Steve, that must have been a tough commission. My sincere condolences to you and of course Stuarts family. All I can say is that the care and effort you have put into that is a fine tribute to your friend. Stuart couldn't have had a better skilled carpenter build his casket. Thank you for sharing, it is a very personal and touching video.
How precious to give your friend his final gift. Thsnk you making a positive difference in our world. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience. My heartfelt condolences. MK Australia
Props on managing not only to make this but to make a video whilst doing it. The emotion is evident. Stuart was lucky to have you as his friend. I remember it took me months to be able to get to the point where I could make a small casket for my 4 legged friend without breaking down. There's no way I could have coped with doing this so soon. Always regarded you as professional and even though this process probably broke your heart you still managed it. Nothing but respect for you Steve.
Such a beautiful casket. Obviously very difficult for you but also an honor to be asked and I suspect a bit of healing for you to help with your friend’s final wishes. My condolences to you and Stuarts family for your loss.
This must have been a tough build. Quite an honour, and very brave of you, Steve, to make a video out of it to share on TH-cam, thank you so much for sharing.
Thank you for sharing this. And sorry for your loss. In moments like these I tend to seek refuge in music. May I suggest Hannah James' 'The Carpenter'? It seems very fitting in a way. There are several videos of her performing the song on youtube.
Thanks for sharing Steve, not an easy thing to do for the first project of the New Year, hope in time it adds by way of a tribute, to your memories of your friend.
What a Great Tribute for Your Friend !! It must have been emotional, I was going to say hard, but that's the wrong word to describe the things You we're going through . The wood was so pretty, and I Love seeing the grain of the wood . You , My Dear Sir , are a Good Friend, and a Artist with Wood . I am sending My Condolences to You and His Family , from California. USA . Stay Safe, and May God Bless and Keep You, Safe in the Palms of His Hands !k ❤🙏🕊️
Very moving Steve, and an interesting build. Only in the UK/EU would you need the timber to be FSC certified before burning! And no disrespect to your friend, but I’m sure we’re all wondering what the emissions might be from the ‘resident’ of the casket on their final journey…
That's a good q, Peter. But I am told that emissions are "virtually zero" because of the very high temperature and the fact that the combustion products are burned a second time. I assume it's on the same principle as a Rocket Stove.
So sorry you've lost a good friend, Steve. You've made a lovely job of his casket. My query is, why did you complicate the design by adding a few degrees of taper, as opposed to making a square box?
Sorry for the loss of a friend even though this is on September the 8th 2022, this is a testament that with the help of technology it will live on forever.
I'm big, tall, and fat. 6'3" @ 300lbs. I don't want to stress out those who may be around with the possibility that it might fall apart. (As for me, I'd be happy having my dead corpse being thrown in the dump.) How could I make a coffin for myself so that I know it would be strong enough to hold me and not fall apart? I'm not planning on exiting anytime soon - but you never know. Time to get on this project.
According to Google Translate, the comment above reads: That drawer gives me a bad feeling, since he speaks a different language, I better not see. TBH, I don't really understand.
In this video he was giving a gift of love for a friend and he was feeling some strong feelings that were difficult to cope with. He was exemplary of the highest character that men can have. With respect, Russel, please give him a pass. If he should make a mistake, which I did not see, it should be overlooked in view of the bigger picture. Good job, Steve.

That's a tough project, but a great honor to be able to prepare a friend's final resting place.

You are truly a "cut" above Steve and also a very kind person. May Jesus rest your friend's soul. And comfort you because of your loss.

Labour of love for your friend. Nicely presented & made

We did this for my father. It was very meaningful. Beautiful job.

Beautiful job Steve.
Sorry to hear about your loss :(.
I built a casket for my brother, along with his friends and family involved. It was a very therapeutic experience and an honour 💙

What a friend you have been!

LOL! Seemed like a good idea at the time? I like the aesthetics of it, I just didn't appreciate the extra work when I set out.
What a privilege. My condolences.
A great sentiment.

I want to make a Coffin Coffee Table for that special day but use it until that special day
I'm curious, when you made your corners did you do 43-43 and 47-47 or 45-41 and 45-49?
Neither. They are rebates, not mitres.
Thats a fine casket.

can you use plywood or osb ?
You would have to ask your local authority, I guess it would depend on the emissions.
I want to make 1 for myself, that has a strange sound to the comment my own coffin. Thank you Sir
God bless you
Can one have apprenticeship program with you
That is a very kind comment, thank you.
Ese cajón me da mala espina, como habla lengua diferente, mejor no veo.

I'm going to use it for moving me to go to The taxidermist shop so my wife can have me around for ever
EW is this a coffin 😂😂😂😂😂
No, it's a casket.
You talk too much, you can make your point in a shorter amount of time....
It's my style. If you don't like it, move on. Watching is not compulsory and you are not paying me.
