    The unsung hero of this is the PBSwiss bit block, probably the best bit holder you can get IMO. I must have about 25 of them! 🤣

    The issue I have with flip sockets especially with that adaptor is that anything close to an obstruction you can’t get to. This is especially an issue on vehicles. You are not saving much, if any, space with the adaptor and three flip sockets versus six regular 1/4 drive sockets (and really 5 because who needs 7mm on the regular). One tool I have found that I have not seen anyone actually review is the matador flip screwdriver. It is, I think, similar to what comes in German cars but has the 8mm and 10mm sockets in the handle. Sadly not available in the US.

    • @Dracomies
      @Dracomies  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think at that point I'd use the Knipex. It can tackle that situation but not as easily as with actual sockets. There are also 3 inch versions of the adapter because they're the same as Klein: www.amazon.com/dp/B09R2L4GFJ? I might be misunderstanding your statement - but I'm willing to bet a Knipex could do it

  • @knghtbrd
    @knghtbrd 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Pleased to note that if you like the color coding, Klein has a metric version of the flip sockets now. I normally consider the Knipex water pump pliers overkill and "fast fashion fad" for EDC because people often carry them with a multitool that has pliers or with a multitool without pliers to be "smaller" (but then add the big pliers!) But then I also consider "EDC" to be the stuff YOU carry on your person, not "in my truck" or whatever.
    Even so, if you're building e.g. a car kit or a "go bag" of some sort where the tools are just one of many things you need to pack, but you don't want to be without them … the kit you've built using them seems like a good option! It's not a bad tool-quite the opposite actually-but most people showing them off have them to photograph and as pocket jewelry, which makes them kind of overhyped in a crowd of people who mostly aren't gonna use them. In the right context though it's hard to say you could find much better!
    I have the Wiha double-ended bits. Annoying that you literally cannot get the bit reload for security screws on Amazon, nor currently is that Centrifix extension available. The SlimFix isn't quite deep enough to be a tight hold either unless you're prepared to drill it out a bit and install a magnet a little deeper. And I'm not. I'd recommend for a kit like I described that you skip the Wiha bits entirely and just use the ones from the Steinwhale kit. Possibly with the PBSwiss bit holder instead of the one that comes with the Steinwhale kit.

      @Dracomies  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Klein Metric just came out, which was clutch, and yep, I grabbed one! On Knipex, I disagree with the naysayers. $30 might seem steep for a tool, but it’s nothing compared to what people spend on EDC gear like pocket knives or prybars. In the mic world, $30 is a drop in the bucket! And honestly, the Knipex is just a killer tool. I’ve seen so many kits that could drop five tools just by adding a Knipex.
      For most people, it covers the need for adjustable or open-ended wrenches-a better minimalist option than those tiny Crescents. A plumber even told me that a Knipex 125 or 180 could replace a whole socket set for general use.
      So, TL;DR: $30 is worth it. My 6-inch Knipex handles all kinds of odd jobs and even outperforms Leatherman multitools (though I get the appeal of their versatility). Knipex is worth every penny.
      And great call on the double-sided Wiha bits-I’ve gone back to the Wera Toolcheck Plus. I even keep it under my car seat now! It’s so handy, my hands just naturally go for it. I customized it by removing duplicates and bits I don’t use, and it’s now my go-to.

    I think I may have found a better option than the Topeak ratchet to pair with the Steinwhale extender/bit kit. Check out the aluminum Titan 11317 swivel ratchet bit driver. The steel one weighs over 3 oz but the aluminum (colorful) versions weigh less than 2 oz.

    Great EDC! It's great to see life differences shown in tools. I work with larger machinery so 180 sizes and Leatherman Charge is acceptable. As well as a Crunch for vice grips/replaceable saw. That ratchet is something I've never seen and looks great. Would be interested in seeing the torque it will take. A standard 10mm wrench reefing on it may break it. It may not be applicable to your needs so no stress. All in all very cool. Thank you for sharing.

      Oh I agree with you 100%!! It’s super fun and interesting to watch everyone’s EDC kits. :D It does give you a glimpse into their lifestyle. As for the RocketLite DX. I saw it on a ton of bicycle videos but I like it a lot! I don’t know the extent of its limits but it does have a good amount of torque. Though I think for something hardcore it may not be able to handle it.

    It's good to see that you're still adapting your kit. Never Stop : )
    It does seem like there's a real dearth of compact EDC saws. I think Victorinox saws are great but I hesitate to use them because they don't feel disposable... and I wouldn't attempt cutting metal with them. I've seen some decent DIY jigsaw handles but none with integrated blade storage. Maybe I'm asking for too much.

    • @Dracomies
      @Dracomies  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh I definitely don't cut metal. I can't recall ever cutting metal in my life :D But for the occasional blocks of wood or branches I like using Vic saws. But I think that's the realization on my end, I don't think I use saws, they're probably the least-used tool for me - which is why I like the Walker because it is the saw by itself in the 1 out of 878 chance I need to use one :P Rather than it being something forever connected to some clunky multitool that is lugging around weight for nothing :P

    Which version of the Wiha bit reload kit did you get? I think that a combination of the Technician, and Industrial offers the most sizes, but there will be a lot of duplicates. Sadly, Wiha no longer offers the bits individually, if they did, you could get the Technician set, and just buy the extra hex ones.

    • @Dracomies
      @Dracomies  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Both! But yes you get duplicates but I removed the duplicates, kept them in a small ziploc bag. If you value torx more for pocket knives and such one of them focuses on that. If you want the Hex for putting together Ikea furniture, Aeron Miller chairs etc they have one that focuses on that. I found that it wasn't an either/or situation but just both. This kit in this video isn't the most price-optimized but it's definitely weight/volume focused :D

      Id have to disagree. Its all about your life, preference, and balance for what you are willing to carry on your person. I carry a knife, flashlight, and hank; but also a pouch that has small tools and first aid. I chose a pouch so I can easily remove it put it in a designated bag with tools and other bigger items I might need. So yeah, balance, preference, and versatility 👍
