That was home for me in the 70s Lots of changes but I can see in this video that a lot is still the same. I spent a night guarding the nose cone of an SR71 on those freight docks.
Use to be stationed at travis, and worked out of the 60th and electric shop. 78 thru 87. Was an art technician also. Loved the work and rode the launch truck a lot, miss it!!
Yes thanks! This bird is special. Sad to see her go. Once a month.. she roared ( engines screamed ) hello I'm back. As she approached Pittsburgh International. Out of WV. She had a voice!:-)
It was always so much fun to get my yearly spousal flight! I miss the unique sound, too of the C5A & B cuz when I heard them, I’d run outside and wave goodbye to my husband the loadmaster who upgraded to a flight engineer. Travis AFB was a busy place. So much fun to drive back and pick up daddy with his two daughters after his flights around the world.
The Super Galaxy have to be great considering how long the C-5's have been flying. I use to work in the APS when on active duty and worked on many C-5's along the way.
I assume that as it is an aircraft for combat zones, performance and payload trump concerns around sound absorption materials and associated weight? Better to just give everyone a flight headset?
Raymond Thomas Not as much spent on insulation. The passenger compartment is a bit chilly too. Save the weight of insulation and you gain cargo capacity.
Julie AV It all makes sense, I'm just surprised as surely the pilots need to be comfortable both in noise and other aspects to be sharp on the long journeys they take part in. But I get it. Thanks for reply.
I. The 70’s I would park and watch them do touch and go’s at fort dix nj that was the best to watch that big bird gracefully touch and power back up After 911 can’t do that any more. That’s one mighty aircraft. Thanks to all job well done
I would give my right tit to see one of these close up. Unfortunately, I live far from any place that has aircraft. Submarines aren't a problem and HMS Astute managed to ground herself near my home. But, I'd love to see some properly massive aircraft! Thanks for sharing your videos.
Royal Air Force Plane from India to Diego Garcia Airport will land before 31 12 2040 by Md. Ziaul Hoque, Munzereen Shahid, Captain Thomas Cook, His Flight Director Israeli female. Hail Her Magestry The Queen 👑 Of The Universe Only. Md. Ziaul Hoque
If the Antonov was better there would be hundreds of them flying throughout the world...sadly there's probable less than 10 that are actually in use. The C5 is unmatched in all categories.
I had heard that due to decreased funds for the Military during the Obama Administration, this aircraft was mothballed. Now I've heard with president Trump as Commander in Chief; this C5 will have new life and a new rolls to play in our DoD. I've not seen anything in the news and only one brief video that it may return. Does anyone know the true story of the C5 in 2017 and beyond; if and when this could happen. This being true and the Gerald Ford Aircraft Carrier taking to sea for a real mission; would make my day. Thank you. Trump/Pence 2020
Rickey Williams There was never a plan to mothball this fleet. It’s the single heavy hauler that the military has with no replacement. The C-17s can’t lift the heavy loads required (ie M1A1). If this aircraft is ever replaced it will be be for a next gen heavy aircraft.
Yup more Trump BS cant escape it! Funny for a jerk who never served and actually dodged the draft on the military nut$ like that!!! Oh and this was my Airplane in the Air Force 24 years! Trump did nothing for us!

