    It's good to see some proactive police activity on trespassers and gate-runners. Even if they were only given a verbal warning, walking or playing on active tracks is no joke. Where I worked, we only saw police take action after someone was hurt. Each of those cars weighs 286,000 lbs versus the 150-200 lb human body. It's no contest who will win in that situation. And usually in our incidents, the police were notifying the next of kin...

      @@midnight_x_edits 40 years ago, when I worked at a particular hotel, an employee came into work, very upset because he had seen a car accident. The two cars involved were a 1974 Ford Mustang II and a 1957 Chevy Bel Air. There is deep reverence among car enthusiasts for the 1957 Chevy Bel Air. And because you can't go to some car lot and just order another 1957 Chevy Bel Air, for some, it is a tragedy when a car like this is damaged or destroyed (because it is irreplaceable).
      A 57 Chevy is comparable to a 1959 Château Lafite Rothschild, or a Picasso painting or the Ocean Liner Queen Mary.

      The stop line is out of the field of vision of the camera for the truck, so it's impossible to say if he did or did not come to a full stop. But the El Camino obviously rolled the stop. Truck was also fully in the intersection before EC entered the intersection. I've got the feeling the EC was looking left at the train and not straight ahead. I blame the EC.

  • @bowlinerailfan
    @bowlinerailfan 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

    One thing I like the best about these grab bags is that they catch a lot of old fallen flag cars on here. Sometimes a fallen flag car doesn't even have a logo on it. I occasionally see cars marked for SCL (Seaboard Coast Line) along the CSX bowline, usually gondolas and some of those are marked maintenance of way. The Family Lines hoppers are also an occasional sight through here and every now and then also have SCL call letters. I've even seen a couple of cars marked for the C&O and one was even marked BO with a barely legible Chessie System logo on the side. (I'm not sure why it was missing the "&" between the B and O.) So the next time you're watching trains, check out the call letters by the car number. It might be an old car from one of your favorite fallen flags. Also, it's great to see many young people going to model train shows. Some people think it's a dying hobby, but as long as people like trains, there's sure to be people that will want to run model trains.

    • @J3scribe
      @J3scribe 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      BO is the actual reporting mark. B&O is an abbreviation used in lieu of the reporting mark, same as the C&O (reporting mark CO). & is not used in any official reporting marks, which are strictly letters.

    And as to the traffic crash in the middle of the intersection; The white work truck had already stopped and was waiting to turn Left. The El Camino failed to stop at the stop sign, probably because they wanted to get past the gates coming down. In any case, they should have yielded to the work truck turning left, making the El Camino driver at fault for the accident.
    This is an excellent lesson here, to slow down and be more patient as we drive. So many times people are in a hurry that they forsake safety to save a little time. Had the El Camino driver simply waited for the train, they probably would have made it to wherever they were going a lot sooner than they did! But the crazies will hate me for saying this and they will also be the next ones to get in an accident.

      The machine is a tamper used to lift the ties and the track - has vibrating fingers and mechanisms to lift the track, then the fingers go under and vibrate the ballast under the tie to fix it in place. The mechanism that looks like mast sections is used for "super elevation" - lifting one rail higher than the other in a curve to allow a train to run through a curve at a faster speed. One section is withdrawn and on top of the other - they will extend out when they get to where they need to work. You can see the the big black "board" on top of the tamper that is used to sight down the track to set the elevation while they are working. Complicated stuff but this machine is how they do it and maintain it.

      That would be great to go with a 6X Big Ten Curve meet! Also might work with the Sabre Dance!
