Since this video was made, we built a 300 SF shop specifically for making caskets. See that video here: th-cam.com/video/JQYySTfivqM/w-d-xo.html. Such a relief to not be in the dingy old garage - and now my wife can park her car in the garage (fancy that!).
After leaving school way back in 1945 I went to work for Wheatley Funeral Director's in Birmingham England. I was a coffin maker, the design being different to your's. The top's and bottom's were the same, the sides at the shoulders however were different. The bend for the shoulders were done by cutting about 15-20 grooves into the sides where the shoulder's would go. The timber was bent to fit the top's and bottom's of the coffin. Your design was simple but effective. As you can imagine the English way of doing it gave the coffin a smooth classic look. But which ever design is used the occupiers could not care less. My regards, Bob Harrison Aged 92. An Auzy bloke.
Thank you, from the heart, for the video and the plans. Just a few weeks ago, I made a coffin for a person who was slowly growing wings, and has now fallen asleep in the Lord. It was such an honor and a grace to make someone's resting place!
Lol...that's the most diplomatic one I've ever heard, and bright, hopeful too...(slowly growing wings). Amen. We have a Hope and a Future, let's share it.
That was a one-of-a-kind coffin, made almost entirely from scraps from a remodel project I did. I'm sorry, I don't have plans for it. I do still have it available for local pickup in Colorado.
You'll need about 16 boards at 1"x6"x8', plus a little wood glue and drywall screws. Should be able to tally that up by looking at pricing at your nearest hardware store. Best of luck!
I'm making one out of request from my dad. He doesn't have to much longer. But my concern is his size, he's a very large man. About 6'9'' 450 lbs. Is this coffin design sturdy enough?
I've tested our rectangular version of this to over 650 pounds with no issues, so I think as long as it's well built, it should be fine, but you may want to add some additional reinforcement. Also, securing the lid in more places will add strength.
Mom requests a simple pine box. Do you have dimensional plans for this. My mother is only 4'10". It is her request for a simple burial. (She wants to mitigate the expenses of her funeral.) She has charities that she thinks they can use money more than the expense of her funeral. (I'd like to add some of the Silk Blankets & Pillows that she has in life into the coffin.) She is still alive @ 91 years. (Expensive linens that need expensive care are NOT a good gift to charity IMHO.)
Sounds like your mom has a good plan for a simple burial (and that's great that she's still alive at 91!). I can send plans via email (either for this or a simpler rectangular box). Just go to my website (naturescasket.com) and shoot me an email.
thats exactly what i want for my coffin, and i will make it this summer for when i go heaven and get put in the dirt six feet under.i would really like to see the inside with some comfort for a body with some purple for GOD silk or something like that and a pillow so i can go in style and be at least comfortable, its not the eighteen hundreds ya no,but love the vid to pieces.i love pine trees
But will all cemeteries allow these great, hand-wrought coffins in? Many of them restrict you to using only approved "Big Mortuary"-made caskets and headstones. Total price fixing scam!
We've made about 500 caskets - I've never had a cemetery that hasn't allowed one of our caskets. Many do require vaults (plastic or concrete enclosures that go around the coffin to keep the ground from slumping). There are more and more green cemeteries popping up - you can find a list at www.GreenBurialCouncil.org.

Thanks for posting that video. I want to build a much smaller version for my beloved Parrot who died suddenly. this is a big help bless you 🙏
awesome build I will start building for my extended family and those that can not afford to as they cost a lot from funeral homes cheers
I don’t know why, but I found this interesting. You are gifted when you can build something from nothing.

It's a the inner child's passion.
Always wanted a coffin bed
Excellent work, appreciate your video/knowledge/respect for the trade man
Would be awesome to see how you do the upholstery on the inside of the casket.
thanks Poppa, got me a 6 month head start for all hallows eve:)
Thanks for that idea the way you constructed it, how much will be that
The materials are $150-200.
"different angles for each one". That's great. What are the angles?
Hmmm, guess you should've watched the whole video. Try 10:00
I am making one for halloween to scare the kiddies or for the covid, whichever comes first.
you should do a updated video for this!
The Undertaker (WWE) Would be damn proud of you ! Great job!
Love Undertaker lol 😆
You showed us an 8 hour job in 10 mins. Looks good, finish is perfect.
I thought it would be great to make one of these as a gun case, a bit like The old Django movie machine gun coffin. Fantastic build by the way.😊
A friend of mine who is a cowboy action shooter did that and it's pretty neat.
I'm trying to build this for a music/tech video such a weird blend
What style is the coffin shown at 10:24 to 10:28? Are plans available?

Staining mine black and placing upright on deck with shelves for liquor cabinet, glasses, grilling tools... To go with the gargoyles.
Very nice job. No linings?
Yes, we provide optional lining, but most people prefer to use a favorite blanket or quilt
That is such a noble profession.
It looks wonderful! Question: how heavy is the finished product would you say?
Thank you. These are about 100 pounds, depending on how dry the wood is.
Thank you so much for the plans! 🎉⚰️
Simple and beautiful.
How much time did it take to make this from start to finish and how much did it cost all together thanks.
These generally take about a day to build, after glue-ups.
Hello, I want to make my own. Is there a way i can figure the price beforehand? Also, is there a list of things i need available?

beautiful work!
this is great, it's time to start getting ready for Halloween! Thank you for the video
It's great. How much is it?
Thank you. The large is $835 (naturescasket.com/Coffin.html). I'm currently working on one in the new shop.
They said I was frugal. I'll die frugal baby!
What are the angles you used
Here's a link to the build diagram: www.naturescasket.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/Large-Coffin-Build.pdf
Nice, got no plans on dying yet but I wanna make my own.
I will try build 1 for me.
I got bored and decided to make a coffin, so here we are.
Can you send me the plans
The link is down right now, but I'll have it back up on the Nature's Casket website by the end of the week.
How much does it weigh?
Each one's a little different due to the dry weight of the wood, but generally 90-120 pounds
Nicely done
Whats the angle. Of each. Corner on the top
Please go to NaturesCasket.com and shoot me an email. I can provide the build diagram.
I think I'll make one for myself.
How many hours did it take you?
These generally take about 5-7 hours.
what do you charge for this one
Depending on the size, about $1000-1300. We're only selling locally in Colorado.
Looks great. I just posted a build video making a coffin this week.
wow thank you
How much would it coast me to build one?
It's about $150-200 in materials (1x6 wood, wood glue, screws, clear finish, rope handles).
nice work
To die for
who's it for
+Gwen Rogers I can't remember where this one ended up, but it's likely in the ground now, slowly biodegrading.
