I will never understand how strangers online can try to tell someone they don't know what they do to their hair/body etc. Do you live in her house to know what she's done? Then how can you be so confident in telling her that she's lying about her hair texture? Ridiculous

    • @yashikabelcher6647
      @yashikabelcher6647 ปีที่แล้ว +17

Facts! All hair textures are not the same and if this works for her, who's to say otherwise.

As an elder, this as a beautiful very needed post. I appreciate you and love that you are raising your girls in this amazingly powerful light of self acceptance! You are stunning and I agree with your position on not hair typing, it's just a new way of identifying "good hair and bad hair". Stay well and I'm praying for the safe delivery of your new princess.

And THIS is why I follow you! I live for simple ways to enhance my natural beauty. You give that with easy and simple make up and hair tutorials. You are my go-to-girl for that fresh face/hair look.
Yes you spoke some truths! It’s so rare and refreshing to see a black woman fully embrace her natural beauty without extending body parts or features. We are beautiful in our natural state, but told otherwise so we may be pimped as consumers. BTW… motherhood and maturity is working for you! You are looking more beautiful now than when I started following you about 5yrs ago. Say blessed sis!! Hugs and kisses 🤗😚❤

Thank you for your honesty, Rissa, and for opening up and sharing your heart. I used to have very thick, coarse hair, but after going through breast cancer, chemo and radiation, I don't know how to treat my hair anymore. You talked about your curl pattern. Mine has totally changed since I lost it all and it grew back. It's very soft, and I haven't figured out the curl pattern yet. Today I came on to TH-cam because I wanted to see what people were using for their TWA's these days. Mine is several shades of gray, and several different textures throughout. I can't get a shine on my gray hair and that's frustrating. I will check out the Curldaze Gel tomorrow and see how that works. Nothing that I used before the chemo (hair products) works for me anymore because my curl pattern has changed so I'm still trying to "find myself" as they say. Thank you for your wisdom and for being you!

Miss Wanda, I hope you are doing well.
      I had a similar experience.
I went through radiation treatment and a lot of my hair came out.
When it grew back the texture of my hair was different.
Now it's sooo much kinkier and coarse than it used to be.
I'm struggling to take care of it now. I guess I'm going to have to learn.*ugh* #StrangerHair

Hey Girl Hey, God is so good. I recently big chopped again and after doing so I realized that I don’t like myself with short hair . However, I know realize that it’s from the negative comments that I received from 12 years ago when I big chopped before the natural hair movement took off. So with that being said, I love watching ur videos and seeing you with your short hair and looking beautiful. This truly has inspired me. I do plan on growing my hair back out. But, I’m not going to hide my God given hair under a wig while do so. Now I will occasionally rock a scarf bc I love the look but I’m not going to hide the women that God has created me to be. Thanks for the reminder Lil Sis and blessings and more blessings your way. 😊🥰

Rissa, this video speaks so much truth. From the stigma we grew up hearing about good vs bad hair. Took me a long time to figure out that all hair is beautiful and not everyone has the same “curl pattern” or type “a, b or c” hair. To this day I don’t know what type hair I have and I’m okay with that. My only issue is that I can’t seem to find the right products to enhance my curls (hair care junkie). So for now I just wear protected styles which suits my lifestyle perfectly as I workout 🏋️‍♀️ a lot. Thank you for talking about this. Moms please teach your children better. ❤❤❤

Your hair is beautiful. It is definitely true that beauty radiates from the inside out. I don't understand why with all we have been thru the past 2 years or so, we are still "mean girl" hating on each other. I am not super confident in doing my hair (never have been, hair has always been my Achilles heel). I love learning from people like you whose hair I admire. I think at different points, we like to look different ways. Sometimes I like to be all glammed up and sometimes I like to be completely natural...what's wrong with just celebrating who we are at whatever stage. That's one reason I love coming to your channel, you give us a little bit of everything. The one consistent thing that never wavers is your belief and trust in God. Keep doing you! Block the haters, you don't need the stress. Pray you and your family had a Happy Thanksgiving, and enjoy the rest of the holiday season. Also, February will be here before you know it. How are you guys going to ever pick another name as perfect as Elora? Her name is the perfect combination of both of your names. And to top it off, she is such a beautiful little girl...her spirit radiates from the inside. Love and Blessings!💕

I am so glad that I watched this video!! Everything you said truly resonated with me. I have been going back and forth trying to decide whether, or not to continue my short hair journey. And it boils down to allowing society, or people I know to dictate how I feel about myself based on my short hair. Unfortunately women can be mean to each other especially black women. I recently received a comment from a woman I know who said to me jokingly. "Why do you look like a dude?! I was not wearing makeup, and I had on a hoodie, and joggers with my short hair. I laughed it off but I thought to myself what is wrong with the way I look?! That day I was feeling so confident with my appearance I felt really cute, and happy with my hair. But what she said hurt me, and it made me feel less confident about myself. We have to be so careful with our words even when we think we are just kidding to the person hearing those words it may not be so funny. I just really want to thank you for sharing this video for one it helped me to realize that I am not the only one, and it also made me realize that I will never again let ANYBODY steal my joy, or my confidence!! Thank you for this video please do more like this. God bless you. ❤🙏🏼

