      Usually I do. No need today, I just looked at a 2009 sport 2.2 diesel auto, as I am in the market for a mid size, economical, comfortable sedan/wagon on a limited budget, to do regular long trips in and hadn't considered an X Type before. Great timing for this video, but now I'm a little concerned about the diesel reliability and rear seat room/access. P.S I'll probably just end up getting a VW Passat.

    Nice to see a positive review of the X type. I've got a 2002 2.5 petrol AWD X -Type and I love it. I did a lot of research before I bought it which I think is a must before you buy any motor. I paid less than a grand for it 18 months ago and all I've had to replace is 1 worn tyre! I've probably been very lucky but there are bargains out there. For anyone wanting that feeling of luxury on a relatively low budget, I would highly recommend trying out an X-Type for size. You could do much worse!

    My x-type was the best car I’ve ever owned. Absolutely adored it. For an entry level car it had presence. I preferred it to the S type. Handled beautifully on winding country roads. It’s still in the family, being driven around the mountains of Scotland, I missed it the moment I passed it on.

The 3.0 V6 engine in the X Type is very good but barely any more economical than my current 5.0 Jag! Save an extra couple grand and pick up an early XF instead or even just find a good S Type

    Lovely car. I bought a 2.1 V6 17 years ago and still run it. Had a Mondeo before, worked for Ford at the time and got a good deal on this new Jag. They both drive well, but you feel you're in the Jag and on the Ford. Funnily watching this review has made me appreciate just how good a car it is. Mine's held out well at 140K but a bit of sill and rear axle rust on the advisories last MoT. 24MPG around town FML. Ulez compliant though, which is a major purchase consideration for us in and around London. Love this channel, thanks for all you do!

      Good to hear from a likewise owner of a 2.1ltr X type. You are one of lucky ones who got the most practical model. Too many people go for speed and performance, thanks to "Top Gear" This car Could have been a better car with a 2.5ltr 4 cylinder engine. But the buyer wanted the V 6 and the result was they got a over cramped engine bay.

    Great video thanks Matt. My first Jag was an X Type 2.1 V6 and probably the most reliable car I've owned I loved it! I had mine for nearly 12 years and sold it with 195K on the clock - still going strong' only issues I had was a fuel pump and a couple of o2 sensors other than that just routine service items. Being a 2.1 it wasn't the quickest but a great long distance cruiser. The Mondeo jokes become very tedious particularly as the X Type only had about 20% Ford components mainly suspension and brakes. Why don't Audi's get the same stick as many share a lot of components with VW's and even Skoda's ?!!! I think there is an event at the British Motor Museum Gaydon this summer to celebrate the X Type's 20th anniversary - hoping to go although sadly no longer an owner!

    As someone in his 60s, I would have been quite happy with a 3L awd back in the day. It looked like a smaller version of the XJ6/8 of the time. With a diesel, a retune would be first on the list. Ok, first retune I looked at boosts the engine from 96Kw to 128Kw, or 128 to 158 Hp. Torque from 330Nm to 380+. That would make it a lot more fun. I currently drive a c220cdi with 125Kw, and it is great at that level.

    I had one of these for 2 years, 2 litre diesel, loved it, even though it cost me a small fortune in repairs during that time. The clutch was the biggest expense. Fitting cost about £200, but the parts, which at the time were only available from Jaguar, cost about £800. Also had a 3 litre S Type, which was surprisingly reliable, given what you hear about jags from that era.

    • @thomasgray5406
      @thomasgray5406 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why must it have an auto? I've got a mint 55 plate 2.0d SE, just 60K on the clock, one reason I avoided the 2.2d is that I don't like autos (or at least not that era which sap torque from what is already a modest output in diesel guise), apart from not wanting a dpf. I like the extra controllability of a manual. Overall, X Types aren't quite up there with Beamers and Audis of the same era but they aren't far behind.

    Great review, I loved my 2004 X type 3.0 sport manual, very reliable, I searched nationwide over the last year for a 3.0 X type manual of any year in the United States and there were none, there were two 2.5 L five speed manual, non sport package. The 3.0 was not fast and the clutch was a bit heavy but it was fun, sadly we did not get the facelifted version that you got in the UK as it was very handsome, and it got the new transmission, A ton of updates and the beautiful steering wheel that Jaguar used in the first generation XF which was so much nicer than the previous one. They always looked great in silver, and those rims are very unique, it’s just so weird that a lot of reviews I watch of any jaguar new and old it will be the top trim but no sunroof just like this X type, strange…

      Both are great cars, back in that time I was just hitting my senior year of high school and I was working hard and I bought a X type 3.0 sport five speed, with the Aruba 18 inch rims it was so unique, but you had a lot of choices back then, and both the three series and the B6 Audi A4 were beautiful, I think that the A4 aged the best but they are all great looking cars to this day.

    The new logo & colour scheme look great. Also I've always appreciated the X type but the only thing about it is that if you want the full and proper Jag experience, you need to have the auto with the V6. If you drive a manual with a diesel engine, you may as well be driving the Mondeo.

    Must admit I was surprised to see it was a manual but then heard your comment that "Jags should be automatic"! Totally agree. When I was growing up, my Dad always had a mk2, & he always went for the automatic. Having said that, the car looks to be in good nick for a 59 reg.

    • @nicholasbabeaux2052

      It was the first and only manual jaguar ever produced, I assume that the UK got a lot more manuals than the US, they are so hard to find. I have been looking for a 3.0 X type sport five-speed for years just like the one I had back in the day and I’ve only found several 2.5 L manuals, it wasn’t the best clutch but it was much more reliable than the automatic, and the 0 to 60 time with a 3.0 manual was under seven seconds where the automatic was like 7.5.

    I bought a 2.2 diesel Sovereign trim X-Type brand new in 2008. My first and only new car buy. I’ve never regretted it and still have it today. It drives really well, much better than my Landrover Freelander 2. Not much has gone wrong over the years, injectors were replaced FOC by Jaguar when just out of warranty. Electric windows and central locking have some minor issues but otherwise all good. I still think it’s a good looking motor and will probably keep it until it falls into a heap of rust.

Paid £100.00 for it and got that back from the local scrap yard 12 months later. A year of pretty much free motoring.
