    The small plastic sleeves are to place on the keeper end of the valve. They slide over the keeper grooves to prevent damage to the seal when sliding the valve back through.

    • @gabels540
      @gabels540 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Rojasher25 so do you put the sleeve on the valve and push it through the seal when the seal is on the head already?

    You can adjust the valve spring compressors by bending the inner part that makes contact with the crown keeper. I used a hammer to bend the (first valve spring compressor shown) so that it was closer together. I was able to compress on my EJ22 exhaust side with it, but not the intake side as it was too wide for it. But I am watching this to see if I did it right. lol. But that was to see how to install the new ones. I just used my thumb, and seems tight, but I have had anxieties like this before.

    Happens alot, I'll had a socket that I was just using about 10 seconds within use and no where to be found. after couple hours of searching, ended up going to the store to buy new one. Later I found it was in my back pocket lol.

    you could have got some valve grinding compound and before you put in the new seals put some grinding paste on the seat of the valve and then used a medium speed drill and lapped a seat on to the valve and it's seating surface on the head that's what the turning the valve stem was all about you had seen I think. that would be a valve job then just hope your rings are good enough and not burnt any more oil maybe. you do have to clean off the grinding compound and then can inspect the seat on the head and valve both. I thing this is very necessary when putting in a new valve Unless you took it to a machine shop no problem its all done for you but cost good luck and thanks for sharing

      BluDog35 thanks. New engine builder here. Never done A Subaru motor, have one coming up on 250k miles on original motor and was considering doing it. Making sure there wasn't a difference between other vehicles and a Subaru when it comes to installing the valves. Really appreciate it!

      Just build it like any other engine. It works the same. Just put together differently really. Follow all the manual says and don't do what I do. These videos I make are NOT how-to step by step videos unless it is stated.

    That’s a perfect way to lose a finger! You need the right tool for the Subaru valves. I would have modified that tool to fit right even if I don’t get to return it, rather than risking for a nasty injury.

    What happens when one of these seals go bad??

    • @BluDog35
      @BluDog35  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It really depends but it usually starts with blue smoke out of the exhaust. Which Is oil making it past the failed seal and burning in the combustion chamber.

    You ramble on and on about things that someone who is talented enough to take off the cylinder heads of their vehicle are educated enough on how to use a tool by viewing you do it.

    Can't you just use a socket like on all other valve springs

    • @BluDog35
      @BluDog35  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure you could to take the valves out. But you would use a hammer to compress the spring and knock the keepers out. Think about putting them back in. Using this tool on these heads makes it a whole lot easier.

    • @coryshaw5693
      @coryshaw5693 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I just took all mine out with a socket in hammer in about 2 maybe 3 minutes first Subaru head I've ever done I could see using the tool to put on but I just figured instead of spending all day taking them out with the tool just so you can say "I used the tool"

    • @BluDog35
      @BluDog35  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's just the proper way to do it. Plus you risk damaging the mating surface of the head or something else using the hammer. These heads are aluminum. Soft metal. What's wrong with slowing down and getting it done right?

    • @coryshaw5693
      @coryshaw5693 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1
