oh man, i was looking so long to find similar lesson. everybody's doing portrait and thats just fine, i was interested if these charcoals can be used for trees/forrests/landscapes and such
You work is really captivating. I like your style of handling charcoal. I was immediately reminded of this work of yours, while I was watching "Westworld" (season 1, episode 10, time: 04:41 to 04:52, do watch it!!!). Please consider this as a sincere compliment from me. Keep posting more videos.
lovely work, learning lots I only have the light round charcoal to work with. been watching lots of Bob Ross and then found my charcoals to play with so thanks! -Rachel
Compressed charcoal is made by adding a gum binder to powdered charcoal. The binder affects the consistency of the mark that’s made on the paper. We do see the reference photo for a time but not when we need to be able to see it most...as the drawing is being done !
use graphite as a vine charcoal and turn the compressed charcoal into dust, then blend it with blending stumps. i can't find vine charcoal and the only compressed charcoal here comes in xl size so you can't really grip it easily
thats brilliant Matt, I'm wanting to work with charcoal this year as well as coloured pencils and pastels. I'm having a motivation problem at the moment 😉lol. I'll get there xx
Always remember the quote from Chuck Close..." Inspiration is for amateurs. The rest of us just show up and get to work. " Hope this encourages you as much as it did me.
+Christine Robinson yes I totally agree. I'm a member too. I LOVE all his courses/ live lessons / critique/youtube lessons/ everything he teaches; ( except lesson on Drawing SKULL - I won't want to draw skull , never, hahaha 😆😆😆😂 )
Ngoc Thao oh cool, well hello to another virtual student. He he is Brilliant, all his courses, live lessons, blogs, members minute etc ... Oh I love skulls 😉 they are on his portrait course but you do need them on that course to study portraiture ☺ good luck with your art ☺
i cannot erase off totally the chacoal layer, leaving so much grey (i want it white).... is there a special type of eraser for chacoal drawings? thanks
nguyễn Đức Cường at 6:10 it might be an eraser stick. faber castell makes them and at 7:10 it looks like a blending stump (a pencil made from tightly rolled up paper)
Some rough paper. A really good brand is Stathmore. You can also use watercolor or heavy weight paper. This brand can be a canson sketchpad. I reccomend using the penneli sketchpad.
Watching this helped me so much to get started. It was helpful to see how to layer and which charcoals were appropriate to achieve the proper values.
Absolutely beautiful! Thank you for the wonderful lesson.
Charcoal is my favorite. This is gorgeous.

Hi,
Can anybody please tell me what kind of pencil used at 6:07 to pull out the light and 7:10? Thanks
nguyễn Đức Cường at 6:10 it might be an eraser stick. faber castell makes them and at 7:10 it looks like a blending stump (a pencil made from tightly rolled up paper)
At 6 10 is an eraser
Love it
super jolie bravo!
Vine charcoal is best , I use everytime.
WHAT TIPE OF PAPER CAN USE WITH CHARCOAL? SOME CAN TELL ME SOME NAMES?
Some rough paper. A really good brand is Stathmore.
You can also use watercolor or heavy weight paper. This brand can be a canson sketchpad.
I reccomend using the penneli sketchpad.
Rough textured paper is good for holding charcoal. Toned paper is also a popular choice, with white charcoal being used for highlights
HOW MANY SESSIONS DID YOU NEED TO GET TO THIS LEVEL,,,,,,,???????????????
amazing
Vine charcoal, V-I-N-E
so good
Wow☆☆☆☆☆
dommage je ne parle pas anglais !!!!
:((( this is soo goooood
welp...it didn't work for me (obviously my fault). maybe i should try something simpler
I am happy to see a landscape in charcoals. Thank you.
Omg this narrator sounds like sheldon cooper
I HATE CHARCOAL CAUSE PAINTINGS DO NOT LAST AND YOU HAVE T USE FIXATIVES.
But pictures of the sketch last forever
