Whenever I see someone playing blind, I always have that one show playing in my head where their crowd just looks like pure liquid when he let's out the "Are you RedAYYYYY"
you are the best out of the guitar teachers on youtube that i've found. dont get me wrong, others are great too but you.... you - really strike chord with me. pardon the pun. please do some Cake tutorials when you have time
Yo, I love that you showed love to HLEMET and Jeff Buckley! Dope! ALso, man, those are good formulas. SOmetimes we tend to think its these overly complicated things until we realize the riffs still stem from basic foundations. AGain, dope!
Great video. I like how you’re not using your teach to focus on one genre of music. It’s cool to see you’re using overkill ( my band just started covering electro-violence) helmet, cake, Jeff Buckley. I think it’s Important to show people that timing signatures like you showed in the video are done in all different styles. It makes it easier for people to get the grasp of that as well as to maybe turn them on to different sides to rock or metal. Thumbs up to you. Keep up the good work love watching your videos. Btw, you should post a picture of you looking like Robert smith back in the day, that would be awesome lol. Take care.
Lots of these songs remind me of other songs! "World of Hurt" --> "Ace of Spades" "Sex Type Thing" --> "Symphony of Destruction" (STP's "Vasoline" also has a LONG version of this riff haha) I LOVE CAKE!!! Especially their obscurities. 3:16 that look 🤣🤣 "Blind" --> "Get Down with the Sickness"
I always had the feeling that any riff that would syncopate against the drums would feel extremely groovy. The example I always use is Kashmir from Led Zeppelin, the 3/4 guitar against the 4/4 drums makes the steady beat of the drums feel heavier or easier to get along with. Great vid, you should do a video-explanation of this.
Jjajajaja that is one of my fav °love songs..!.! Pantera the Kings of Groove! The Cure...that same song I played with my first band, soon afterwards one of the guitar players died on an accident at 17 while excursioning with their school mates after graduating...So sad...=( He was the songwriter...a nice boy and great musician ..I will never forget those guys who put their confidence on me as a woman ,to be their bassplayer and composing mate.. Blue Carmin was my band..Thanks for sharing!
Disposable heroes breakdown riff also is a very good example for writing really groovy and heavy riffs. Although that one is grouped more in 3s not 2s, but that is a very good example of a groovy riff. Although most people I see play that riff focus to much on getting the right notes and not the right feel. That’s one of those riffs that unless you put all your power and aggression into it, it will sound bad. That is another lesson I’ve learned. Even when playing rather simple riffs, if you put a lot of aggression and power into the notes you play it will sound very, very heavy.
I literally choked on a piece of papaya when you started do play Jeff Buckley, I don't know why. Well, maybe because he's one of my all time favorite musicians. :)
Hi Mike I have recently just watched a couple of videos of guitar tricks and would like to say thankyou for these as I forgotten some tricks and you are inspired my playing better. I started playing guitar years ago usually as a hobbie mainly. Can I please ask yourself a video on drumming as I'm completely stuck with this as trying to make backing tracks. I don't know if I'm doing things right but I remember once someone saying drums when setted up can play in certain keys ex 145 on the tightness of the skin depending on singers vocals of key. I mainly want to know this so and I am using a app called caustic 3 which is worth its weight in gold as it is basically a music composer box. I usually keep myself to myself and trying out busking using a electro accoustic savannah a mooer ge100 for reverb delay chorus mainly. One of my main problems is that I seem to come up with is hitting bum notes when going electric from acoustically as hand strengh is good from years of practise not playing electric. I finding it hard at times trying to get certain sounds as when going through the pre settings most sound overpowering distortion with which I am studying as mainly its all trial and error mainly. Must remember pad and a pen when doing any work or for dropping down ideas any help or guidance would be very benifitual and how to use a looper basic tricks not worked on a looper beforehand so a lot to learn 😂 lol anyway thankyou for the videos uploaded and I have subscribed and pressed the likely button and hopefully get out busking in the near future thanks again 👍 😜
Working on the melody to a new song Suicidal Tendencies. Gonna play with this concept a bit. This song is a bit out of my comfort zone and is a rocker. That's the feel I get from it. I'm gonna try the double beat and see where it leads.
How is the rhythmic picking on the first one, down and up, hitting the string on down and up? Sorry for the non theoretical way of asking the question.
Everyone wants to be goth in high school because of the goth chicks, let's be real here. Edit: Oh yeah, this is a music channel. Uhhh, I like guitars. There, something on topic. Those goth girls though...
I'm not shocked that Pantera are mentioned a few times in a video about groove
He really left us hanging with the Can't Stop intro
Agreed
Isn’t Yousician technically driving away customers by saying that guitar is “slow and frustrating” ??
Well it is quite frustrating at first, but if you're prepared for that and if you really want to play, that won't bother you that much
why is this the top comment? relatable tho lmao
Whenever I see someone playing blind, I always have that one show playing in my head where their crowd just looks like pure liquid when he let's out the "Are you RedAYYYYY"
max That was Woodstock 99 bud
Really awesome for ensuring a Groove vibe to some killer rocking riffs! Awesome work my man as always!
You starting this with Overkill was something I wasn't prepared for.
Helmets Betty and Meantime are underrated legendary albums for me. OP snare sound too!
Also can't believe you saw Buckley live! What a privilege!
"All the cute girls were a bit gothy." XD
Big ups on the Helmet choice, BTW! There's no other band quite like them!
you are the best out of the guitar teachers on youtube that i've found. dont get me wrong, others are great too but you.... you - really strike chord with me. pardon the pun. please do some Cake tutorials when you have time
Ohhh Cake! I've only ever heard The Distance, forgot they even existed. Going to listen to some more now, thanks! 😃
So many great Cake songs. Never There was a big hit.

They have a killer version of I Will Survive, it's groovy as hell: th-cam.com/video/7KJjVMqNIgA/w-d-xo.html
Just found this last week- such a great and useful video! I’ve been creating all kinds of simple but super catchy riffs for the last few days
But honestly every pantera song has the groove... rip dime... getcha pull!!!
you are an awesome teacher, my dear mr.AoG
You should do a rhcp video about their style or whatever ::3

Brilliant.....loved the comments with the songs too!
Gold! Thanks a lot. 🎸

Goth girls are awesome ...most of them :-) wow No AC/DC?
so that’s why the bridge to jambi before the solo grooves so hard
I thought that was AIC at first, too. I remember buying In The Meantime on cassette.

I literally choked on a piece of papaya when you started do play Jeff Buckley, I don't know why. Well, maybe because he's one of my all time favorite musicians. :)

My Own Summer by Deftones should have been on the list.

Hell yea, I love Fascination Street
He has a world supply of riffs
Can you do a video on tremelo and gallop picking please?
Working on the melody to a new song Suicidal Tendencies. Gonna play with this concept a bit. This song is a bit out of my comfort zone and is a rocker. That's the feel I get from it. I'm gonna try the double beat and see where it leads.

*this love comes up*
Me: Oh I love this love...

Dr Feelgood also has a pretty sick pattern
What about Vasoline by STP? That's probably the most iconic 2 beat groove ever!
How is the rhythmic picking on the first one, down and up, hitting the string on down and up? Sorry for the non theoretical way of asking the question.
Jeff Buckley on a Jazzmaster? I think we just became best friends!
Right? That was unexpected & almost surreal it was such a pleasant surprise!