Thanks for the ride (Space A) May 2017 , Yokota-Travis! Great aircraft and crew! Love the upgrades! My fist C5 ride was in 1989.....Quieter jets on M!
Was stationed at Travis from 84 to 96. Have over 5000hrs. Miss it!
Flew on board twice. Once from Incirlik AFB back home. Loud, cold, you need a blanket and earplugs. MRE meal. Still my favorite aircraft ever!
Great video, thanks for sharing what is involved in a days work.
Use to be stationed at travis, and worked out of the 60th and electric shop. 78 thru 87. Was an art technician also. Loved the work and rode the launch truck a lot, miss it!!
I built the C5B Thrust Reversors, Engine Nacelles and Fairings but never got to see them in action....could watch this all day!
Miss the uniquely, powerful, winding sound of those TF-39s :(
That sound! I can recognize it anywhere. I grew up on AF cargo bases and these planes always created awe, they are huge.
Wait, what...no ringy screamy TF-39's?
And then...depression set in.
Dover Afb moves more freight than those folks
Yes thanks! This bird is special. Sad to see her go. Once a month.. she roared ( engines screamed ) hello I'm back. As she approached Pittsburgh International. Out of WV. She had a voice!:-)
Hey thanks S. Sgt. Ayres, what are the white markings on the nose and above the cockpit for, are they painted on) I love the Galaxy!!(NZ)
Those are to direct the boom operator during aerial refueling.
Miss my C141 NorTon AFB
McChord for me
Very beautiful airplane the C-5 super Galaxy
With good filming skills you really don't need commentary do you. A lovely watch. Thanks.
Beautiful aircraft; beautiful videography.
very good and interesting.
So refreshing to have good content without a commentary once in a while
The C-5M doesn't have that unique sound anymore :( New engines may be more powerful and have less noise but...I just love that unique sound.
Yeah, the TF39 engine was replaced some years ago.
Yeah I totally agree with you it’s a shame I never saw or heard one in person with the old engines and now it’s to late

Lisa Vogel That sounded fun
Try living near SAC bases, it's still constant, though loveable
The C-5M FTW! :D
Glad to see that the M models, after 50 years, are flying. The early '70s, the A models, not so much.
The Super Galaxy have to be great considering how long the C-5's have been flying. I use to work in the APS when on active duty and worked on many C-5's along the way.
Chapeau à lockheed Martin qui conçu cet bel appareil vraiment Chapeau
Great video, can some explain why it's so loud in the cockpit? Seems excessive.
I assume that as it is an aircraft for combat zones, performance and payload trump concerns around sound absorption materials and associated weight? Better to just give everyone a flight headset?
*****
Cockpits on airbus and boeing don’t require over the ear
headsets. Which means it isn’t as loud
as it is on Air Force aircraft.
Big plane, big noise

Great footage !
Love Travis. Love C5's. Monsters.
Very cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for sharing
amazing!
How do i get me one of those
Join the air Force you can fly in one , don't know how anyone in the civilian world can buy one lol would be super fun tho
Thank you for the great amazing video i luv it.
Great job!
WAY quieter than the old models. Great improvement.
Looks like the ground marshall now gets to stand lateral to the cockpit and not get blinded by the landing lights, allways a sore spot for me.
What is the max altitude of this aircraft?
I. The 70’s I would park and watch them do touch and go’s at fort dix nj that was the best to watch that big bird gracefully touch and power back up After 911 can’t do that any more. That’s one mighty aircraft. Thanks to all job well done
But...but...where is the familiar C-5 howling at takeoff? This just sounds like a typical 747/A380...
When i play clip then auto restart?!!!
Хорошее видео...
amazing C5 . the best .
Fly on Big Mama!
Holds the most records in the world
4:55 WHAT A FUNNY VEHICLE JAJAJ
I want one of these for my 15th birthday, and then, I will be happy.
very good
I use to pound pavement out there with the 60th. I would be lying if I said that I didn’t miss it.
Most of the crewchiefs/ARTs guys in the video are still around there.
I did too! CC 60th 945th then FE 301st then 312th!!
Thats one big mana jama whatevee that means...
wow.....smh....thats a beast
This is Lockheed C-5M Galaxy (The best airplane freight on the world.)
what a huge plane!
If you buy one you can make a flying yacht lol.
The only reason a C-5 has wings is to have a place to attach the engines
Travis
Great video... But OMG what a hella long a*# day!

Signals jaam auto stop
Caution: Ear rape at 12:58
The An-225 is not a Russian plane, it is a Ukrainian plane.
USA!
Tgt
Auto mobile shut down.
Just think all of that was put together by the lowest bidder.

Nice but Ан-225 is best

Adaryl Twillie There's actually just 1 AN-225! And there's the AN-124, 55 were build. Of the C-5 131 were build.
Fair enough! Still begs to wonder why some people thing the Antonov is better than the C5 when virtually nobody uses it.
