@@Scaletrains Yes I want to thank you as well for doing these in N-scale for NS, you know how many years NS N-scaler's had to fudge their Dash-9's. Coupled up to my NS Tier-4 Gevos (like in your video) I will now have a prototypically correct NS lash-up. Thanks Scaletrains ( You Rock)
Expectations exceeded as usual! I had to grab an in-stock NS unit and pre-ordered a second road number. I cant wait to see whats next! That was cool to see it running on NSmodeler24's layout.
Gotcha, thanks for the response. I just checked out the video Keith’s Trains put out showing the BNSF version, and unfortunately it sounds like ESU used their existing mechanical bell file from a Dash 8 (incorrect, the Dash 9 and newer actually used a substantially different and very unique sounding bell that I was looking forward to finally having in a sound decoder). Hopefully this can be fixed at some point. The MTH Dash 9 actually does have this bell included with the (otherwise far inferior) Proto-Sound 3.0 equipped version.
@@amtrak706 Conveniently, they are using a V5.0 board rather than the Select board, so if I'm not mistaken, we should be able to program in custom individual sounds with a LokProgrammer.
True, but for almost $300 we should have the right bell already in there from the factory. And it is a bit of a pain to source an audio clip of the right bell, edit it to loop, and then insert it into the sound project.
Amtrak706 for sure. I’ve felt the same way about the air-to-air intercooler sounds on their GEVO files (which seems nit picky, but you hear it on every T2/T3 GEVO) as well as the lack of a good GE dynamic brake. Honestly, before the Tsunami 2, the Proto-Sound 7FDL-16 notching up was the best approximation of those dynamic brakes because it sounds like they recorded a Dash 9 that was loading it’s DB fans.
Joe: in our Rivet Counter N scale line, we offer printed & lighted LED number boards and lighted ditch lights (NS flash both front and rear). The technology to bring lighted walkway lights to N Scale would increase the cost which we don't think the N Scale market is ready to pay yet. Shane

First run, they probably did the biggest users of the Dash 9's first and the ones that would definitely sell well, I would say they will do more railroads on the second run especially once they see demands for the units. You should get on their Facebook and request SP so they know which Railroads people are interested in helps you and them when it comes to what will be released in later runs. I'm still waiting on them to do a NS SD40-2 high hood and I've been told by someone at Scaletrains it was on the short list of future possible releases at some point down the road! E Deptula not everyone has tiny layouts too some people like this and some people don’t I love this I model modern Ns so it’s perfect. You may have to count on another company for ALCO or Geeps
Central Ohio Trains well sure I agree but these companies could maybe bring some stuff out that will attract us older and many decade modelers. Seeing the same stuff released and rereleased gets old. NS also is the only company that ever had a spartan cab dash 9. Would be nice to maybe see that produced as long as they are doing the 9. They need to get more creative. Especially when the manufacturers are getting to the point where they all make the same thing. We need variety.
E Deptula: we're the first company to offer HO & N "Big Blow" Turbine; HO & N C39-8s; N Tier 4s; HO Trinity 31K Tank Cars with Head Shields; HO & N Thrall 4727 Carbon Black Hoppers; HO & N 5750 Thrall Carbon Black Hoppers; HO & N Gunderson 5188 Covered Hoppers; HO GATC 4566 Airslide Covered Hoppers; HO & N PS-4785 Covered Hoppers; HO BSC F68AH Flat Car; HO & N 53' CIMC Dry Containers; and HO & N CIMC 53' Reefer Containers. That's 20 different models no one else offered previously - all in less than 3 1/2 years. As for the HO SD40-2, SD40T-2 and DASH-9, no other version on the market today comes close the railroad and road number specific detail, separately applied parts, lighting effects, pulling power, and sound to our models. During the first two days of sales/preorders. the DASH-9 is more than double anything we've announced previously. The sales from locomotives likes this helps fund unique project like the C39-8. If we were to only produce models that have never been offered previously, we not generate enough profit to pay our employees, bills, suppliers, etc. and invest in future projects. Shane
ScaleTrains.com sorry but the Big Blow was offered in HO scale years ago in Brass Model. Maybe the first in some things but not that. Sure would be nice to see companies bring out more four axle power. Not sure what morning I woke to see nothing but six axles for every single release.
