Yea but a Peregrine Falcon dives faster than the theoretical maximum impact velocity, its such a well designed bird it can achieve flight physics we still cannot.
Sergei Gridnev hes probably talking about terminal velocity. The terminal velocity is the falling velocity at wich the gravitational acceleration equals the deceleration due to air resistance. So its the fastest possible free fall speed in air. It is different for every object, and the falcons terminal velocity is obviously higher than the humans.
@@oggyoggy1299 The guy that was about to release the bird said he wanted to wait until he was sure it was ready to go on it’s own. I think he was yelling “wait” to the jumpers, but who knows. nah, the cheetah would be distracted by the smell of the lure following in its slipstream and wiggle the whole way down...the correct way to do this experiment is to strap the lure to an elephant and then throw the cheetah and the falcon after it...

What a beautiful stunning bird..Lucky enough to have a pair nesting every year in an old quarry behind our home. Their calls are just so ancient and unmistakable.
"well it isn't a definitive scientific experiment..." no, but you got the BBC to pay for a baloonride, a skydive jump and an afternoon of falconry... good on you Steve!
I've never heard any reports of it happening. Skydivers aim to have the canopy opened by 2500-3000 feet so that probably rules out many species of birds, I'm not sure what birds fly above that height.
I agree... that was cool, but I didn’t see the falcon catch them?? He said it did in seconds, but I didn’t see any evidence of it in the video. I think the video of the falcon was from a different sky diver.
Neat video. Fun. Lady is THE OG of fast flying. We base our wing designs on her, particularly the military winged aircraft with wings that sweep back for speed.
While climbing the Longs Peak trail in Colorado one section of trail traversed across a deposit of boulders & moraine debris...we kept hearing what sounded like arrows or bullets whizzing by over our heads...I stood watching to see what was making the noises and a Falcon whizzed by flying down the slope...we guessed 150 to 200 mph but didnt know exactly... Then they would fly up the mountain's chasm & out over the deposit slope... & do it again!! Must have been young Falcons playing😆 (I kinda kept my head down a little until we got off the deposit😒) We talked about returning someday with a radar gun to clock them but never did...
Comparing objects based on speed isn't really fair, otherwise the fastest wheeled vehicle is in the 1200km/h+ range, and the fastest "aircraft"(with human inside) is in the 30,000km/h+ range....then you go to the next step of power, and humans win outright. In terms of power:weight and complexity, the bird will win for a very long time to come.
if your having a race in the sky, why go in the stable position? it would be much faster to go head down, and they even have a pilot chute deployed that would slow them down even more! they weren't even trying!

We have a couple of Peregrines living and breeding on the roofs of skyscraper buildings in my city. They keep the pigeon population under control, and they're fun to observe. I watched one from a fourth story window take her kill to the top of a street light, and tear it to shreads. Brutal stuff.
Peregrine Falcons have been, in other experiments, clocked at around 220mph. They're absolutely incredible! Coincidence: I graduated from Bowling Green State University and the mascot of that university is the Peregrine Falcon; the Bowling Green Falcons!
I know birds have excellent eye sight, but thru all that distance, seeing the bird got the thing and was down on the ground soo quickly and having its well deserved snack that was amazing. What a super flyer that bird!😲👍🤣🦅♥️
"It's over three time faster than a cheetah" Well, if you throw cheetah out of a hot air balloon I'm sure the gap will be a lot smaller.
:D
a chetah cant hunt in freefall. peregrine falcons can dive on command for immpossible to dodge strikes at massive velocities.
Yea but a Peregrine Falcon dives faster than the theoretical maximum impact velocity, its such a well designed bird it can achieve flight physics we still cannot.

this video is very underrated. The amount of work involved must have been a mountain. Awesome to watch that falcon in flight
No. I think they used a hot air balloon. Not a mountain.

One of the MOST BRILLIANT experiments I've ever seen. Incredible, informative, fantastical. For sheer LOVE of that magnificent FALCON.
Check out "Dubai World Record Eagle Flight" - also fascinating.

So difficult to choose a most beautiful and powerful bird of prey.
But this guy is in my top three for sure.
Wow, that is awesome watching it dive in full control like that
Yeah we are gonna dive with parachute, cameras, goggles, insurance policy.
