'Maskulin' & 'Thunder Child II' in storm

- Here is a pretty cool little video of the rough weather sea trials of our XSV20 'Thunder Child II' and Interceptor 48 all weather pilot boat 'Maskulin'. Undertaken with her owner Tommy Fonnes during a violent storm that hit the South Coast of Ireland a few days before, and in preparation for his 850nm North Sea Winter delivery voyage to Norway. We captured some great footage of both boats as they faced the sometimes challenging conditions.

As someone with little experience on boats, but lots of experience watching videos of boats in rough seas, that was impressive.

The amount of green water over the bow those boats can take is incredible.
This is going to sound so minor, but I’m actually impressed buy the windshield wipers. That is a heck of a lot of force on them when going through or getting hit by a wave, and they absolutely need to stay functional in those conditions so you can see.

That front hull design has to be the coolest and most ingenious thing I've seen on a boat in a long time😍
It's called a "hatchet bow," and it's very tricky to get just right.
A lot of WW1 warships were shaped like that.
Imagen you live in that yellow boat and when you hear that a storm is coming every captain panics and you are going to play with a big smile.

These are exceptionally well built boats.
Reckon those purple lights gave it the increased structural rigidity needed.

I was an engine manufacture's tech on a builder's trial on a 44 foot pilot boat on the UK south coast when the coxwain drove it through a big'un - green water way up above the wheelhouse windscreen - the boat just shook itself like a dog and carried on - I went back to my dials and gauges down the engine space for'ard - nice and warm down there!

Heavy loads on that glass. Thick and laminated I presume. Still, I would have a hard time not flinching with that wall of water coming at me.
ANd how do those windshield wipers keep from getting mangled or shearing off?

I’d like to see what would happen with the stability if there was some sort of sailboat keel that could be deployed when in deep water and very rough seas that could be retracted when not needed maybe a hinged foldaway design?

Boat builders can tell you what ever they want . But your videos speak for themselves That you are willing to take these boats out in that snot speaks to hull integrity , stability and performance . Like I have heard in the past ," put up or shut up " you sir have gone way beyond PUTTING UP . " A pictures worth a thousand words ".

I would like to see her in the sea off Cape Town South Africa with a force 12 gale. That would be epic and a great test of her sea worthiness. Awesome vessels but Thunder-child is tops and has the most beautiful lines.