Michelle, you are BEAUTIFUL just the way you are!!! Don’t let anyone convince you into believing the lie that you aren’t! I agree…words CAN hurt. Out of our mouths comes life or death - blessing or cursing. There’s no in between! Our words don’t know when we’re joking or when we’re serious so they’ll plant seeds either way. I’m sorry she hurt you by that comment but please don’t believe the lie!
Also…girl it’s ok to change your mind about your hair! But like you said, it all boils down to not allowing society or anyone make you feel a certain kind of way about YOUR decision. Follow your heart and most importantly…follow the Holy Spirit! I’m rooting for you 💕

Thank you for the one product for curl definition styljng. I'm new to wearing my hair natural, I've worn locs since 2013. I took them down in 2023, 10 years is the longest I ever stuck with one style, but locs are so versatile. It's more like locs are my hair and I styled my locs(hair). I could ware them straight, updo, ponytail and I could wear a ponytail or an updo10 different ways.
For a year I feel like all I've done us buy product and they are accumulating in my cabinet to the point I had to buy one of those wheeled carts for storage.
Also, I don't know what type of hair I have either, but I know it's about 3 types. My sides and front top of my head is in type, my crown and the top of the back of my head is another type and finally the back is yet another. So, when people start talking about type of hair, they lose me because I'm a 69 yo and I don't have time to waste on that conversation. I want something that's quick and sensible that my arthritic fingers can handle.
Finally, I'm glad to hear you talk about "real beauty" is internal, I believe most good things originate internally like joy and every aspect of the fruit of the spirit such as love, kindness, self control and goodness. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, wisdom and your faith, and thank you for caring enough to do so.
I'm going to bite the bullet and try yet another product and pray it accomplishes what I need. Either way that is the last new product I'll endeavor until my hair product cart is empty or I'm home, whichever comes first bc life's too short. 😊💯😆

I agree with you about washing more frequently. My hair is always healthier when I wash it more often. I know that tends to be a hot take in the hair community for whatever reason but for me I go by how my hair feels and the breakage is at a minimum when I am washing it 2x weekly. I have very very very thick hair and if it is not regularly moisturized, it will break.

You also made the technique of styling look so much easier and a lot less frightening 😩 I had a twa 15 years ago and it was a nightmare to manage. It would go down on my head like a mat when i wake in the morning, always tangle and was super hard to comb out even with hair softener 😢 I could only manage it with roller setting. Now I'm a lot less scared to try again because with time, local beauty stores now have more products available and I'll definitely try this technique after I cut my locs 🙏

When I released my hair from gels and heavy hydration products to make it stay in placed; it moved. Keep being who God created you to be!

My hair textures look similar to yours and I would also say the arrangement of the tighter curls are on my sides and the looser ones are more mohawk style in my hair. Like you said we are all different and even throughout our lives, things change. My hair texture has changed to become looser as I've gotten older due to hormones and scalp conditions. People always want to pigeonhole and we don't fit into neat little boxes as humans. ❤

ooohhhh lawd. I use a silk pillowcase as well. I don't like sleeping on a bonnet either. I also change it my pillowcases once a week as well. I'm also at a point where I don't want alot of products in my hair either. I want a real wash and go, wash, product, dry and go.

I think you are a kind person. Thanks for sharing. I just wanted to say hair type is very important for product that can be used on it. My hair is very course and dry, natural it's very thick. I can't use any kind of products. Congratulations on the baby

    • @LorissaNelson
      @LorissaNelson  ปีที่แล้ว

thank you! I have to disagree. All of the professionals I learn from say that hair typing has nothing to do with a product's effectiveness. Most of the time our hair is just dehydrated...

Don’t worry about the mean girl vibes, just do your thing. People sought out advice, so you give it to them based on your experience and hair; they can take it or leave it. I have watched three of your videos and understand your hair typing thoughts. I cut my hair back in the 90’s for the relaxed Halle Berry short bob and my beautician told me I had three or four grades of hair. I was never great with doing my hair and before the bob, I just wrapped it up in a French roll. In 2002, I went completely natural because I started going to the pool 2-3 times a week and wanted a wash and go hairstyle. That, and because I don’t like to do much…I am a bit lazy. I was looking for a modified version of my current haircut, and your style and advice on simplicity fits the bill. I doubt if I will go through the gelling of the hair, but will save that option for special occasions as I like the look. You have given me ideas on various products and simplicity so thank you for an informative video.

I completely understand everything you're saying about people questioning your curl pattern...I that all of the time because my entire texture is the same as your sides and I only use water and a gel (luster's short look) to define my curls.

Thanks so much for all your advice. I love my hair and natural too. Cut my hair in the 90's for health reasons at the time. But once I went and natural that was it. I've used and tried many Gels.. My hair will curl with water also, but sometimes I like to add a little gel to make it last are curl tighter. I been using S'Curl products. But for more natural I will try this product. It works quickly I see too. Let you know later. 👍🏽🙂

    You tutorials are excellent.
This is my personal opinion. Make sure you read up on what products are used in braids. I am from the old school and I wish I had listened to my mom about putting a relaxer in my hair. She was a cosmetologist that did not rally the relaxer trend.
I am 75 and it is a struggle for me that I have finally let the relaxer grow out. How I wish I had listened. Obedience is golden. I will try your method with one product because I had worn my hair short for over fifty-seven years. Continue to do what work best for you. We are all of God's children with different talents.
    Peace, Love, and Happiness.
