood hyper-focus, everything changed.

@@fredhubbard7210 Yes, Hyper-focus is "insanly" part of it, it's a (no less exceptional) tree hiding the forest.

what causes ADHD to develop in adults, with no symptoms whatsoever in childhood

    • @Kahlua2U
      @Kahlua2U 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

If you did NOT have it as a child...then ADHD is NOT the correct diagnosis.

Many other problems can cause the same symptoms. Including PTSD.

It has to be affecting you from childhood to be named adhd
Many masked it well during childhood , so takes a little more digging /deeper thinking
