I find this entire performance brilliant and moving. The narrative fleshes out the song’s meaning anti the musicians at this stage of things. Very compelling and a meaningful counterweight to the original version, which is still available.

All the new kids have such an allegiance to this song because they saw some DVD. Realize it was only played live ten times before this.

Jeez, what a contrast to the much better Zoo TV performance of this. While it's still better than a great many songs, they're kidding themselves if they feel this comes anywhere close to that performance.

Not particularly fond of this version, to be honest. I miss the solo at the end, and there isn't much singing either. Seems like a placeholder to wedge the father-son relationship in... If anything, it's nice to see Edge using his pedals again, since he barely uses them anymore (think how soulless Even better sounds now that the buzz sounds come from the underground). All in all, it's nice to see them experimenting, despite this one not feeling inspired enough
Yeah, I think they deserve (and need) a rest, even they've stated recently they want to. Only thing is that they're not getting any younger haha, but, it's probably for the best. In the end, we always hope to see them one last time for what they've done, and when the day come and they retire we'll certainly have outstanding memories (for dirty day, I'll keep the Zoo TV version haha).

Yo Manu (nombre del individuo detrás de Paul), crecí en un hogar en el cual mi madre fungía el papel de Mamá y Papá. No por abandono, pero por diversas causas, el contacto con mi Padre, quien no vivía en casa, era frecuente, no diario, pero aun así la figura paterna que yo seguí fue más por ejemplo de mi hermano mayor y por los consejos de mi madre. A mi padre lo sigo frecuentando, lo amo, y la relación con El, es buena, y hasta la fecha sigue siendo un gran ejemplo para mí. En esa parte me fue muy bien, he tenido un buen papá.
Por desgracia hay muchos casos que la relación Padre-hijo no es nada cordial, sobre todo en las veces en el que el jefe de familia, abandona a sus seres queridos.
Dirty day, es el track número 9 del disco Zooropa. El título proviene de una frase que el padre de Bono, Bob Hewson, solía decir: "Es un día sucio".
La canción es sobre un padre que deja a su familia y luego se enfrenta al hijo que abandonó. Bono dice que la canción fue influenciada por la actitud de su padre, pero no es su historia. La madre de Bono murió cuando él tenía 14 años, y fue criado por su padre a partir de ese punto en adelante. Su relación era dura y a veces distantes, influyendo en esta canción sobre el desapego emocional.
El autor Charles Bukowski, cuyo apodo era Hank, fue una influencia en esta canción. Al final, cuando Bono repite, "The days, days, days run away like horses over the hill” (Los días, días, días huyen como caballos sobre la colina), eso es una referencia a la colección de poesía de Bukowski de 1969, The Days Run Away Like Wild Horses Over the Hills.

U2 nos sorprendió estas últimas 2 fechas en Dublín en la gira Experience + Innocence 2018 al interpretarla tan maravillosamente tal y como hace 25 años.
Es por eso que procuro ser el mejor padre para mi hija, el mejor amigo, la persona con la que se sienta segura hoy que es una nena de 2 años y cuando tenga muchos muchos años más.

Come on ye trolls, just let the band perform their work their way and explain what its about if they want to. "They" because Bono is the mouthpiece during shows, and he doesn't talk bullshit about the band or their families.
Instead of complaining, go listen to some late Zoo TV shows or just handle the U2 of 2018 and say, "Thanks for still dreaming out fucking loud."

Geez, all of you bitching about this are ridiculous. I don’t remember complaints of Bono talking over The Ocean in the earlier days of the tour. Here, they found a way to replace the Zoo Station intro speech with not only a better speech, but also a seamless transition directly into ZS, all while “dusting off” this great tune (which was only played, what, like 12 times on the ZooTV tour?).
Exactly. We really didn't hear "The Ocean" here in the U.S. due to Bono's talking either. I can understand some of the disappointment (particularly regarding the missing second verse), but the running themes evident in the tour were great. This commentary is moving and helps explain the idea of regaining (a chastened) innocence after experience. And for those complaining about Bono's voice, yeah, it's obviously not as good as it used to be -- a natural byproduct of growing older. It's still pretty darn good regardless.
The Ocean is shit and lasts about 90 seconds on record. This is a 6 minute version of Dirty Day where they play about 40% of the actual song while Bono rambles on about his dad again. They butchered it and its frustrating as it such a good song. If they w

Barry Rowlings I more than agree that the ZooTV version was mindblowing, but, as I said, it was barely even ever played on that tour. It’s being in the Live At Sydney dvd, I think that many fans erroneously think that it was a live staple. It wasn’t. It never was.
As I said, this serving as an intro to Zoo Station is far better than the speech that Bono gave before. I’m not arguing that it’s better than the ZooTV version (no defender of this performance is making that claim); I’m just arguing that this is far far far better than the ninnies are complaining about.

Performances like this are why I love the band and (most of) their music, but not the frontman. Dirty Day is a stunning rare gem, and it's barely allowed to shine because Bono can't stop talking about himself.

This is truly and utterly dreadful. For a recorded track that can boast possibly one of the greatest ever bridges U2 has written, I am utterly disappointed with this. A fan of over 25 years now so it's hard to see this putrid version.

I never pay more than $50 to see U2 LIVE even tho thats a hell of a challenge to do so. However since 2nd visit at ATT Stadium, Bono did the same shit, talked thru songs and forgot words and ruined several songs. They even fucked the intro to WTSHNN. I most likely won't even jump thru the hoops to get a $50 ticket or less if they return. If your too old to keep up with the Stones, retire wealthy and stop milking fans!!
