    A C-5M Super Galaxy aircrew from Travis Air Force Base claimed 45 aeronautical records in one flight, positioning the U.S. military’s largest airframe as the world’s top aviation record holder with a total of 86 world records. The flight from Travis AFB established standards in 45 previously unset categories. The aircrew achieved records in the Class C-1.T jet category for altitude in horizontal flight, altitude with payload, time-to-climb, time-to-climb with payload and greatest payload to 9,000 meters. The C-5M currently now holds 86 world records, surpassing both the Russian An-225 (73 records) and the United States Air Force B-1B Lancer

    That was home for me in the 70s Lots of changes but I can see in this video that a lot is still the same. I spent a night guarding the nose cone of an SR71 on those freight docks.

    Flew on board twice. Once from Incirlik AFB back home. Loud, cold, you need a blanket and earplugs. MRE meal. Still my favorite aircraft ever!

    Thanks for the ride (Space A) May 2017 , Yokota-Travis! Great aircraft and crew! Love the upgrades! My fist C5 ride was in 1989.....Quieter jets on M!

    Yes thanks! This bird is special. Sad to see her go. Once a month.. she roared ( engines screamed ) hello I'm back. As she approached Pittsburgh International. Out of WV. She had a voice!:-)

    The Super Galaxy have to be great considering how long the C-5's have been flying. I use to work in the APS when on active duty and worked on many C-5's along the way.

      It was always so much fun to get my yearly spousal flight! I miss the unique sound, too of the C5A & B cuz when I heard them, I’d run outside and wave goodbye to my husband the loadmaster who upgraded to a flight engineer. Travis AFB was a busy place. So much fun to drive back and pick up daddy with his two daughters after his flights around the world.

    • @scottoma
      @scottoma 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I assume that as it is an aircraft for combat zones, performance and payload trump concerns around sound absorption materials and associated weight? Better to just give everyone a flight headset?

    • @soccerguy2433
      @soccerguy2433 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      *****
      Cockpits on airbus and boeing don’t require over the ear
      headsets. Which means it isn’t as loud
      as it is on Air Force aircraft.

      Raymond Thomas Not as much spent on insulation. The passenger compartment is a bit chilly too. Save the weight of insulation and you gain cargo capacity.

    • @raymondthomas1422
      @raymondthomas1422 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Julie AV It all makes sense, I'm just surprised as surely the pilots need to be comfortable both in noise and other aspects to be sharp on the long journeys they take part in. But I get it.

    I had heard that due to decreased funds for the Military during the Obama Administration, this aircraft was mothballed. Now I've heard with president Trump as Commander in Chief; this C5 will have new life and a new rolls to play in our DoD. I've not seen anything in the news and only one brief video that it may return. Does anyone know the true story of the C5 in 2017 and beyond; if and when this could happen. This being true and the Gerald Ford Aircraft Carrier taking to sea for a real mission; would make my day. Thank you. Trump/Pence 2020

    • @AJ-bh2od
      @AJ-bh2od 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rickey Williams There was never a plan to mothball this fleet. It’s the single heavy hauler that the military has with no replacement. The C-17s can’t lift the heavy loads required (ie M1A1). If this aircraft is ever replaced it will be be for a next gen heavy aircraft.
