Great interview!! Really amazing explanation about the evolution of the game and the design. Rick seems so nice. The father of modern miniature wargaming!

Are there points costs for this game? I vaguely remember looking into Black Powder and not seeing points, which was a turn off for many of my friends.

I haven't actually read my copy of 2nd edition yet, but if it is anything like 1st ed (which it seems to be a case of evolution rather than revolution from what I have skimmed, though I could well be wrong) then probably not as such, give that the whole intent of BP was to consciously NOT be that sort of game. The same was true of Hail Caesar and Pike & Shotte.
That said, several of the period specific supplements for all of them made provision for a points system if people required it.

Ive played BP and enjoy it, but I have to agree w/ "Danny Boyo's" unstated point.
Just as you've learned one set of rules, along comes a "new" version.
Listen VERY carefully at 11:13 in the interview, turn up your volume if you must for this.
Rick himself says: "The rules are essentially NOT changed." Then why buy them?
Those of us, of the 'fixed income group', cant afford to play 'chase the latest version" every 2-3 yrs. With that in mind consider this; The core bk ($48) , to get more "war specific" rules, i.e., the Anglo-Zulu wars, the avg. supplement ($32), now your at $80. JUST for rules.
For the same price, I preordered John's "Cruel Seas" and got the complete Starter set, rules and all.

For once just tell us the truth. Why come out with a new edition. Sales! Sales! The sales of the previous version have just about stopped. To keep our company progressing we need to put out a new product with old clothes.
Now I won’t fault you. Cause I’ll probably buy it. But just give us the subtle nod/wink.

kenneth p I mean I believe new rules need to come out.
They’re not games workshop, so they arnt doing it to be money grabbing I don’t think. If they wanted to do that they would make more supplements not a core rewrite

Perhaps I am wrong, perhaps I am bitter, but this is. Games Workshop style!!!
Half baked rules, You have to buy Black Powder, then buy this.. then buy that, come on, Not Games Workshop in name only!!!
They suck you in with great pictures and great mini's and deliver a game not fully playable in any of the time periods!
Don't get me wrong probably the miniatures anywhere! Would be better served producing mini's. Leave rules making to people who want to put out rules that players enjoy.. not have to buy another book!
Black Powder requires several editions if you want to get into Napoleonic time period for example.
I did not purchase Black Powder, my son did. I swore off GW a long time ago, and will never go back.
I have heard it all, Not that bad 8 rules revisions in 42 years. WHAT?
yeah some may except that but the system gets broken every 2 or 3 with Codex changes!
Some of what you purchased can't be used anymore.
Anyway, a rant was not intended but I feel very strongly on this.
Roll your dice and move your mice.

By all means use it if you like it.
However there are several GW guys writing and pushing it.
No joke, how many other rules sets do you need to buy one after expensive rules sets to get even close to something playable.
I started into Napoleonic's, after decades of ACW because my son got into it. BTW he steered me into 40K too, another total fail as a rules set.
There are many rule sets out there that have endured multiple decade with just two or three revision.
When my son and I got into Napoleonic gaming there were no less then 3 updates already. I am thinking around 5 revs at this point.
GW, and Warlord game, IMHO, are one in the same.
Hey man, have fun playing whatever game system you like. I would be amiss, after 50+ years of wargaming, not to share my opinion!
BTW, GW makes the very best miniatures, or which I have hundreds!
      Be Well,
      Tony

@@Johnny-qh5wv Many of the same people and no difference. Untried rules and endless updates.
How much do you need to spend to play Napoleonic period?

    • @tonylamorte7247

Well Tim, I feel I am entitled to my moneys worth. If that is to much to expect then I don't know what else to say here.
The rules are, as mentioned in Black Powder, a foundation, guess I need to finish the structure. Then came Albion Peninsula, then Albion 100 days, okay, now I am in for around $100. Complete set of rules... No.
We have not even touched on their miniatures, which is over double of some other manufacturers.
I know they need to make money but there are lots of ways to do it.
How about expanding the miniature line, you know multiple poses.
Anyway, I am not looking for a fight here.
Hell, if you like the rules as is and have that much disposable cash. Enjoy them man, have fun!
