Bless ya. Hold the soldering Iron on the part your soldering between the hole and pin then bring the solder to the pin. All the best mate DE 2E0LIG Nathan
Should really be soldered so the plastic spacer is between the mmdvm board and the screen. Also, for people wanting to do this, watch out some screens have the +ve and GND swapped. You need to get the right oled screen. Also for good driver support get one with the SSD1306 controller on it.
Hi Andreas, just completed this mod on my hotspot, should have read the comments before I ordered the OLED as the first one I got the GND and VCC were swapped, managed to pick one up on line and soldered it on today. Works a treat, thanks for showing us how to do it and set it up correctly. 73.
@@HamTechRadioScannerDrones Hi Andreas, I did try and solder it all together with extension wires, it did work but once done, it would not fit in the case and looked a bit of a mess, for the sake of £3.99 online, I now have a much neater looking solution that works. 73.
Adding my 2 cents. Mate, ya need a clean tip. That tip is so dirty you need to scrub that clean with Flux and Brillo until the solder sticks on the tip. Then it will work proper.
Question. After oled is installed and mmdvm mounted on the rpi Those pins that hangs below the hat that is connected to the oled. Are those supposed to touch the gpio header on the pi. I have installed a full 40 pin header on my rpizero2 w
Dude, my OLED 3 on my dual band hat with a Pi 5 worked for a few hours but now is not even showing any text or signs of life. Any clue? It may have happened after I ran an update but can't say for sure. Thank you.
i just got my pi star hotspot and the display Only comes on when I tx or rx a transmission or when i log into a tg. is there a setting in pi star to have it always on display, not just when i log into a tg or tx/rx transmission? thanks
Thanks Andy yet another great video. Thinking of getting this type of hot spot. I take it that you can use a yaesu ft3d with them or if anyone else knows? 73 Alan G0SMD

Hi Nigel thanks very much I guess the wrong one can be used if you add extension wires .73

Thank you Andreas, I was about to give up and buy a new pi hat. I had missed selecting the OLED display type. All working OK now.

Hi no
@@HamTechRadioScannerDrones
Last question. Would you recommend using flash cutters to trim the pins? Thank you for the response and the vidios
The black header should go on top not on the bottom as the black bar creates a gap between the boards.
Yes agree was fun tho
