  • Woman on the Run - Frank Johnson becomes an eyewitness to a murder. He's pursued around San Francisco by his wife, the police, and the killer.
    Woman on the Run (1950)
    Director: Norman Foster
Writers: Alan Campbell (screenplay), Norman Foster (screenplay), Sylvia Tate (original story)
Stars: Ann Sheridan, Dennis O'Keefe, Robert Keith
    Genre: Crime, Drama, Film-Noir, Thriller
    Country: United States
    Language: English
Release Date: 12 October 1950 (USA)
Filming Location: Ocean Park Pier, Santa Monica, California, USA
    Storyline:
Frank Johnson (Ross Elliott), sole witness to a gangland murder, goes into hiding and is trailed by Police Inspector Ferris (Robert Keith), on the theory that Frank is trying to escape from possible retaliation. Frank's wife, Eleanor (Ann Sheridan), suspects he is actually running away from their unsuccessful marriage. Aided by a newspaperman, Danny Leggett (Dennis O'Keefe), Eleanor sets out to locate her husband. The killer is also looking for him, and keeps close tabs on Eleanor.
    Reviews:
""Woman on the Run" is a great film-noir where the wife is not evil or the femme fatale. The title is strange since it should be "Man on the Run". Although having a predictable plot point with the identity of the killer being disclosed, the film is highly attractive. It is great to see Eleanor Johnson falling in love again for her husband with magnificent performance of Ann Sheridan. The roller-coaster scene is tense when Eleanor realizes who Legget is. My vote is eight."

Love conquers all....Ms. Sheridan has some great lines and she delivers them quick...how about the dog ...the dog should have gotten a supporting actor award an Oscar...Meyer Weiner..lol...the scenes of San Francisco. Years ago.....wow..makes ya wonder..and to know it's all captured on film forever.....

What a great movie, every scene, every shot carefully calibrated for maximum effect! One of the best! Lucile Ball could have played the part, but not with the sensitivity. She'd be all brass and valentines, while Sheridan was really living it.

Superb! Hitchcock in flavour but better in many ways because it’s not at all kitsch or pretentious.
    Thanks

Ann Sheridan here reminding me a bit of Lucille Ball.

Sheridan had that gift for playing convincing jaundiced, 'let down by life' characters that I don't think Lucille was made for: she was too steely in straight roles.

Stop colorizing movies, it's a sacrilege. And, unlike a television, on a monitor, we cannot return it to black-and-white, as it was meant to be seen. The costumes and sets and make-up were carefully adjusted, and the lighting was artful. Colorizing destroys all that.

You can't stop the Ted Turners of the world. One critic said that colo(u)rising "Casablanca" would be "like putting arms on the "Venus de Milo".

Everything is Better in Color 😃 If you don't like the color versions then Don't look at them 👏 Buy the stale black and white lifeless ones or if too cheap look around on line to find them . I pay for Prime so I can see What I WANT AND NOT WHINE ABOUT IT COVFEFE👍🙌👏😃💥😠😘👺💩🥴🤗🤑💯

I think an editor should have changed that ending if the script was written that way. Danny Boy should have been winged but not killed. He then could have seen the true love he never had and shot himself.