Well once again Shane, nothing I can use nor want. I know I don't count as I am a minority modeler. All the millennial modelers can rejoice since they can get another toaster on wheels. BNSF hinges are different than every other hinge? One more thing, all these detail parts don't interest me since they can fall off during an operating session!
Rick La Fever you nailed it right on the head. It seems to be the millennials that the manufacturers always bow to. The now generation equipment is getting old and deterring me from this hobby.
What locomotive are y'all wanting to see then? The dash 9 has been around for 25 years so I wouldn't quite group it in with what is being manufactured "now" on the prototypes.
Operating locomotives don't need all these details that you can't see when running. However someone wanted to know what I want. So here is what I want. ALCO 415's, SD-9's, GP30's. Some earlier GE's. 1955-1971 era. I'm just a dinosaur, soon to be extinct!
Rick La Fever exactly!!!!! The dash 9 may be a 25 yr old engine but they have been produced as a model since. When was a GP30 last ever made? Or any Alcos? Or here’s a six axle that would be awesome on small layouts, SDL39.
Rick La Fever so very true. Layouts that have operating sessions don’t need all these plastic details that have a high chance for getting broke. Not to mention, the two scaletrains engine I’ve bought always had parts that fell off the loco in the box before I got to even touch it. If you want all these “prototype looking engines” to be only displayed not ran then yes it makes sense. If you have a operational multi person layout then it’s a bit overboard with the breakable details. Now, I will give scaletrains credit for one thing, the Operator Line. Thumbs up for that. But bring out more variety besides these ugly Millennial Toyota Prius locomotives. They all look the same with absolutely no character whatsoever. Believe it or not there’s more to trains than just the last 25 years.

If you prefer railroad and road number specific features, then our Rivet Counter line is for you. We will offer CNW in Rivet Counter on a future run. Shane
really too beautiful but will there be CN and BC RAIL one day?
We plan to offer Canadian DASH-9s on a future production run. Shane
@@Scaletrains this is really nice :) thanks
Are you guys gonna do the UP 844
ussjohnston1: are you referring to the Union Pacific FEF steam locomotive? If so, we have not plans. Shane
ScaleTrains.com yes I am referring too FEF 844, and thanks for the information, I hope to see some rivet counter steam locomotives for you guys, I’m currently debating on what loco to buy from y’all now
Very nice!
Awesome, hopefully I can get my hands on an N-scale version!
We're still accepting preorders. We'd encourage you to place a preorder if you have not already. Payment is not due until the models arrive. Shane
I am so getting some of these for my model train collection. They are superb for detail and the price is reasonable as well when compared to other makes that are near to £200 for a non sound example. These examples are the best I have seen and should be entered into the "Best Railroad Model of The Year 2019" award in my opinion.
I have subscribed and I will look forward to seeing more great model train from you guys in the future. If I may add a wish for a future locomotive. Could we have a Siemens "Charger" locomotive model that now works the Amtrak Surfliner trains in the future if possible please?
All the best.
Thank you for recognizing our efforts to produce the best models possible at an affordable price. Bachmann recently announced the Siemens Charger and the Amtrak Surfliner passenger cars are on our list of potential new projects. Shane
Just got ordered from me!!!
Hey, they even showed a real locomotive at 14:40 in the video! Ha Ha Ha.😁
These are absolutely astonishing! Will these be produced in N Scale near future?
Christian: your wish is our command. Here's a link to the two versions of N Scale DASH-9s. Shane
www.scaletrains.com/pages/n-scale-ge-dash-9-44cw-diesel-locomotive
Nice details I'm hoping to get mind real soon
What does a real dash 9 cost?
At the time about 1.5million
Athearn Genesis: Finally! A worthy opponent!
An nstallment of an ACC4400 is next?
Joseph: an AC4400CW would be a natural next step after shipping a few production runs of DASH-9s. Shane
can you do AC4400CW,s
Aidan CP Rail: the AC4400CW would be a natural extension of the DASH-9 project after we ship several production runs. We'll see what the future holds. Shane
Nice stuff.
Been a fan since y'all were at the Orlando show 2 yrs ago
Thanks for being a fan. We appreciate your support. Shane
Next we need a GP38-2. Ether other brands suck, dont have modern paint schemes, or both. Some are too expensive.
We have no plans to offer a GP38-2. Athearn already has a well-done model in their Genesis line. Shane
That maybe but I haven’t bought a GP38-2 from athearn genesis and probably won’t with your quality and attention to detail
Thanks for your vote of confidence in our ability to deliver top shelf models. Maybe someday... Shane
@@Scaletrains the GP40-2 from athearn genesis always is way to overpriced, and ships broken quite often.
