I have travelled roads like these in Sichuan in a Chinese tour group bus as the only foreigner on board 😀I visited Huanglong in 2015. It always amazes me how these villages survive economically. Every possible space used to grow the crops that enable them to survive and prosper. Such hard-working, busy people. I have lived a little like this in New Zealand on my own land for some of my life, it is not an easy life, but a natural life. The challenge for the Chinese government is to keep this going in the modern city dominated world and to persuade enough young people to carry on the work instead of them all moving to the cities. Many old villages like these, in my country, have died as all the young people have left.
