Literally stay away from Genshin "players" from all major social media. They are posers and losers alike. TH-cam has the most sane ones but they're still pretty bad when all they watch is Hoyo content creators. And I'm referring to almost all of those CC's btw. The ranters, the suck ups and the fence sitters. A lot of them are not very good content creators and their communities inevitably become a reflection of that and it is not healthy for players in the slightest.
Now actual players of the game? Pretty normal. I played co-op for about 2 years since launch and met numerous people who were all generally chill. And I don't mean I played about an hour with them and left. We would play for awhile, I'd sometimes help them or we'd just hangout and screw around for a long period of time. The only reason I stopped is because Genshin never improved co-op beyond some incredibly minor things so it no longer became worth it to use. Plenty of people dropped Genshin or simply chose to play alone because again, Genshin's co-op is so minimalist that you wonder why they even bothered adding it. But I met lots of good people from parents to students to teachers and people from all over the world. I tried to help plenty of em and they've helped me sometimes. Now most people keep to themselves and just go around asking for resources, completely isolated from the internet madness that Genshin goes through on a daily basis thanks to these so called "fans". HSR is already showing signs of something similar and it doesn't surprise me

The only people who think gatekeeping is bad are people who know they have bad intentions and should be kept out
The purpose of keeping the gate is to keep KNOWN ENEMIES out of the city, any law abiding citizen would be completely fine and would be unaffected because an actual fan can never BE gatekept
Not even in a "No true Scottsman" way but simply that if you like One Piece for example no rando on the Internet can stop you from watching or reading it, no one can stop you from lurking in your Oshi's chat, no one can stop you from ordering Gunpla kits and building them in your own room (only your parents have that power) nothing can stop you from enjoying something outside of it's fandom
If someone thinks they could be gatekept it's because they have zero interest in the thing they only want the appearance of being involved with it thus will never engage with it on their own because they NEED people to see them otherwise it's pointless
And if they don't care about it then they're more than willing to destroy it

As someone who went to anime cons since I was in middle school, I loved that shit. I went to one more recently (as a grown ass man in my 30s), and I couldn't put my finger on it, but it felt so...odd. It's hard to describe. The vibe at anime cons up until the mid-2010s (the bulk of the normie influx is pretty recent), was basically just "We are cringe but we are free." Anime was still kinda niche with a few exceptions, so it was a chance to indulge in our own nerdy shit without being judged by people who weren't of that community. It just feels very sterile now that so many people who aren't even really into anime getting into cons. And hey, if you're new to it, that's great! But the issue does come in when people come to a community and then immediately try to change it. Come to embrace the community, not fuck it up for everyone who was there before you.

I am so glad to hear my sentiments being echoed in Muyu. I'm also old enough that anime was very niche and looked at pretty poorly when I got into it as a kiddo. The last anime convention I went to, it was so full of people who clearly barely give a shit about the culture. Probably 50% of the merch was Genshin or Honkai... And then the VTuber concert was overflowing (the room wasn't even half full the year before) and some people talked the entire concert and were super rude too, like bruh just leave. It is unfortunate because I am super passionate about anime and talking about it to new peeps is super fun, but I don't want this kinda crowd joining in 💀
Also furries aren't necessarily part of the anime community, but I think Muyu used it as a segway because they get made fun of by people who don't understand when they could just be left alone instead.
