  • In 1961, The Marathons (aka The Vibrations) would have a hit with "Peanut Butter" on Arvee. It was actually a rewrite of the Olympic's hit from 1960, "(Baby) Hully Gully". Paul Revere and The Raiders would rewrite it again to create their classic party tune, "Crisco (Party)". They even went so far as to have a giant Crisco can on stage with them! If you never saw them live before the Dick Clark years, you really missed something. I never saw a band work so hard to entertain their fans. This is, of course, why Dick Clark hired them in the first place. However, their goofy antics on "Where the Action Is" pale in comparison to these early shows. This version of "Crisco (Party)" is from the "In The Beginning" LP. It consists of the original Roger Hart supervised sessions from 1964, without the crowd noise added to the Sande LP.

From the year I was born! The cascade or Pacific Northwest sound has always been vibrant and evolving over the decades from the Sonics to Nirvana. the rest of the music world has paid attention.