Should've done the AC4400,more roads have them.So now we have an updated chip, probably won't run with the others and have to speed match everything now.
Hey Tom, from personal experience, the v5.0 runs perfectly with the previous v4.0 decoders, both in terms of notching (sound) and motor control!
@@nsmodeler24 Glad to hear makes things easier when you can run them instead of messing with the CV's.
Tom: the AC4400CW shares a-lot of commonality to the DASH-9 so offering one in the future is a strong possibility. Shane
omg! yes!
Mmmm I was holding out for the Intermountain dash-9s this spring but I’ll have to bite. Take my money please
Please produce a Southern Pacific TE-70 dcc
Unfortunately an SP TE-70 is unlikely due its uniqueness. This project would be too financially risky. Shane
Nice!
So I bought both.
Almost every runby of the BNSF was with the T4 leading. Product spotlight much?
still, the tier 4 gevo was made by them
D. Scott: the BNSF DASH-9 in the video is non-powered "proof of concept" model. Since it does not have a motor or electronics, it could not lead. Shane
About time!!!!! Being sarcastic! Lol! Yeahhhhhh!!! Wooohooo!!!
We appreciate you recognizing the 3+ years of work to bring this locomotive to market. What would you like to see us offer?
In the Dash9? Everything BNSF rivet counter. CNW, NS original as delivered, SP, CN, BCOL. Seen them all on BNSF here. So I need them all!
Plz do cn wide cabs and bc rail blues plz o plz
Greg: these are in our future plans. Shane
Me again.....WOW!
No SP!? Wtf scaletrains!!! I'll be getting some tunnel motors but not any of these (yet)
I guess your comment on this video will work too as I'm sure they look through them as well
@@WorldOfNothin I hope so!! I also want about a dozen ac4400 in SP.
We want to recover our tooling investment on the "Tunnel Motors" and allow modelers wallet's to recover too before offering SP DASH-9s. Don't worry, they'll be on a future production run. Shane
@@Scaletrains sounds good to me are you going to be doing any fantasies schemes like SP and daylight or maybe Rio Grande?
We have no plans to offer fantasy paint schemes in the Rivet Counter brand. Shane
No lights flashing glad that vintage pickup did not get hit.
What???
A CNW dash 9 with high number boards and high Ditch lights? At this price, in the rivet counter line? Really?
PNWR1854: the CNW we're offering is in our Operator line.
All Operator series models are "one size fits all". This means they have the same cab, long hood, and walkway. Because different roadnames share identical parts and assembly (except for decoration), the production run quantity is higher which lowers the unit cost. so we pass this savings along to our customers.
For the DASH-9, this yields a $99.99 selling price for DC/DCC ready and $149.99 with DCC & sound.
If you prefer railroad and road number specific features, then our Rivet Counter line is for you. We will offer CNW in Rivet Counter on a future run. Shane
ScaleTrains.com: thanks for your response, I see now
Wow like we needed another dash 9. Cool model though! Sure it will please all MODERN modelers
Isn't that the way, Eagles Nest. The companies keep copying each other!
There’s always one
@@natestrains1166 and not accurate
@@maxim430 yes
Eagles Nest: we truly appreciate you recognizing the effort that goes into offer an all-new locomotive even though it does not fit your modeling interests. Shane
Although these locomotives look amazing, I prefer MTH's Dash 9 because how affordable it is. $330 for a single locomotive is too much for me
These can be had for $265 with DCC/Sound. Not sure how or why you would pay full retail for them.
As SouthernPacific Patch mentioned, our actual selling price is $265 for the Rivet Counter version. If you're looking for a value priced version, check out our Operator line. The DCC & sound equipped version is just $149.99. Shane

Take all of my money. Please.
Nsmodeler24’s layout
Thank you so very much for sharing your videos of the Dash 9s. I have a BNSF dash 9 too. Keep up the good work. Check out my review of the BNSF dash 9! Thank you.
Great another wide can release 👎 sure would be nice to see some geeps or alcos produced. Not everyone has a full basement layout to run these.
Doing awesome Scaletrains! I’ve bought models I never thought I would. Example BNSF ET44C4.
ALCO 415's,
SD-9's, GP30's.
So I bought both.
