I think Burt Reynolds is the ONLY character Norm can do that isn't just Norm
Harrison McKinney. He friggen nailed it!!!
His Quentin Tarantino is on point.
Norm wrote this skit literally to do the impression.
It’s crazy to see the first episode and how it progressed into easier and easier clues and Sean being more and more raunchy about Trebek’s mom.
I just recently saw the later ones and compared to those, this one seems very tame and dare I say normal.
"Well Trebek, what is the difference between you and a Mallard with a cold? One is a sick Duck. I can't remember how the rest of it goes but your mother is a WH!"

Norm was the one who originally came up with the idea to parody Celebrity Jeopardy, without him we wouldn't have one of the funniest reoccurring sketches on SNL. RIP, Turd Ferguson!
It's my favorite skit. I didn't know he wrote the original ones. Sean connery wordplay is timeless.
Actually Eugene levy came up with the original parody years earlier and Norm asked for his permission before doing it on SNL I remember reading it somewhere

Notice how Sean Connery is just stupid in the first ones... whoever came up with the antagonistic relationship between Sean Connery and Alex Trebek is a genius!!!
From what I recall, he just wanted any sketch to show off his Burt Reynolds impression.

That's the moment the audience realized that the joke was going to be how stupid celebrities are.
That was also the moment Alex realized he was in for a rough time.
All except Connery. Who is smart but instead just fucks with Trebek.

Norm pretty much reprised his Burt Reynolds character as Little Chubby on My Name is Earl, where his character’s father - Big Chubby - was actually played by Burt Reynolds himself

I heard Norm on Stern today and he said one thing he finds funny about his Burt character is how all the other characters are the modern day version, Burt is 70's Burt. Lorne Michaels wanted to do the Burt Reynolds from Boogie Nights but Norm insisted on 70's Burt. RIP Bandit

I knew Reynolds from FSU when I was a PE major. He wasn't considered a handsome guy on campus; no heads were turned as he walked by (the moustache was the Hollywood make-over),. and that wise-guy chopped patter was a media thing he developed. He wasn't a bright guy; I know I was in two of his classes!

Subtle humor is the best. The blank spaces an audience fills in their mind will always be funnier than a scripted joke, it's more personal.

He's not a funny guy, on his own. Playing a small list of characters in short skits, like Harry Cary, he was....humorous, but never really very funny. Kevin Hart has the same issue, but he can't even imitate ANYBODY!

Norm and Darrell are the most underrated SNL members ever
RIP Norm MacDonald. The Celebrity Jeopardy skits were his idea, primarily so he could do his Burt Reynolds impression. (The idea was eventually to have the REAL Burt show up, kick Norm off, then take his place, but being even more irritating to Alex than Norm-as-Burt.) But then Norm got fired from SNL, and "Sean Connery" became the showcase. (All in all, it worked out fine, though there was something about good old Turd Ferguson that was missed in later installments.)
Well at least they got the Real Trebec to come on before he passed.

@@ihavefallenandicantreachmy2113 Martin Short was the host of the episode. (The episode in question was from 1996; Martin Short had been a cast member for the 1984-1985 season, but left at the end of the season, with the entire cast being replaced for the 1985-1986 season.)
From what I understand, if Norm hadn't been fired, Burt Reynolds might have popped in for one of the sketches.

The hatred between Trebek and Connery began on this episode, I guess...
Hammond said he tried to do an ACCURATE impression in this one, and then just tried to be funny in subsequent episodes.... but the hate definitely started here.

last night I decided to watch this because of Norm's perfect impression of Burt Reynolds. When I heard today that he had passed on from this life, it broke my heart. What an underrated and talented man. I rarely cry over celebrities but I feel Norm was so genuine. I will miss you, Sir.
I didn't think I could physically cry from the passing of a celebrity I never met. However, Norm proved me wrong. The world lost a bright spot.

Well, we can certainly rule out the Bible as a credible source, since it makes several claims that contradict science, history and logic.
As for whether a so-called "afterlife" is an actual thing, no one could possibly know for certain.
I remember once seeing an episode of the actual Jeopardy where all of the categories were replaced with the joke categories from these SNL skits. I wish I could find a clip of it.
